The Sony is great. Every flat panel tv I bought was a Samsung up until my most recent purchase of this Sony tv. I love both and my personal opinion is they’re both outstanding products. The pictures are a little different where the Samsung looked almost like it was a new age cartoon with the vivid colors and other aspects I just couldn’t quite nail design an own. The Sony has much better look to it I think and it’s picture is the most realistic picture I’ve ever seen. You won’t notice the difference amongst all those other products but once you get it home you will realize what I mean. Don’t get me wrong the Samsung is great and I’ve had 6-7 of them but this Sony with its sleek design and real life picture makes movies and regular tv and sports unbelievable. I was worried about changing but I’m happy that I did. Great TV. In the future I think I will buy another Samsung just to put in house away from all those tv’s at Best Buy and see which one is truly the best..........If you play video games go with Samsung but for movies and everyday tv and sports Sony all the way.

You can never go wrong with this TV. I recently purchased an LG but I have returned it in exchange for this plus additional hundreds but trust me it's all worth it. Right away out of the box I was blown away by how crisp, bright the pictures and most importantly the accuracy of the colors. Some tv may be bright, vibrant but colors are usually way off and annoying but not with this Sony X950H. The picture attached doesn't do any justice you have to see it in person.

Excellent tv! The picture is so clear and it’s very stable. I was concerned that it might be wobbly on my entertainment center because of the way the baselegs were shaped, but it doesn’t wobble at all! Loving it so far!

Great Picture - Lackluster features for 2020

Great looking TV with a vibrant picture, HDR colors are crisp, bright and have great depth. Additional Dolby Vision Dark and Light modes are a nice addition and are easily accessible from the remote. Sony has yet to increase the backlight dimming zones on the 49" model, and the 'blooming' effect has increased due to the additional brightness kicked out by the backlight from previous models. Using Sony 'recommended' settings and with a dark scene present with some bright contrast points, blooming can be substantial, covering 15-20% of the screen. Nearby blacks will appear washed out and in some scenes this even impacts the vertical bars on wide screen images and can be very distracting.
Sony has also limited the firmware on this device and has not indicated they will be supporting various newer specs, VLLM, VRR, 4K@120, even though the hardware chipsets and panel supports the technology, Sony has decided to not implement this. The cheaper lower spec'd X900H model will support these features, but its yet to be released. For some reason Sony has left them off their highest spec'd 4K model released for 2020 and as dropped the 49" model from the X900 series.
For a 49" device, you'll find this is one of the most expensive in its class, but offers a great picture in return. It lacks some future proofing technologies and suffers strong blooming from the lack of dimming zones that Sony hasnt really changed since 2018. It almost feels like the 4K models this year were crippled to make the 8K TVs more appealing.
Overall, this is a good bright room TV, but a movie buff who cannot stand visual distractions, this TV is not for you. Other manufactures with FALD seem to do a better job at this. If you are a gamer look elsewhere, most competing models from LG, Samsung and soon Vizio will support VRR, ALLM and HDMI 2.1 specifications.
Android TV still leaves a bit to be desired, the interface is rather snappy on this modem, but has crashed several times in less than a week of owning the TV.
Sony came close on this model but missed delivery on a few key technologies for a 2020 flagship high-end display and really needs to continue to innovate on the 4k lineup, adding new features.

Fantastic picture, amazing color and detail, just stunning in 4K. In my viewing arrangement there isn't enough room to sit farther than 10 feet away and there isn't room for a 55+ inch TV. Thank you Sony, for making a top of the line TV available smaller than 55 inches!!!
The 120 Hz refresh rate makes sports blur free, it has HDR, Dolby Vision, a full array and all the top end features and believe me it shows. The Android operating system means that apps are readily available and will be for the foreseeable future, which is important to me after the Samsung debacle.
A couple of tiny quibbles; An illuminated remote is state of the art now and I wish it had one. The MUTE button on a TV remote should be easy to find and it's not. How hard would it have been to make that button out of white plastic instead of a tiny black button in the middle of a forest of identical black buttons?
And that's the end of the complaints. I'm *very* happy with this TV.

The Best VA Panel TV

Was debating this vs. the Samsung Q80, but went with this due to Samsung's (continued) lack of Dolby Vision 12-bit color and better color calibration out of the box. If I were using for gaming I'd probably have gone with the Q80 due to lower input lag & response time or, even better the LG 49CX. For movies and TV shows in the bedroom this is about the best 49" option available unless you want to spend the extra $600 and get the LG CX. As mentioned the color is excellent out of the box, more accurate from jump than even the LG C9 we have, and HDR really pops, better than I expected from a VA panel. The Android TV OS is finicky, as it has always been, but it's also incredibly robust and supports almost every audio and video codec you can think of out of the box, and if you are a Plex or media server user, it saves you the $100-150 you'd need to spend for a streaming device that can direct play content. Sound quality is really impressive, I wouldn't even consider a soundbar for this TV unless you're going to constantly be around 60+ volume constantly, at higher levels it gets a bit muddled, but lower volume levels are bright and punchy. Great purchase, very happy with it.

Ok now that I had this TV for a month I can truly write about it and tell my experience. I have had a Panasonic Plasma for over 15 years and never once had an issue. So when I purchased the X950H series I really did my research study. This Sony TV is now the best TV I ever owned. Very user friendly and easy to use options. Full array with a refresh rate of 120hz this does everything I need for my PS5 and 4K movies. The speakers are good even though I'm using a Bose sound bar. I am truly happy with my purchase. The picture is incredible. Watching sports is amazing. Spending over a thousand dollars on a 49 inch may sound crazy, but knowing how few there are didn't make it difficult. The price may be high, but that's the price for quality.

I am very impressed with this television overall. It has excellent picture quality if you take the time to tweak picture settings to your preference. Color looks good out of the box, but getting black levels, brightness and motion looking it’s best is where you have to be patient and change some settings from their defaults.
The only drawback of this television is the off axis viewing. With this being a smaller television with a VA panel and no wide angle filter or anything to help the off angle viewing, the colors and black degrade pretty quickly and shows significant blooming off center (less than 30 degrees). It’s watchable, but pales in comparison to the picture presented to you looking straight on.
With great black levels, brightness, contrast, shadow detail, motion, highlight detail, and accurate color, the Sony XBR X950H is one of the best if not the best choice you can make if you’re in the market for a 50 inch television! Highly Recommended!

This tv replaced our Samsung js7000. It was the first QLED. It had a great picture but no HDR. The surprise is that the x950h offers way more than just HDR.The picture is knife edge sharp and very bright. The black bars on movies are black hole black. The back lighting makes such a difference. The upscaling is spectacular. This is the finest tv we have owned. It works very well in out bright living room.

Sony makes great TV products and they don’t disappoint with their X950H. Due to COVID issues I couldn’t physically look at the TV and purchased it based on the reviews from the Best Buy website. I was debating between the 800H and this model. I reached out to a Best Buy technical person to learn the differences and spoke with a women who typically visits people’s home to help them find the best solution for home entertainment needs.
I learned the difference between the two models I was viewing, at that time, were: The X950H has a better processor, their fastest, a wider viewing angle and was released in 2020. The 800H was released in 2018.
Picture quality, color saturation, especially with the blacks, and functionality are outstanding. Skin tones of faces are natural and healthy looking compared to a higher end 4K TV I watched at a Hilton hotel in mid March. The faces of news personalities looked horrible. Very unnatural.
I purchased a Roku Ultra 4K Streaming Media Player with the JBL headphones to replace an older, non 4K, Roku. The Ultra 4K works great with the TV. I think it provides a better picture than the Apps that come with the TV.
I highly recommend the X950H 49” TV. Having purchased it sight unseen and going by customer recommendations and that of the Best Buy support person I am very satisfied.
If you can afford the extra dollars for the X950H it is worth it in the long run. You will be very happy with your decision.

I purchased this television after one of my Samsung televisions up and died after 3 years. I do have other Samsung televisions that are still going strong but after this experience I decided to consider other options. I considered LG and Sony. I have two other Sony televisions that have performed amazingly and have been really reliable. I found the LGs to look amazing but I found reviews about their software concerning and they’re simply more expensive. I think the top end LG models might be worth the price but there doesn’t seem to be value in lower models. Thus, I feel like the quality, appearance, solid construction, performance, predicted reliability, and value of this television made it my top pick.
LOVE: 4 HDMI INPUTS, CHROMECAST, MIRACAST, ALEXA ENABLED, VOICE CONTROL, AIRPLAY, BUILT-IN WIFI, ETHERNET, DOLBY VISION, HDR 10...
FULL ARRRAY LED IS TOTALLY AMAZING! The picture on the television still blows me away every time I watch it.
I recommend giving this line of televisions, whatever size you need, serious consideration.

I bought this TV about a month ago, and haven't looked back. I have a Vizio V Series 4k 120hz TV, and noticed a lot of picture issues, flickering, dirty screen, blur, stuttering etc. But when I bought this Sony every problem went away, and I noticed new ones with the motion, and sound. Sony has blown me away with its wide viewing angle allowing me to watch anywhere in my room and the same quality, quick UI response, easy setup (for the technologically sound), amazing picture, and full sound. This TV has many features to improve your viewing, as well as a very user friendly interface. I have now returned this wonderful TV, for a 900H for the HDMI 2.1 input this slightly better TV doesn't have because I am a gamer before a streamer, and will post that review as well. Thank you Sony.
