XBOX One Friendly! Awesome external SSD.

If you have an xbox and are starting to run out of drive space or want certain games to load faster, this drive will work very well. Though most will use this as traditional storage, it will work with xbox and offers real speed benefits. 1. xBox can use this drive in 2 ways: 1) Media Storage 2) Games. If you want to use the drive for games, xbox will reformat the drive and you can have games installed to this drive vs. your internal drive. Can't use it for both games and media so you'll have to pick. When you plug in the drive, xbox will automatically see it and walk you through the setup. 2. Game load times are significantly improved for me. Im not talking a few seconds less, I am talking about much faster noticeable load times for games like Forza Horizon, Forza 7, etc. If you want specifics, you can find a comparison of this drive vs. the internal HDD on youtube. 3. You can plug the drive into another xbox and you'll be able to play your games! This applies to the newest xbox's, not 360. 4. xbox can manage up to 3 drives so you can always add storage above and beyond this SSD. In my situation, I wanted 2 TB but really didn't want to spend all that money upfront so I got the 1 and I will add another (likely cheaper by then) if/when I need it. 5. This drive comes with the correct cable to connect direct to xbox. The connection to the drive is USB-C and USB-A to your xbox. So far so good, my games load faster and I have more storage, I've moved most of my games to this drive and use the internal drive for media storage and games that are less demanding/smaller in size.

When i was at the store deciding if i should purchase this one or the WD product, I thought i needed to break ranks and buy one of the samsung ones for good measure. I can officially say I’m glad i did. As a truck driver and investor i need to be able to constantly access either my movies and tv shows when I’m on the road or the balance sheet data such as an 8-k or 10-k about the company I’m interested in or have purchases shares of. Pros: This thing is lightning fast. Considering i have a MacBook Pro 15in (2017) model and use USB-C i can transfer some serious data in record time. Now the biggest test i gave this thing was the transfer of 600GB worth of data from on hard drive to another. (The other WD is not an SSD) Now i will admit will it did take about an hour and a half it still exceeded my expectations. I have heard if you have USB 3.1 GEN2 this will transfer @540mb/s now since this MacBook has no USB i simply used the USB-C NO MOVING PARTS. So if you where to say accidentally drop this chances are it still going to work but still be careful. The size: The size of the SSD is almost the exact width of an iPhone 8+ and not even close to half the height so its smaller far more portable easily fitting into your pocket. Comes with a standard USB cable and USB-C cable so that’s a plus for anyone wishing to purchase this if the dont have a MAC Con: The price is still far beyond what one would expect. Personally this should be $149 not $249 I would like to also note that you would figure for the price of the product it would either have far more memory or or at least a transfer rate of 1 gb/s but as i said for what it is. This IS a very good SSD

A Plus for Laptop with Less Than 250 GB.

Today's new thin laptops not in the $800+ range highly likely have less than 250 GB, especially those with detachable keyboard or 10" tablet at 64GB max. This SSD is a real + as an external storage that you can carry in your pocket or in your bag by just throw it inside (of course with a sandwich bag at least) ; you need not to constantly being careful with it. It is sturdy with no moveable part inside that you have to worry about damaging it internally that can't be seen. It hook up with either device with 2.0 or 3.0. USB port. I am not a racer, so I don't really care about timing the speed with either 2.0 or 3.0; however, mentally I do notice there is a difference in speed just as you are driving a car with a V8 or V6. In whole, it is a plus if your device has less than 250GB, especially those with only 64 GB while higher models with higher GB would coat as much as $500 difference.

My main objective was to create an external bootable drive for my 2015 iMac, to speed things up. but even though the T5 comes with a cable to adapt the USB 3.1 to USB 3.0, I was hoping to connect to my Thunderbolt 2.0 port for a faster throughput. I purchased the USB-c male to Thunderbolt 2.0 female adapter and a Thunderbolt 2.0 cable thinking this would work since the adapter is bi-directional, but it didn't work because the Thunderbolt 2 port does not supply operating power to the T5. This was a big disappointment, but I decided to keep the drive anyway for backups. I was able to clone my internal HD and make it bootable, but doesn't show up as selectable boot drive in System Preferences. I can boot from it by holding the appropriate keys down at boot time, but it's tedious, and there's no speed advantage with USB 3.0. Also, could not find a way to format to APFS. Would only format to HFS + Hard to believe they can get 1 TB capacity in this small package. It works fine, but slower than I wanted when relegated to USB 3.0 speeds!

