The monitor has a beautiful display and works exactly as advertised very happy with the product

Very nice monitor, only issue I have is sometimes when I turn it on it has these vertical lines in the screen and you have to power it off and back on.

I do like this monitor but the screen started flickering intermittently. I put off returning too long and now have to reach out to Samsung because Best Buy can only replace it if it’s within two weeks of purchase unfortunately.

The Samsung Odyssey G5 is a solid gaming and productivity monitor featuring HDR, up to 165Hz refresh rates and G-Sync and FreeSync compatibility all in a very solid 2560x1440p resolution which is not only a sweet spot for midrange gaming cards, but also excellent for work and productivity. At initial glance, the G5 is a bright and attractive display with thin bezels and a matte screen finish. Samsung’s Odyssey lineup of PC monitors is very popular among gamers for all the features they pack into the display. I was a little disappointed however in some of the implementation on this monitor. 1. The HDR on this monitor changes the bit depth from 8-bit to 8-bit with dithering, meaning some of the colors are extrapolated due to bandwidth and signaling limitations. This largely negates the benefits of HDR as you’re going to get more washed out, less accurate colors and less crisp text and graphical edges. 2. G-Sync is only supported on the Display Port input, the HDMI port does not enable G-Sync. Not a huge deal, use this port for your work laptop, but something to be aware of. 3. The HDMI port drops refresh rate to 144Hz instead of the 165Hz on the DP input. Again not a huge deal just something to be aware of. The monitor does not have any USB inputs or the ability to connect to your PC for USB, it has one input but that appears to be for system service. Also, there are no speakers however you can pass audio over HDMI and plug in a set of headphones using 3.5mm mini Jack. Again this is a bit of a trade off since you lose G-Sync and drop refresh rate down to 144Hz over HDMI. Overall this is a solid gaming monitor and also a pretty great work monitor as well. Are there better gaming displays out there? Certainly but you will end up paying more too, so this monitor when on sale is a nice balance of performance and features.

Specification wise, this is a nice 1440p 165hz fast refresh 27” HDR monitor. It is clearly designed for gaming with multiple settings that help you fine tune what you are looking for. Plus, it has 3 buttons specifically for presets. For instance, you have one game where the aim dot can be set dead center and green is better for that setting, while another may be lower off center and you want a red dot with a deeper contrast. Instead of changing the settings individually each time you change things up, just push the button you saved it to. Best setup is with a PC over DisplayPort to get the highest refresh, but HDMI is still pretty decent and can be changed between HDMI 1.4 or 2.0. For some odd reason though, if the Freesync is ‘On’ in the settings, you can’t get HDR to work over HMDI, so be sure to turn that to ‘Off’ if you want 1440p 120hz HDR on your Xbox Series X for example. HDR is better than not having it, but looks a little dull compared to a TV. Something else that threw me off is that there is a volume option while using the joystick for settings. There looks to be a place for speakers, but come to find out those are just ventilation. The volume is for the 3.5mm headphone out jack that works with either DP or HDMI. Out of the box, there is a little bit of assembly required, just snapping the base in and attaching two plastic parts. There is plenty of leeway for position with the base to include 90 degree rotation, but only in one direction. Backlighting is from the edge and can be seen in dark scenes or when no input is available, but lighter than some monitors I have seen. There is practically no reflection from the screen but off angle viewing degrades pretty quickly. Overall I like this monitor. The black depth/contrast is something that I got spoiled with on my older OLED screen, but it didn’t have 165hz refresh, so there are compromises. I also feel it is a little bulky for what I have seen capable on laptops these days. If you have devices to take advantage of the higher resolution and refresh rate, it is worth having.

Zero stares if possible I bought an open box before I ordered the new monitor and the open box lasted longer than the brand new monitor I bought which was $30 more and it only lasted an hour before it started to flicker white like the open box monitor I returned , sadly I had to settle for a down grade asus which isn’t as good as the odyssey g5

This Monitor is Fantastic!! Samsung always has the best displays in the game. This Monitor supports HDR and you can enable in windows settings for more a immersive viewing experience with the ability to see way more. For gamers it has gsync built in a chip that also works with gaming laptops and pcs Nvidia Graphics card for the upmost best performance possible. Highly Recommend!!

This monitor shocked me, i first used it on ps5 before i got all of my specs for my computer and for 1440p monitor you can’t go wrong with this

This monitor really blew my mind when I first turned it on. I was playing on a 50 inch 4K no hdr this monitor by far was a huge monitor. It felt like I upgraded my ps5!!!! I have the ps5 beta 1440p so it is able to support 1440p 120fps hdr with amazing color.

I am really upset that I have to give up on this monitor. It has such a great picture when it comes to IPS monitors. The colors are great, and the contrast is decent. BUT, my first one would have the screen flicker completely white sometimes. I tried a different HDMI cable, different power outlet, and still had the same issue. Tried changing the settings, disabling Free Sync, etc. still unusable as my screen would turn completely white. So I ordered a replacement and sent back the first one. The second one has a similar issue, but slightly different. Now the screen will turn half black and half white for a few seconds in bursts. It will flicker back and forth between picture and half black and half white screen. It's so horrible. So I'll be returning this one and trying an LG monitor. If Samsung had better quality control, this would've been my top choice for 1440p 165hz IPS monitors. Buyer beware.
