Picture is good but mine has what I’m assuming is a defect. The top middle of the screen has a big “light” bar that shows when there are dark scenes. It also doesn’t do well with light reflection

The picture quality is excellent, as I expected from a Samsung. The sound is only fair-to-poor. The automatic brightness is set too low and I have yet too find a control that allows me to increase the brightness. The remote is compact and works as intended. It has some feature whose purpose is unclear, even in the user manual. There are several other "superfluous" features that are available, that I didn't know that I needed. These features and controls are in the way of the user who only wants explicit control of the basis screen controls.

      Doug,

Thank you for purchasing Samsung's Q80A and for sharing your thoughts on the image quality. To ensure that your TV’s picture is optimized, be sure that you are always running the latest firmware update. You can check this by going to Settings > Support > Software Update or you can enable Auto Update for convenience.

If the default brightness setting is not to your liking, you can customize the brightness level between 0 – 50 to your preference. Go to Home > Settings > Picture > Expert Settings > Brightness.

You can also try different Picture Modes to see which best fits your needs. Go to Home > Settings > Picture > Picture Mode for the below choices:
      1) Standard: Is the default mode suitable for general viewing environments.
      2) Natural: Reduces eye strain for a comfortable viewing experience.
      3) Movie: Is suitable for watching TV or movies in a dark room.
      4) Dynamic: Makes the picture brighter and clearer in bright viewing environments.
      5) Filmmaker Mode: You can watch the source content (e.g., movie) as it is. If the image is defined as Filmmaker Mode, it will automatically switch to Filmmaker Mode while watching.

Intelligent Mode also enables the TV to recognize and analyze the surroundings, noise, content, and your usage patterns to provide the best viewing experience. You can enable Intelligent Mode by going to Home > Settings > General > Intelligent Mode Settings. Adaptive Picture, which is among the options, optimizes brightness and provides the best picture quality in real time, based on the lighting condition and the content you're viewing.

To further assist you in learning various features, functions and settings, please know you can download the Q80A TV's User Manual, e-Manual, Remote Control Leaflet, and Quick Setup Guide on Samsung's website by clicking "Support" > "Manuals & Software" > "TVs & Home Theater". From there, you can select the Q80A under "QLED 4K TVs” > "A Model Lineup". Additionally, you can find other guides and manuals to further assist you with your TV’s features.

I hope these tips help. If you would like further assistance with settings, features, or functions, please reach out to Samsung Customer Support at 1-800-SAMSUNG (ask for TVs), available 8AM - 12AM EST, 7 days a week.

Decent tv for people who want to watch cable. Its a great looking tv but it has the most annoying built in "Samsung Tv Plus" that will automatically start playing their channels if you leave the tv alone for a small certain amount of time. Or if you have a Xbox/Playstation and turn it off, the tv will again automatically play their tv service. And there is no way to disable it. They also have ads just on the main screen which is annoying. Again, it's a good tv otherwise for people who don't mind this but it would be nice if it said it anywhere before I bought it. The tv also would not turn on after 24 hours. We woke up the next morning and it just wouldn't turn on so I assume there was just a fault with the one I bought. Exchanged it for a LG CX OLED and it's much better for people who just want a normal tv that doesn't force you to use their programs.

      Hello Someone,

Thank you for your review of Samsung's Q80A TV. Please this TV allows you to choose what it does when you turn it on. It sounds like you simply needed to adjust your TV's Autorun Smart Features, which would have allowed you to display the Home Screen, or automatically run the last app used when you turn on your TV.

We were looking for a tv with antiglare properties. I read this one had that. Went and saw one on display at besy buy and it looked to have a lot less glare than the other tvs. So we bought it. After getting it all setup we feel like we were duped. The glare is pretty bad on this tv still. Reflections dont look the same at home as they did in the store. I understand how store displays work and i looked at this screen from every angle and made sure i looked for store lights in the reflection. The reflections looked muffled and blurred which was great. The tv i got at home i can see reflections clear as a mirror so it defeats the purpose of why i bought this tv. On the flip side the sound on this tv is great. Best sound on a stock tv that i have heard. Don't need a soundbar with this one.