The Samsung portable external SSD model T5 (1TB, USB 3.1 Type C), is easy to use. I unpacked it, plugged in the supplied USB Type C cable and connected it a USB 3.0 port on my XBox One X. The XBox verified how I wanted to use this newly attached external storage device and then formatted it appropriately. I transferred my largest, most-used games over to the T5 and noticed that they launched faster and felt more... responsive? The size and weight of this thing are negligible. It's thinner than a pencil and has a footprint about the size of a pack of cards. Plug it into your device then Command Strip it to the side or back and you can forget about it until it's time to upgrade again :) The thing with these kinds of upgrades is that the beauty is in the eye(stalks) of the beholder. What I mean is that I noticed a quality of life improving savings of several seconds when I load a favorite game from this external drive, but someone else may not notice that. In any case, YMMV!

Many computers now a days only really have 128 GB or 256 GB. If you plan on working with any type of content (video or picture), it is highly recommended that you get an external storage solution. The Samsung T5 is like the sports cars of external storage. If you pair it with any newer computers that have USB 3.0 or USB 3.1 support, moving pictures, or videos will be a breeze. If you use a standard Hard Drive, it will take so much longer, up to 5 times longer. When you constantly do work with media, the extra money you spend on a drive like this pays itself off with the time you save moving content, and makes your workflow a lot snappier. The SSD has a USB-C port on it, and the box comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable, as well as a USB-C to USB-A cable so you will be ready to go wether your computer has the newer USB-C adapter or not.

The drive does get very warm during large downloads. Not hot but warm. The down load speed also seemed to go slower as the drive heated up. The drive is very light. The cable is almost heavier than the SSD. Did a test with a Toshiba 2 TB USB 3 disk drive using USB 3 ports on my computer. Transferred 130 GB from a test transfer folder on my computer SSD. it took about 32 minutes. The Samsung connected via USB C SSD took 11 minutes to transfer the same files from the same folder. So it is almost 3 times faster. Transferred the same file from the disk drives back to my computer. The Toshiba took 92 minutes. The Samsung SSD took 15 minutes. Paid about $250 at best buy for the drive.

This external SSD, when you first see it online, you'd expect it to be the same size as most standard 2.5" HD enclosures, such as Seagate, WD or EasyShare drive. This drive is actually smaller. It is about the size of a credit card and about 1/2" thick. It does come with a Standard USB3.0 to USB-C (3.1) cable as well as a UBS-C to USB-C Cable. What is good about it is the performance. It is faster at coping data than the standard IDE drives are and i use this as my goto drive when speed is important. The unit doesn't seem to feel warm or get hot at all (well at least i haven't experienced anything like that). What i love is the compact size and security knowing that it can take a little beating (unlike most physical HD). Over all very good product that has been beyond awesome Would love to see these in 2 or 4 TB at this form factor.

Problems booting MacBook Pro 2018 and USB-C

Physical size is awesome, solid looking metal smooth case. On a 2018 MacBook Pro it tests read/writes of about 500Mb/s each when using the supplied USB-C cable, and 320&350Mb/s using the USB-C to USB-A cable. Problem with Mojave when used as a boot drive, system is incredibly slow (4-6 minutes to boot) with numerous odd errors when using all USB-C connections. When using the USB-C to USB-A cable all works great though slower as the drive's r/w is slower. Tried formatted as APFS and then reformatted as HFS+, same issue - totally unusable as a boot drive when using USB-C. Other SSD's I have don't have this issue. Would not recommend if you are looking to use this as a backup boot drive.

I've read reviews for this over the years and it has consistently been rated among the best. I've had many different brands of hard drives including Lacie, G-Drive, Seagate and WD. I use them primarily to backup my MacBook Pro. This Samsung is by far the fastest and smallest hard drive I've used. The new MacBooks only have USB-C inputs and this drive includes the cable as well as a USB-A cable. It is password protected, which is another great option that some of the previous models don't offer. I bought this one on sale and for a 1TB SSD drive, this was a great deal. This is thing is ridiculously small, which makes it ultra portable. Even if you can't find this on sale, but want something fast and portable, this is about the best available. I would definitely recommend this.

Wanted an SSD so I splurged. Works well overall. So, it does do the job as expected. But wish it would have come with backup software to keep track of what was and wasn't backed up. The other models have a program called Magician I think, will see if it works on this model. The cable doesn't connect very solid but no problems so far. Just makes me feel like it could fail. I wanted to back up my old phone data but it does not come with a USB micro. That's a bummer. Then I saw BB offer the lower capacity, 500gig, at a lower price that if I would get two 500 instead of 1T, it would have been cheaper. But because of BB policy of only 15 days to return I was stuck with the 1T at a higher price. Not so sure I will continue buying anymore from BB since every other store offers 30 days to return.

