Customers love the AS20 HD Action Cam for its video quality, affordable price, and waterproof design. They appreciate how easy it is to use and its compact size. However, some users have concerns about its short battery life, occasional fogging issues, limited accessory options compared to competitors like GoPro, and the fact that the tripod mount is part of the outer case.

Good camera for a warmup to better action camera

Bought this camera for a cruise trip where we were going to go swimming with stingrays. I did not own an action cam until this.
The price was right for an open box item so I took a chance.
I was surprised how good the pictures and video were. The camera controls were not very intuitive compared to a regular camera, but I have nothing to compare it too for an action camera.
It is water proof in the housing and dust proof as my son took it on a dusty ATV trip on the same cruise. As I said the controls are not easy so he left it on at one point and I have an hour of the inside of a backpack.
I am satisfied once I get used to controls.

I have shot an SLR for many years and got a little jealous of my sons Go Pro camera. Thought I would get in the action and found this Sony on sale. I used it extensively around Christmas shooting Christmas lights, indoor opening of presents and filming the dog. It did Okay for the dog which was done outdoors during daylight. The low light shots inside around the Christmas tree were poor at best. Most pictures suffered motion blur and pictures of Christmas lights on houses were all a disaster as the movement of the car and low light environment made for artsy blurs, none of which were recognizable. Don't use this camera in low light environments. Another problem is that the camera, without the water resistant case has no mounting and must be hand held. The few pictures and videos I have gotten to work out seems pretty good and the size of the camera makes it easy to throw into a pocket or purse. Not a replacement for an SLR but adequate for daylight shooting.

Camera unboxed nicely. Assembly was a little tedious but got it done quickly. Manual is hard to read. What's really cool is the camera becomes its own wireless hot spot. Getting an ipod to connect to it took a few retries but once you get it connected you are surprised - even delighted - with the results. The range of the wifi is limited though. Maybe that enhances battery life. You need to shut the camera down when recharging or it doesn't really recharge. Video quality is superb. Tried the waterproof-edness in the kitchen sink and it worked. Overall, as a camera that competes with GoPro this one is really nice. I gave it to my daughter for Christmas with a tripod and she is eager to use it. I included a 32GB card for the camera and this brings it up to over 4 hours of video it can store. Awesome!

Was looking for a waterproof camera to capture videos and pics for a family day at the water park. This is a great option if you are looking to save some money and still wan 1080p. Quality is great and it's much cheaper than the GoPros with 1080p. I actually prefer the style of this sony vs gopro as well as this is easier (for me) to carry in my hand and take videos. If you are not looking for the professional's choice action cam and something to use similar to my purpose, save yourself some money and go with this one.

My daughter and her boyfriend are very outdoorsy and love to take videos. They loved this as it is small, lightweight, and easily attaches to their vehicle. It's also waterproof which is great for when they are riding through the mud.

It was a toss up between the Sony or the go pro at this price point. The Go Pro battery was not removable. Needed to spend much more for that convenience. I use it as a dash cam.. The battery lasts 2 hrs before charging. I purchased spares on Amazon with charger. I just ordered the wrist viewer on Amazon also. The picture is excellent with decent low light abilities.

Excellent POV Camera, Better Pricing than GoPro

I bought this Sony Action Cam after weeks of researching whether I should spend the big bucks to get a GoPro. I'm planning on using this POV HD camera to record our experiences and vacations while skiing, swimming, hiking, camping, kayaking, dashboard cam...pretty much anywhere that I wouldn't want my iPhone exposed or at risk. The image quality and stabilization is excellent, plus it has a ton of extra settings and features to choose from. The fish eye, wide angled lens isn't that bad and it still allows you to watch playback videos without getting dizzy, plus you get to see a lot more of the picture than a typical camera lens. I think this is a great POV camera for a beginner looking to just get into using an action cam, and for the price you can't beat it!

