    Solid for gaming & mixed usage, Android TV decent

    I primarily game with this wonderful TV using my PS4 Pro. You can find more details about its strengths for gaming on rtings.com. I can attest to their verdict on low input lag; I cannot notice any at all. Colors out of the box are pretty good so you don't need to do calibration magic to make your picture bearable, although it's always recommended. The Pro looks great with out of the box settings. You may need to double check you have an HDMI 2.0+ cable; cables are NOT all created equal so if you run into unusual issues (black screens or artifacts) definitely try new and/or certified cables before anything else. I've played quite a few games that are boosted for 4K and they all looked phenomenal. Dark Souls is surreal with this TV. Android TV is...OK. It's slow, it's confusing, but it's quite functional. I don't knock off a star because I prefer it over the alternatives. I don't mind functionality over usability. It's also known to be far more secure than Tizen, although Samsung is rapidly catching up in that regard. It's a matter of preference here. BB tends to have a good return policy on TVs so if you find you can't do something on Android TV you probably don't need to worry. I've tested the Netflix, Hulu and Crunchyroll apps and they've all been fine. I was quick to disable automatic software updates though. I think with all smart TVs you'll want to control or monitor updates so as to know right away if an update causes issues with your favorite app. So in terms of software, your mileage may vary. In terms of hardware, this is a fantastic product. The fact that it works well for gaming just knocks it out of the park. The 4K picture is great, the HDR is solid. I think this is a real winner if you have mixed usage. If you are just looking to watch movies then you are paying for hardware benefits that you don't really need. If you are both gaming and ingesting content I'd say this lineup is the way to go. But don't take my word for it, always read up on rtings.com as their due diligence is way above what you'll find in reviews like this.

    Let wires hanging, didn’t hook up speakers, still aren’t coordinated like they were before. Can’t have ceiling speakers on in the same room because the talking is very different speeds. Had to have them come back because of so many problems and sit and say “no, that is not ok”, When problem., no one available to talk to. I should have used an audio visual company.

    If you need any settings, visit my YouTube channel. It's SegaSaturnSNK, I have it all laid there for movies and games. The colors are super vibrant, the brightness and contrast is fantastic, and the blacks are excellent and deep. I do recommend when viewing this 4K, view it straight ahead, at a good distance, and not at an angle. Angle you'll notice white wash but it isn't the TV, it's just the angle. If you own a 930E, no need to upgrade, I believe the 930E is slightly better but this is as close to it though and much better than the 900E itself. The X1 Extreme processor is the way to go. I have not had any issues with this TV so far and I'm loving it. So glad they made a 49 inch model for this. PS4 Pro games and 4K movies running on my X800 4K player is awesome. Can't complain, Sony is the way to go for 4K TVs.

    I've always been a Samsung person, but lately their picture quality has taken a turn for the worse except in their QLed series TV's. This TV blows Samsung out of the water in this price range. The picture quality is just plain amazing. Bright, vivid colors, and superb clarity right out of the box. It makes even OTA TV channels look like 4K. As with a good majority of flat screen TV's, the sound isn't great, but it's easy to connect a sound bar or connect to a stereo system. I loved that it recognized there was a stereo connected to it during setup and automatically set the sound to use it. Great move Sony! The only issue I've run into is with the Amazon Prime Movie app. It's choppy and stalls every now and then, but that's a problem with Amazon's app, not the TV itself. If you're looking for an excellent mid-range TV, this is the one to buy. You'll be amazed.

    I was excited for this TV. I liked the features and picture to this TV. Fairly easy to use once you figure do a little research on how to close apps once the apps start to malfunction. BUT here lately after watching tv via apps I've noticed it is starting to lag and freeze a bit. Ive had the TV for about 3 months give or take. Eventually the TV turns itself off after freezing or so much lag that it basically sort of reset itself. Once it's back on everything is back to normal. So far it's done it 2 times. So I am growing concerned. I have verified the software is up to date and rad self diagnose option on the TV and it doesnt seem to encounter any issues. Only Regret NOT buying the extended warranty.

    So far, so good. I typically don't make purchases on products that have just hit the market. I decided to give it a try with Sony, because hey its a Sony. I have always purchased Sony products, preferably their televisions, and I have never been disappointed. Sony is definitely a name you can trust. I took a star off because if you have Spectrum cable, you won't be able to get their app on the TV. For whatever reason its not available on Sony Android televisions. I did some research on it and it seems to be an issue between Time Warner and Sony....anyway I digress. More about the TV...Excellent picture, great upscaling of SD content, very vivid. I have not made any changes in the settings. Personally I think the settings out of the box look great. I'm sure it can be better once I take the time to mess around with the settings. Initial setup gives you the opportunity to use the IR blaster, which I thought made setting up the remote to control all my other devices much easier than I have ever experienced setting up other products. Overall I am a very happy customer. If you are like me and want to have the latest and greatest, then you cant go wrong with making this purchase. I definitely recommend.

    Amazing 4k Performance!