    GREAT TIME MACHINE BACKUP DRIVE

The Apple owners know what a Time Machine represents and if they don't, shame on them. I was using WD regular optical drives for my time machine and it became a slow process, especially when it was time to transfer all the data to a new computer. My son told me about the speed of the Samsung SSD drive and I thought time machine would be a great application for this drive and I was not wrong. It made a big difference when I bought my new iMac and used the Samsung T5 as my backup drive. When it came time to restore all my data to my new iMac, it was a much quicker and enjoyable experience. I highly recommend this drive for Time Machine use with the Apple products.

This drive is simply the best drive you can get for your desktop computer. It's as simple as any other storage device; you plug it in and you're good to go. The prices are quite reasonable as the speed and storage closely aligns the SATA internal Samsung drives, as long as you're using the included C to C cable on a supported USB C port. I'm easily reaching the max 500+ mb/s! Works wonderfully in my Premiere workflow too - 4k media loads without a hitch on this drive, so I'm easily able to edit the same files on my desktop and laptop. This is the drive to go for if you're looking for speed!

First of all, this is probably the largest capacity drive I've ever purchased that literally fits in the palm of my hand! I bought this drive to use as "adoptable storage" on my Nvidia Shield Android TV. Plugged in the SSD, went into the Storage Settings, set the drive up to be part of system storage, and wah-lah! 1TB to use for both my movies AND games (emulators, android games, steam games whatever I want!) Speed is amazing, and because it is a solid state drive, no spinning! If you need a portable 1TB drive, or a SSD drive as part of Android TV system (definitely recommmend the Nvidia Shield), you will not be disappointed.

This drive is a great option if you don't have the scratch to go with an external NVME-type SSD. (If you don't know what that is, just look for something priced about 4x as much as this one with about 5x the speed via Thunderbolt instead of USB.) The T5 is reasonably priced for the performance level. Just be sure to use the provided cable because some USB-C charging cables don't do fast data transfer (looking at you, Apple). And don't try and save a few bucks on the WD MyPassport SSD, it's only half as fast as this one.

I researched many reviews (including YouTube) and found nearly 100% favorable comments. Turns out Best Buy had it on sale and I had a few certificate dollars to apply. That said, it has paired nicely with my new 27" iMac. I'm working on a vacation video for my travel crew and couldn't believe how fast 900 or so digital photos were quickly transferred. It is small and I like the big storage and speed. I'm using it as a drive to pair with 512 SSD internal in my iMac. My tech friend at work suggested this item but warned that it is pricier than the competition. I feel I made the right choice no matter the price.

If you’re considering buying the Samsung T5 please consider this: you will have access to a level of speed and performance that could have only been achieved by an expensive raid a couple of years ago.... on top of that you now have the reliability of an SSD on your side, something a raid could never guarantee. If you shoot 4K video and care about your time the T5 is a must have tool. It has become quickly one of my favorite investments.

I purchased the Samsung - T5 1TB External USB Type C Portable Solid State Drive from Best Buy a few weeks ago and i am using it as a start up drive on my iMac computer. This drive is amazing. It would take anywhere from 2 to 3 minutes to start and load all my stuff on my desk top. Now with this new drive 30 seconds and ready to use. All my software programs like Photoshop and Lightroom are now instant access. Everything works so much faster. Would highly recommend this product, 5 stars all day long.

I liked this SSD a lot. It is small enough to carry around everywhere, and has enough space for all my files. It was extremely fast, and transferred several GBs in a few seconds, so it really does seem to reach the advertised speeds of 0.5GB per second. The cons are that the battery of the laptop drains more quickly, and it gets a bit warm during use, thus it is not as power efficient as I may like. The SSD is a bit expensive, though not more than other SSDs with a similar capacity.

Purchase this drive to use as a boot drive for my iMac. I run a small print shop and use the Adobe products extensively, which is always a joy because they load so slow and frequently crash. Installed the latest OS and migrated my iMac drive to the SSD. InDesign, Illustrator.... all load in about 1/4 the time. Rebooting from th drive is very fast. Wondering why I didn’t do this years ago! The Samsung SSD has a very low footprint and works better than expected.