I just got this for valentines day and I realized my life is not as adventurous as I had thought. But when I do get around to doing cool stuff, I'll have the right camera for it. It seems to take pretty good video. It's a pretty good cheaper alternative to a GoPro. The only drawbacks I have seen are that you can't stand it up on it's own without the waterproof case, and there's no screen to see what you are shooting. But the app is cool. you can see what you are recording live on your smartphone and you can transfer video and pics to your phone wireless and fast. There seem to be plenty of accessories out there for it. Sony has been around for a long time and are known for quality, so you can rest assured that you are getting a good camera.

went into best buy to purchase a go pro camera because that what we think is the best but this camera was not only cheaper but came with more options and to know the technology is the same as in the go pro only sony has image stabalization. the quality of the video was amazing and the ease of use was a huge bonus. The extras that come with this camera make it worth every penny you pay for it. If you are looking for a better alternative to GoPro then I would suggest this camera

After a ton of comparison between this and a GoPro I ultimately went with this. It does everything the GoPro does for half the cost. I bought this to attach to my motorcycle helmet. As far as the sturdiness of the camera, I haven't done much with it yet but from the videos I've watched on Youtube, this thing will take a beating and keep on going. I can't comment on the waterproof case as I have not yet used it. Battery life is acceptable, about 2 hours on a full charge. I don't like that I can't use it while charging. Video and sound quality is excellent, just make sure you use an sd card with a high enough rating, 10 is the best. I love that I can link this to my phone and watch in real time what I'm recording as well as control the camera from the same app. There is virtually no delay between the two whereas with a GoPro it's about 5 seconds. Overall I am very happy with this camera and would recommend it to anyone looking into their first action style camera. My only complaint is the interface on the camera itself is sometimes a pain to use in conjunction with the app.

I drive a truck, and have been taking movies of my travels. The pictures are exceptionally clear. Very good colors etc. I mounted the camera on my dash, so it is very easy to turn on and off. I have yet to use my remote, or my head mount. Also very easy to transfer on to my computer. An excellent choice for anyone looking for an action camera. More pixels than the Go-Pro. Very happy with the purchase.

Quality First Action & Nature Cam

I purchased the camera for my 11 year old son. He asked for a GoPro which was too much money for something that might not be used or could be lost. The camera works great and WiFi use with smartphone works great to allow framing of picture and remote control of recording.
Image quality is very good unless pointed into the sun. Time lapse mode is great for recording projects like Cub Scouts setting up camp or recording construction. An extra battery is very important if taking the camera on an overnight outing.
I like the camera format for fixed mounting and gathering nature shots at the bird feeder. Very easy to handhold and point vs GoPro box like case. The sound is much better with camera removed from case. The case is a good design and is well sealed. Overall, a great choice for a name brand quality action camera on a budget. My son lost interest quickly in the camera but I continue to use this camera to add extra shots and time lapse sequences to my video projects.

I've been reading reviews and on the fence about this camera but so happy with my purchase. It's easy to use, pretty good quality and fairly durable. The Sony mobile app is a little dated and lacks some better options for managing the photos but the camera itself is great.

I chose the Sony over a GoPro for affordability and design. Looking to mount this cam in a variety of situations (including on the side of my fire helmet), I didn't want the blockiness of a GoPro.
After researching the features, I've been very pleased with the Sony. The video and audio quality is even better than I had hoped. The stability is excellent - I purchased a chest mount and rode around on my Yamaha TW200. Produced an excellent video. The slow motion and super slow motion work very well - but only use outdoors or in very well-lit areas.
The price, quality and mounting flexibility this camera offers makes me highly recommend this to anyone. I use the Sony app on my Android as a wireless viewfinder - it works great! I'm able to adjust the camera while looking at my phone, which is great when you're working on the go or you've mounted the camera in a hard-to-access spot.
I plan on testing the provided underwater housing this summer, but the build quality appears spot-on for the rated depth. Camera seems very durable, only complaint is the battery/card cover flap appears flimsy but has never actually broken on me - so it's probably built just fine.

Solid Action Camera

I have owned this camera for over a year and have taken it on multiple vacations and trips through many different weather conditions and I think this action camera is a very solid alternative to the more popular GoPro. These are very capable cameras with 1080p 60fps recording. I would look up sample videos for actual footage from the action cam, but I think it is of good quality, as long as you know how a wide angle image from an action camera looks like (some distortion along the edges). The battery in my opinion is phenomenal. The wifi functions could be better, but it does work when you learn how to set it up correctly. The built in stereo mics are decent for what they are. The waterproof housing that comes with the camera is decent although there other options such as the open Skeleton Frame and external LCD unit, which I also purchased, and other first party accessories. There are not as many accessories as GoPros though, even from 3rd party companies. Also note that the ports are on the bottom of the camera, and if you are going to use an external mic for example, there is no easy way of using the camera since mounting screws are only on the housing, not the camera itself. Overall it is a solid camera with only a couple of drawbacks/annoyances.
