I wanted a few weeks before I posted just to make sure this set lived up to its price. Out of the box I first hung it up and then updated it’s software. The set doesn’t really stick out that much with the attached stand was kind of concerned about that but no big deal. Picture setting out of the box are ok, but in some cases highlights are blown out, I adjusted the settings and all that have seen this are amazed. Colors are realistic, 4K HDR scenes/ videos are amazing, black levels are better than anything I have seen even better than the Panasonic and Pioneer plasmas that we’re the benchmark for black levels. I was concerned how well a 1080P Cable tv broadcast would look on a 4K set. I will say I was pleasantly surprised. The upscaling really works better than expected, sure it’s not the same as 4K video, but if your sitting minimally 5’ award will (hope so) you will be happy too. Some of my friends have 4K sets and not to be bias, their sets don’t upscale as nice. Now onto sound. I first thought this was gimmicky, but I will say the sound is way better than expected. Highs are high even lows are low with the built in sub. Very impressive. It’s not as good as a dedicated system but I can say it better than any set I have had. The remote control is really my only gripe. This controller looks so basic like from the early 2000’s.. a set with these capabilities I would expect a remote to compliment all the capabilities quickly and intuitively, but everything can’t be awesome and I understand. I’ll take the great picture and sound quality vs a remote.

    Simply Amazing!

This is one amazing television! The picture is vibrant, clear, and sharp make sure you hook the cable provider box to HDMI port two or three on the back of the TV. Then go to your input settings and change from standard to Enhance HDMI to get the most out of the 4K picture. The sound coming from this set is loud and crisp, no need for a sound bar. I thought I would have buyers remorse when I took it home, but that went away very quickly once I set it up correctly and saw that picture was better then what I experienced at Best Buy. The remote is just ok and could be better (learning curve). I'm starting to warm up to it. I wish it would light up for night time use but it does have voice activation. I wall mounted the TV and it sticks out about 4 1/2 inches from the wall. You can also pair it with Alexa. I would highly recommend this OLED TV for anyone who can afford this. It's pricey so catch it on sale.

First TV That Can Match a Pioneer Kuro Plasma

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

LCD has come a long way over the years, but in my opinion it could never quite achieve what a very good plasma screen like the Pioneer Kuro could with respect to black levels and viewing angles. This OLED screen, coupled with Sony's excellent signal processing, is the first I've seen that meets or even exceeds top plasma technology. First, the black levels are truly spectacular, giving high quality source materials like a good Blu-ray disc a dramatic degree of realism that you simply have to see in person to appreciate. This is one of the strengths of OLED technology that sets it apart from LCD -- some very expensive LCD sets come pretty close, but there is a richness to the OLED images that LCD just can't quite match. Another plasma-like trait of OLED is a very wide viewing angle, which is better because OLED pixels emit their own light as opposed to LCD's transmissive nature that requires backlighting. As a result, there is no off-axis color or contrast shift with OLED, which allows viewers to see the same picture quality from pretty much anywhere in a room. I think this is one reason this TV has such a "wow" factor when people see it. Finally, another aspect of Sony TVs that doesn't always get the press it deserves is their excellent upconversion from lower resolution sources. A 4K TV has four times the native resolution of an HDTV source, and more than 20 times the resolution of an SD source like DVD. All lower-resolution images must be upconverted to use all of the 4K pixels so that the pictures will fill up the screen, and not every 4K TV does this magic trick well. This TV does it exceptionally well, which is very important when you consider that the people considering this TV probably have mountains of DVDs and Blu-ray discs in their libraries that need to look their best on a higher resolution screen. The importance of upconversion can be easily overlooked when a TV is demonstrated with native 4K sources in a showroom, and I do wish that Best Buy would accommodate a way to evaluate the quality of lower resolution sources in their stores (have a Blu-ray player connected for example). After all, how much actual 4K material is available compared with HDTV and SD on an everyday basis? I'm happy to report that this TV is exceeding my expectations in every respect. Watch an episode of "Gotham" on it, a very dark program indeed, and you'll feel like you're in a different world. I was initially concerned about the non-perpendicular "easel" angle of the screen being a problem, but have found it to be completely unnoticeable despite sitting at a lower height than the TV. If you're worried about this, I wouldn't be. If your budget allows for this price point, I think you'll find there is real value here. If you can live with the clunky and somewhat buggy Android operating system (I wouldn't bother with its slow, unresponsive smart TV functions -- an Apple TV or Roku box is a much more elegant way to get what you need for streaming content), I think this TV is one you'll be proud to own.

