SkyLab - 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer for Mobile Phone

SkyLab - 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer for Mobile Phones is a fun gimbal stabilizer for iPhones and other smart phones. It works as described and is easy to use. I would say this device may not be suitable for children because it is imperative that it be used and operated by the book/ instructions. I uncalibrated my device in the first 5 minutes of use. It was a challenge to download the proper software and recalibrate this item. Also do not try to use this gimbal with a phone case installed on the phone. The video is much smoother than handheld phone video. I really wish that there was an interchangeable head or part available for GoPro/ Action Cams. They make you buy an completely separate Skylab Unit for that.

It is great for what it is. It makes my vlogs look movie quailty. Only downfall, it is very awkward to carry around and a little on the heavy side.

Very easy and simple. Definitely not a professional version however, if used right makes pretty darn good videos. I did notice you have to calibrate it after each us, if not, acts crazy by spinning.

if you need a gimbal that provides smooth stable footage with your smartphones, you certainly cannot go wrong with this. for $199.99 this was definitely a worthy buy. although the usual price of 250 is a little steep. because for an extra $50 you can get the dji osmo. If i have one complaint, its just that they don't have their own app for the gimbal like DJI does. The app they tell you to download 'gimbal engine' is atrocious. videos are pixelated and completely unuseable footage. you are just better off using stock camera app. overall a great gimbal for $199.99

I purchased this online. I had some issues with calibrating the device. I worked with the support on their website quite a bit. We emailed back and forth daily. In the end I sent mine back and waited for a new one. It took a little while for their new stock to come in but I think this is a quality product. Feels very solid in your hands. If you are shooting video a lot it will get heavy, but it took an hour of shooting for that to happen. It would happen if you were not using any sort of adapter also. I have been using a Samsung Galaxy S5 and Nexus 6P. Videos have been coming out really smooth and customer support has been beyond fantastic. I can't wait to use this product more on our family adventures.

For half the price of a DJI Osmo, this can pretty much do everything that the Osmo can. Easy to calibrate and easily fit my iPhone, however without the case on. Would recommend.

Works well and comes with extra batteries. The micro usb plug on the unit is only for firmware updates or something and DOES NOT charge the stick. My wife thought it was pretty heavy but the video comes out looking so much better! I got this item on sale for $150 and it was well worth the cost. No more shaky cam! Too bad the phone attachment part cannot be changed out to accomodate actual cameras or action cams.

This is a great product. I purchased this to capture various types of clips on my iPhone 7+. I’ve used it to capture dancers, interviews, and other things. I’ve shown it to multiple other people as well. It’s a great product and worth the price.

I purchased this product to make walk through tours of homes. I sell real estate and often make previews of upcoming homes etc, and I wanted to improve the quality of my videos. I've used a similar product, but this is the first one I've purchased. I have a note 5, and after initial setup I was pretty excited. Then I noticed it was just a little off level. I recalibrated and took a few more minutes of video. Next thing I know it needed recalibrated. I toured a 4000 square foot home, and recalibrated 6 times. Very frustrating - slightly off level the entire time is just as hard to watch as my shaky steps. I haven't decided to return yet because when it stays calibrated it is fantastic. Smooth movements, reduced shake when walking, everything you would buy it for. If it stayed level I would give it 4 stars. It is down one more star for the amount of plastic used. The spring loaded grips for the phone are plastic, where metal would make me feel a lot better on an item at this price. Also occasionally it will glitch and the phone will tilt sideways for a second or two. If you can deal with the frustrations it can significantly improve your videos. Maybe it works better with a smaller phone.

I love shooting with a 3-axis gimbal. The video comes out looking beautiful and cinematic. This unit had some issues with my iPhone 7+. The gyroscopes would hold for a bit but would then glitch out sending the phone flying into the handle or against that hard stop of the servos. It would slam so hard that I feared the screen would crack. Additially the unit would shake at specific angles. My recommendation is pass on this unit and get the DJI Osmo mobile.

