I purchased this tv because I wanted to replace my classic tv that had pip features, once I realize the pip features was only in other connection opponents such as the rca connect and coaxial cable connect and not the HDMI. I would have not purchase the Sony... Good TV don't get it wrong but I could have explored my option more..

    Sony 55" Bravia series X800G

The class of Sony televison has a remarkable, vivid color that is crisp and so incredibly clear. Sony makes sets in a range of sizes and each series has improvements and enhancements over the previous model. The tweeks they make can be confusing so you really have to do your homework to figure out what set is best for you. We first purchased the 49" X800G in this series. This set was a replacement for a Mitsubishi 65" projection tv that had a refresh rate of 60hz. When we first got it, we watched Star Wars. In the fight scene on the death star, the Mitsubishi couldn't show a clear picture. The whole dark scene was just the beams of light and a blur of black. The Sony 800 is a 60hz tv also but this model can amp up to 240hz when the scene calls for it. However on the 49" model the screen would blank for a moment and then pop back with the upped refresh rate. It took a a bit to figure this out. When my wife and our daughter would game together, they found the 49" model was too small vs. the 65" so we ended up switching to the 55" model a week later after trying to adjust. Funny that the girls couldn't take the smaller screen. I was happy because it's definitely easier for me to see a larger screen as my eyesight isn't as good as it used to be. Watching action movies and sports on this set is SO much better than the projection tv! When this set amp's up, it doesn't do the same blanking as the 49". Also, the 49" set was slower to respond to it's remote control than the 55". Switching menus is a bit troublesome because nothing is labeled on the remote. While younger folks seem ( but not as many as people presume ) to be fine with figuring out what button does what, my wife and I do not find this to be so. Adjusting the picture colors, sharpness, brightness and other tones isn't very straight forward. You have to hunt through the menu. They 55" has a menu with short videos to walk you through features which is helpful. The google store doesn't allow access to as many app's from the set and chromecast is a bother! We ended up buying a Roku because app's like Britbox, Viki and others aren't available on the Sony. While you can use chromecast, it is a major pain if you like binge watching programs on the app's we use. The remote control use is a pain as well. Though on the 55" the remote does work much better, you still have to point the controller at the set with no obstructions between the set and remote. Even out cable box remote works the set easier than the Sony remote. Though the cable remote cannot access many of the new features on the tv. I hope this helps.

Super picture and easy to set up. Had it running in less than an hour. I just use a tv as a tv, not even using the smart capability. Am retired and just wanted a good TV picture for my HD cable. Boy did I get it! Have always been a Sony fan and this one is just the ticket and was very competitive on price. Thank you Sony for your Quality! The TV I replaced has been with us for almost 10years and still works great. Just moving it to a different room. Never had one problem with it.

Picture is great and lots of watching options. It was easy to set up and install. We mounted it to the wall with a flat mount. I am very happy with the quality of the tv. Sony is the only brand of tv we will buy because of past experiences. The whole family prefers a very pleased with this.

I had to adjust the display from the factory settings since most of the settings have been maxed out. The sound is decent but I ended up buying a sound bar to maximize the experience. Since it was Android I was able to set up my phone to be a remote and logged in using my account. And the set up was pretty fast. I didn't even know how but it connected to my wifi without much effort. Setting up was a little slow at first because it was all pictures and drawings. Think of it as visiting a foreign airport and you see arrows and pictures and trying to figure out what the heck you're supposed to do. Some were obvious some you really need to think hard. But it was easy enough that I did it by myself. You just need to be careful so not to tip it over. There's only a couple of useful apps for my taste. There's no browser. So you need to download your favorite network apps to watch their content. The remote is lacking. The design around the navigation button is annoying. Really annoying. I always end up pressing the TV button instead of the down button because they are so close to each other. At least the TV is pretty responsive. I kinda hope they borrowed the trackpad feature of the Apple Tv remote. Their approach is still old school. And the search function could use some text suggestion. It's a pain to press up down left right just to enter a letter. But I bought the TV because of the TV. So on that front I'm quite satisfied.

It’s been several years since my last Sony. Just as then, quality in brand recognition was the determining factor on this unit. Picture, sound, ease of use and setup....all the same traditional quality one would expect from Sony. My first 4K tv purchase. Picture is hands down better than previous 1080p. Surprisingly, darks were pretty deep and rich as well!! As a smart tv, plenty of apps were loaded and easy to access. No lagging at all on sports events! Just go buy one and stop reading this. You won’t be disappointed!

We were trying to decide between a Samsung and this Sony TV. We have several Samsung devices, so I was leaning that way for compatibility reasons. After thoroughly reviewing the specs and looking at the picture in store, I changed my mind. The Sony appeared to be a much better TV. After getting it home, hooking it up, and using it for several days, I have to say that this is definitely a great purchase. It's nice to have an actually smart TV. The software is sleek and user friendly, and the picture is amazing.

I spent quite a bit of time comparing 4K TV's in this price point. And, no one can convince me I made a mistake. Beautiful color. Sharp lines. Easily navigated... I watch over the air and stream. Never an issue with picture quality or reception. Highly recommended!

I was a little skeptical of buying this tv because I have bought televisions in the past that show a great picture in the store but the picture is terrible when you get it home. That was not the case with this tv. The picture quality is very good. The price was reasonable. It's a smart tv so all the apps you probably need are built in which makes it very easy. Also, I has screen mirroring built in so that's always an option as well. The sound quality is decent but you don't expect superior sound quality unless you buy a soundbar/extra equipment. It has plenty of HDMI ports (4 of them) which is enough for m to plug in all my equipment. Overall, I am happy with my purchase up to this point.