    I purchased this Sony X900F 49" for the bedroom. This is an amazing set with an absolutely stunning picture. The motion handling on this set is the best I've experienced, and this includes being better than the motion handling on my current LG Oled C7. The colors and contrast is excellent, with true deep blacks, No issues with ghosting or banding/screen uniformity. The X1 Extreme chip definitely is a beast as the picture quality shows. This TV does not out perform my current oled, but for an LCD it definitely takes the cake! The apps interface is horrible, to compensate I purchased a Roku Ultra and now my TV loves Streaming media!!!! If you are on the fence on deciding on an LCD, I suggest that you buy this set and you will not regret it. Pros: Picture quality, colors, motion handling, contrast (deep blacks), anti-burn in, anti reflective screen. Cons: Apps/Interface (horrible), viewing angle quality (ok but no Oled).

    I bought last year's X900E. Best picture of any TV I have ever owned. It is so good I am giving the rating of four stars despite Sony putting the worst TV operating system on the planet on these TVs. Android TV is terrible. I keep hoping Andoid TV looks at Roku, LG, Samsung, Vizio or any of the other miriad of better TV operating systems and changes theirs.

    The picture quality on this TV is the best you can get before going OLED. It looks very pretty on my wall and it is quite the upgrade over my older TV. What is not an upgrade is Android TV. Android TV is hot garbage. So many preinstalled apps that you cannot uninstall. You have to jump through hoops to "hide" them. My BT device sometimes doesn't connect and I have to go to quit whatever app is open and go to the settings to connect it. Why it isn't available in the "action menu" is beyond me. Android is supposed to be customizable but Sony has turned it into the Apple of operating systems. I'll take the Tizen OS on my mom's MU8000 any day. Anyway, the picture quality still eons better than the MU8000 so it won my purchase.

    I really like this tv ,but for me to give 5 stars . It has to blow my socks off. I’ll start with the picture it is superb .the apps and android are slow that was a knock I read when I was looking at the reviews ,and I have great internet speed ,so that wasn’t and issue .watching football or sports period it is near 4K quality up scaling 1080 is very good .. Netflix streaming of 4K is excellent again you need enough speed ,but if you have ityou’ll get the 4K everybody wants whenbuy one of these .video games look amazing as well.. now why I gave it 4stars is because I have a LG as well and I’m able to use the optical sound as well as the tv speakers . This tv you have to turn to external speakers only . So you have to keep the remote on hand to switch back to tv speakers.and the Dolby vision is a little dark and tainted 4K on standard setting looks better and sharper ..picture settings overall need work .. other than that this is a great tv . It’s a little expensive but time will tell if it gives years of enjoyment ..hope this review helps enjoy this Sony if you grab it .

    So perfect yet such a major oversight!

    I bought this TV and absolutely love it but Sony made a catastrophic software error that makes many Netflix videos unwatchable. Because this TV supports HDR-10 all DolbyVision supported media on Netflix defaults to DolbyVision mode hijacking your picture mode settings and changes the color scheme to a dim, dark picture (almost all Netflix original programming is effected). Note that this is an actual video mode on the TV and is NOT a Netflix issue. There are no options to fix the picture that make a meaningful difference and picture modes such as "Vivid" are not available in DolbyVision mode. The color is dull and lifeless and dark scenes are virtually unwatchable. Before you buy this TV it is strongly recommend you search online for experiences related to dim, dark, dull DolbyVision. If you are upgrading from a previous 4K TV as I did (upgraded from a Sony XBR-49X830C) you will no longer be able to enjoy 4K video on netflix in the picture mode of your choice because your settings will be automatically highjacked by default to DolbyVision mode. There is no option to opt out of DolbyVision on Netflix unless you lower the video quality in Netflix settings, defeating the purpose of of buying a 4K TV at this price point. Don't get me wrong. DolbyVision is very clear and crisp but even in a dark room the picture is very dark and the color is very dull. Adding the same picture modes available on other sources (like HDMI 1 or apps) would fix the problem but as if this review Sony continues or ignore 1000s of unsatisfied customers all over the web upset with this. Some good though.... Otherwise the TV is very easy to use and the picture quality outside of DolbyVision mode is amazing. The Android operating system and ability to customize apps are also second to none! Hulu finally updated the Android TV app so profiles and the new dashboard are now available to Hulu users.

      Dear, Buyer!

      While we are glad you are happy with the ease of use, Android TV operating system and general picture quality, we are sorry you are not entirely satisfied with your X900F TV and are having issues watching Netflix content. We always strive to provide customers with the best picture quality possible, no matter what content you watch. Our engineers work closely with filmmakers and our partners at Sony Pictures to ensure our TVs deliver picture quality as the creator intended, which when showcasing Netflix content in Dolby Vision may look dark in some living settings since they were created in dark studio environments. That said, we always want customers to have the flexibility to watch content how they like. In this case, we recommend the following picture mode adjustments when in Dolby Vision Mode:

      Enter Advanced Settings

      Brightness Tab

      Brightness = Max
      Contrast = Max
      Gamma = 0 (1 if mid level brightness is still low)
      Black Level = 50
      Black Adjust = Medium
      Adv. Contrast enhancer = Medium (Low if you want more black detail)
      Auto local dimming = Medium

      Color Tab

      Color = 60
      Color Temperature = Neutral
      Live Color = Medium

      We hope you continue to enjoy your X900F TV and that the above settings correct your issues. If you need additional support please contact us at [email protected] with the following details:

    I am a sports fan and we use the MLB , the color and clarity is amazing,, I have only bought Samsung my entire life, so to switch tells you how good this 49" set is. I am not a tech type person but i know what i like and dont,.,, my only negative is you need a sound bar to complete the perfect TV, but seems thats the game on every TV now a days