The 4.9 rating for this TV is right on. It would be 5.0 if not for the glitchy Android operating system. It gets the job done, but is not the greatest as far as operating systems go. That being said, the picture is truly fabulous. I previously had the flagship Samsung from 2015 (JS9500). which was and still is a great tv. The Samsungs only weakness was dark and near dark scenes. While the colors and bright scenes were great, dark greys and blacks sometimes look purplish and inconsistent, with random blooming. Not so with the Sony A1E. Blacks are deep inky full black. Nothing spotty or inconsistent, just deep dark black. Colors are vivid and brilliant, full and very natural - they really stand out in contrast to the deep blacks. Game of Thrones and other shows like it look absolutely fantastic. Watched space scenes in Passengers - unbelievably good. Be sure to test all the modes and settings to see what you like best - I use the Cinema Pro mode tweaked the way I like, and the accuracy of colors and skin tones is outstanding. The motion processing is great, sports look great, no problems there. Sound is fine, but a tv as good as this one should have a nice sound system to really put it over the top. No TV is perfect yet, including this one, but this is as close to perfection as any TV has ever gotten. It is expensive but Sony has a clear winner with this one. You will not be dissappointed with this beauty.

Hi Softballwolf, we are sorry to hear what happened and we are more than happy to help you with. Does the issue occur when using a different source or input? We can try performing a reset on the TV to isolate the issue: https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/75705/. I hope this will fix the issue: Best regards, -Erin sony_US

We have had this tv less than 2 years (problem reported 3 months ago) and it has a big green blob in the middle of the screen. Sony says it’s “burn in”. It’s a hot spot in the middle of the TV so it’s their panel that is running hot and causing this so called “burn in”. I will never buy another Sony product.

Got my Sony A1E installed 04/15/17. I expected very very good picture quality. This television has exceeded my expectations. The upscaling of standard definition sources to 4K is astounding. I have not been able to review 4K content since I do not have a 4K player-yet. Therefore, I have not been been able to view HDR material. Watched the movie Easter Parade on Easter on AMC Channel and the dance sequence numbers were unbelievably superb. The colors of the costumes were spectacular. I have tried to upgrade my DirecTV equipment for 4K but they have been a nightmare to deal with for their one channel that is not pay-per-view. The sound on the A1E is better than expected. I actually turned down the brightness on the Standard Mode setting because the whites were so bright during commercials! My previous set was a Pioneer Plasma and I was concerned about motion while watching sports. The motion processing on this set is on a par with plasma. There is no ghosting or blur from the centerfield camera as a pitch heads to home plate. Beautiful. The picture is stunning. I am in awe each time the set is on. I struggled making a choice between 2017 LG and Sony OLED's. Both sets are brilliant. The upscaling and motion were deciding factors in my decision. I like the remote and Web OS better on the LG. The remote on the Sony is very capable and I like more buttons than fewer so I can get the remote to do what I want...without having to scramble for directions but there is something about the remote on the LG W7. There is only one 3.5mm input for any older analog device (camcorder,Wii) that needs an Analog Extesion Cable-not provided. The Sony XBR65A1E is Outstanding!! This set has actually looked better in a home environment than it did in the store and it looked amazing in the store. The installers from Magnolia did a superb job on my wall mount and my salesperson (George K) gets my appreciation.

I had just purchased the 930D Bravia in January when this was released so I sold the 930D and upgraded to this set from Best Buy. I have always owned Sony LCD and LED Flatscreens and I was an early adopter for the first gen 4K they ever produced which turned out to be a mistake since 1 year later they dropped in price and added new technology. This set blows away any other 4K on the market today. The picture is pristine crystal clear colors and black levels. It is the thinnest set I have ever seen. The guts of the set are housed in the back actually embedded into the fold out stand. I chose to mount this to the wall and it does stick out just a bit since the stand is not removable but it is not noticeable. Voice remote is the same as last two generation LED sets and controls are pretty much the same. Fires up fast and 4K is absolutely stunning. The picture is clear and beautiful. The TV is not as flexible as other LEDs and the Sony name is stronger than LG when it comes to TV. Price is pretty steep and I can see this price dropping in a year or two but for now, this remains the best TV on the market.

I'm speechless with the picture quality

The most amazing picture quality ever PERIOD, I received my Sony a1e on 4-14-17, and straight out of the box, the picture quality is outstanding, I thought the sound coming from the screen was a gimmick, but I was so wrong, the sound quality is amazing, even though I have a 7.1.2 surround sound with Dolby atmos, and I love the sound coming from the screen, this is the perfect sound to watch drama movies, the blacks are superb and the detail on black scenes blew me away, the HDR contest on this tv has no competition, this tv is worth the money in every aspect, the motion handling is incredible, I'm so amazed by this tv, We all. Know that the screen is from LG, but what makes the difference here is the Sony processing, the picture quality, the motion handling and the X1extreme chip, for those with doubts about this tv, just go to see it on display and I guarantee you that you will write the same review like my, from now then, I'll call this tv the HOLY GRAIL of all tv's.

You really need to tweak the picture through calibration, but overall very nice. Out of the box, it will take two people to setup. The remote is junk, but the TV's design is like nothing I've ever seen. I also have a LG 65/55 inch OLED, so the picture quality is comparable. I believe Sony utilizes LG technology in their OLED, so the picture quality is nearly identical. Sony wins by the design. I was also highly impressed with the sound quality since the TV has no standard speakers. Not really worth over 5,000K since you could spend about 2-3K and get the same picture quality with an LG...but nobody will be as "Wow'ed" with the LG design compared to Sony's incredible build. Overall, very pleased. If you have money to burn, go for it!