I purchased this after much deliberation and lots of time reading reviews, watching YouTube videos, etc. I am extremely impressed with this gimbal; the build quality is out of this world. Love the metal design; gives it just the right amount of "heft." Absolutely love the case it comes in. I throw it in a bag every day and have no worries about it getting damaged. Battery life is great. I have yet to run out of juice while recording. I don't really have any real complaints to speak of. This is great for what I use it for, which is the occasional video session or clog post.

The Sky Lab Mobile Phone Stabilizer

This is a very good mid to pro level tool for improving and capturing quality video and hard to frame visuals. The weight is very light and maneuverable. The joystick & movement is very easy & responsive. Comes with 2 sets of rechargeable batteries that last hours, and a counter-weight for larger phones. I wish the clamp where you rest the phone was easier to insert, and Bluetooth and a complementing app that could control the stabilizer, activate the camera, and give you viewfinder ability remotely from another mobile device would have made this even better.

I've had this gimble for about 2 months. I was excited to see a product for use with my iPhone 6 Plus as I frequently take video with it. Overall, the product works well. The reason for 3 stars is I was hoping for it to minimize the need to worry about the camera so I could focus on the subject. While it does stabilize the shot, I find that I have to pay close attention to its position or it will give me weird angles (tilt off the horizontal plane). It will take some time to get a good feel for it.

Hi Techie, I would guess the issue you are referring to is the horizon line drift. There are two steps to remedy this problem. Step one would be to update the Mobile Phone Gimbal to the latest firmware on our website (http://www.welcometoskylab.com/downloads/). Step two would be to perform a onsite calibration of the gimbal by following these steps (https://static1.squarespace.com/static/56e9c9c0b6aa6091faca8cdc/t/5730fdbc07eaa0ea485a5cd1/1462828544310/Phone_GImbal_Instructions.pdf). If this does not remedy the issue please contact us at [email protected] and reference support code #198A1.We will make sure to make this right. SkyLab

    Mixed review...

I recently purchased this to take better video with my iPhone 6+. The packaging is done very well, I was impressed with the quality and look of the packaging/box. After charging the batteries for about 60 minutes, I connected my iPhone and powered it up. Everything worked well and I was able to navigate the controls easily. Very intuitive piece of equipment. While all was going well, I quickly realized a few flaws. The first was the way the phone is connected in the “bay”. There is a small piece of foam above and below the “grip” to protect your phone. After just a few times of inserting and removing, the foam started to peel away. There is no other way to get the phone into the cradle, you literally have to spread the clamps and slide it it. The flaw is the foam and how quickly it will come apart. The 2nd issue is the weight of the gimbal. I can certainly appreciate the fact that they used high quality materials, it feels very, very, very solid. However, that fact also means it is very heavy. After only 15 minutes of me playing around with it, my hand/arm was starting to feel it. I guess I could have taken a rest in between shots but I don’t want to be limited in the future. I ended up returning the gimbal and getting a refund. I would have kept the item if it was lighter and if the cradle allowed me to manually open and close and adjust the tension. Unfortuntalty, with these two design flaws, I am not recommending this product.

Great Gimbal, Everything I was Looking For

I was looking for a Gimbal for the longest time, but didn't necessarily think I wanted to spend the money on one. After finding the SkyLab gimbal I am incredibly happy with my purchase, it was absolutely worth it. The device works very well, and was very easy to setup and configure (which I admit was a relief!). The SkyLab gimbal does a great job of eliminating motion blur. I recently took it out hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park, and the videos/photos we got were amazing. I plan to use it for all of my family videos going forward. Personally, this device did everything I wanted and at a price MUCH lower than some of the other gimbals I saw at Best Buy and other stores. If you are looking for a gift for someone, I could not recommend this enough.

This gimbal is fantastic for clean and smooth shots. If you are a fan of cinematic shots, this gimbal is for you. There were times when it spazzed out on me and ruined the shot, but they didnt really compare to the overall ability of this product.

Works very well with a Galaxy S8+ without a case and clearly would work with even an Otterbox. Needs no calibration or adjustment like DSLR gimbals. Perfect little run and gun kit. My only gripe is that you can't use the phone in portrait mode.