The tv is really nice for our bright room. Vivid colors and nice picture quality. But it SUCKS for watching live sports. I specifically asked the sales guy if it would be a good tv for live sports after he was selling me on the gaming quality for it (which I didn’t care about) and he said “Oh yeah! Really good!” It’s skippy and not smooth at all. But it’s only that way for live sports. We got it right before Super Bowl and needless to say we piled around my old vizio in the basement because everyone got tired of the bad picture quality….. but my kids cartoons are legit, so…

The TV was great if it wasn't misrepresented on the website. Best buy's website said it was open box excellent. Showed up didn't have a remote didn't have the stand. Got the TV home wouldn't connect to Wi-Fi Bluetooth wouldn't work it was a complete mess. Had to drive 30 miles to return the TV and get another one. The TV is hanging on the wall with a center channel speaker just below it. The set up is great, the picture is great as long as the picture is bright. If the action sequence is in side a warehouse or a nighttime scene and actors are wearing dark cloths you can not see what they are doing. Tried to adjust the contrast and brightness but to no avail. Total Tech not much help.

This TV is a disappointment. It was purchased due to high ratings for sound quality and this is the disappointment. It seems the “Object Tracking Sound” feature likes to adjust the volume making some speech inaudible when a scene is switched during a conversation. The speech volume goes way down while background noises are often not changed. I haven’t found a way to compensate for this problem or to turn off the object tracking sound.

      Lexa,

Thank you for purchasing the Q80A TV and for sharing the details of your issue with Wi-Fi connectivity. A network issue may be the cause. You may want to go through these steps to check your network connection:

      1) Make sure that no items that can generate electromagnetic interferences are placed between the TV and the wireless/wired access point.

      2) Check if the access point is turned on. If it is on, turn it off, wait 1 or 2 minutes, and then turn it on. Enter the correct password if required.

      3) If the wireless connection fails, connect the TV to the access point via a LAN cable. If the TV can connect to the Internet normally via the wired connection, there might be a problem with the access point. In this case, try using a different access point.

      4) Perform a network test to check if there is a network problem. Press the Home button on your remote. Navigate to Settings > Support > Device Care > Self Diagnosis> Smart Hub Connection Test

      5) Try a cold reboot of your TV by pressing and holding the power button for 5+ seconds until the TV turns off and on again.

      6) Please also be sure you have the latest firmware update. You may want to enable automatic updates for convenience. Select Settings > Support > Software Update, then select Auto Update.

For further assistance or service, please contact Samsung Customer Support at 1-800-SAMSUNG (ask for TVs), available 8AM - 12AM EST, 7 days a week.

This is a good TV. I made this purchase to replace a midlevel 2yr old Vizio. I wanted an upgrade, so I bought this one. Supposedly a step up from a midlevel TV. Other than some smart features, picture wise, there is not much of a difference. I went from an $800 TV to a $1400 TV and probably should have stayed with the Vizio.

Bought to watch NHL. Showed black banding while still under warranty. Repair was quick and great TV since. Seems like Samsung is an unnecessary premium. Because of initial issues, probably won’t buy Samsung again. Vizio, though I don’t like their smart TV interface, is a better value and I’ve never had issues with quality on those. Good TV. Remote takes a little to get use to. Like the big picture. Geek squad who set it up was great.

Looked great at first, but when it came to a dark scene, the entire top half of the screen was a white cloud. So bad it was barely watchable. I googled it, and it’s a known issue! I expect more from Samsung and Best Buy. Why sell a tv, no a cheap one either, when you know it has an inherent issue? Apparent this is a transition year for the tech, last years didn’t have the issue and next years won’t.. ver disappointing.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend
