Customers enjoy the excellent image quality and bokeh of the 50mm f/1.8 OSS Prime Lens, finding it lightweight and well-suited for low-light photography and portraits. Many appreciate its ease of use and affordability. However, some users note that the focal length may require more distance from the subject.

This lens takes some amazingly clearly pictures. If you wanted to own only one prime lens I would highly recommend this be it for your Sony camera. It is great for portrait, low light, and narrow focus. I find unless I need to zoom in more this has become my primary lens when out.

I have the Sony ZV-e10 in white, besides matching my camera it’s light weight, captures sharp pictures and Best Buy shipped it out quickly

For the money you should have this lens. I'm not a pro, but gosh you can take some really sharp pictures. The 35mm is another option if you have a little more money in the wallet, but this is a great place to start to build excitement. Photos were taken with my a6000.

This lens has done wonders for my Sony A6000!! Even though it's technically a portrait lens it takes great sport and landscape photos if you properly adjust your settings.

After reading so many strong reviews I bought this prime portrait lens last month from Best Buy for my Sony a6000 and a5100 cameras.
It's light , well made and super fun to use. It focuses right away, great color, nice round bokeh and super sharp even in low light. I also use the sony 16-50, 55-210 lenses .. happy with those too.
I haven't given up my Canon dslr, but with this sweet gem, plus my other lenses I can travel light and feel confident in the quality of my photographs when using my mirrorless cameras.

The 50mm lens has been a wonderful upgrade for my camera. I researched a few different lenses and according to DxOMark, this was as sharp as it gets. For what I paid, I'm very happy. The lens is very versatile, shooting (almost) macro, great portraits, fun street-photography, low light, it really does a lot. The focus ring is nice to use, with some resistance but no detents. Some may not like the "electronic" feel of it, but I don't personally mind. At least it doesn't spin like it's on ball bearings. I do enjoy the level of bokeh it offers, although at times, I can see poorly shaped balls. Not a huge deal, this is a relatively cheap lens that still does a really great job taking usable photos.

I initially bought this lens to use for the next few months until I finish saving for one of the nicer models but really, after a few sessions with this one I'm pretty satisfied, to the point that I'm adding and upgrading other pieces before this one.
Focus is fast, optics are clear with a minimal amount of distortion around the edges. Very little chromatic aberration and with such a wide aperture is very easy to throw the background out of focus entirely and make the subject pop.
I use it often to photograph bands during their performances and the low-light performance is stellar. Definitely a must-have in your bag.

We are not professional photographers so we were looking for something that was easy enough to use without having to read the manual. Success! The manual does help you to learn additional tricks, but the auto shoot on our camera adjusts this lens as necessary, so you don't have to dig through the manual if you don't want to. We use it mostly for family photos, and they're turning out clear, crisp, and full of color.

Great bokeh and clear pictures... which is exactly what I was looking for. However , caution that this lense shoots at shorter length aka zoomed in view . It can be a pain sometimes hence the 4 stars instead of 5 , but definitely worth it with this cost.

Keeping my 50mm

I happened to purchase the 50mm first...wrong move due to most of my shots being taken within my small home of moving children...room available was the deciding factor on why I went back to purchase the 35mm; I would find myself tripping over things, always looking behind my shoulders to see if I had more room to scoot back with the 50mm, in order to get the shot I wanted. (I did keep my 50mm though due to liking this one for some outdoor shots...I've heard printed photos are better with the 50...I don't know how true this is!)
I use the 50/1.8 when I want a head/shoulders/portrait shots of one of my kids. But the 35mm is perfect for general use and if I had a choice of only one...it would be the 35/1.8! Still a great lens though, exactly why it was kept!

I'd say this is the first lens you should buy after getting an a600/6300/6500. At $250 it's a bit of a steal. Great portrait lens. Fast and provides great bokeh. Maybe the 35mm is better suited for your needs, but for the price difference I'll take a few steps back when shooting.

So far with having this a little over a week now, I'll have to say it is really great an for price point it cannot be beat. Very fast an sharp lens. I'd highly recommend. It is tough in tight places, just learn to adapt an you will not regret it. Hope you enjoy it if you get it.

Using on a6300 and a6500. Makes me look like a better photographer than I am. Great low light. Impressive bokah. It's great for landscapes but ended up having to set up too far back for family group photos. Not a fault of the lens, just need a 35mm or smaller for that application.
