Thanks to the ststem update on 11/19/2024, you can play stream from the cloud server without connecting to PS5 if you are a PlayStation Plus Premium member. The choice is limited, and they say that this is still a beta test, but it works! The save data are stored in the cloud and synchronized to PS5, so you can play seamlessly with both consoles. I am on a vacation away from home, but I can play at the hotel without flustrations. Hope this would be the official function and the choice of games will be increased.

This is a great produce. The screen is awesome, the controls feel natural and just like the regular PS5 controller. I have had no connection issues and it stays connected to the PS5 well.
The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is that it seems like it could easily have more functionality to work without connecting to a console or the PlayStation Plus library (apps, media, etc).

Promising Concept, but Connectivity Issues Held It

After seeing so many positive reviews and knowing how flawlessly my PS5s run, I thought the PlayStation Portal would be a no-brainer. My consoles are hardwired, so I expected a smooth experience—but unfortunately, I ran into significant lag that made even single-player offline games nearly unplayable.
To be fair, this may be a result of my internet service provider, but I tested alternative remote play solutions (like apps on my computer), and those worked without issue. Further I pay for higher speeds and I do not have this issue to other devices. When the Portal did work, I really enjoyed the experience—it has a lot of potential.
Ultimately, though, the inconsistent performance was too frustrating, and I ended up returning it. I genuinely hope future updates or hardware iterations resolve these issues, because the concept is great.

This product is a great ADDITION to the PS5.
Item is not Bluetooth capable, can only use PS product (headset) with device. Someone else cannot play your Ps5 while this device is in use.

The Sony PlayStation portal looks and feel better than using the backbone. It has a little weight to it but is high quality construction. It doesn't quite feel like a PlayStation controller but close. The screen and the graphics are very good, just like a miniature experience that one would get on the PS5. Because of this, I would recommend getting some screen protectors and a after market case to store and transport it.
I haven't experienced any latency when playing. It really depends on your connectivity for online gaming. It's a great value.

I’ve had my PS Portal for a little over two weeks, and all in all, it has exceeded my expectations. Playing at home, I’ve noticed very few signs that indicate I’m not playing my games natively on the portal.
The picture on the display is crisp, the sound is pretty loud, and the build feels premium. The handheld experience is in a league of its own, in my opinion. The screen size, the familiar feel of the Dual Sense controller, and the haptic feedback almost feels like I'm playing on my PS5—minus the obvious screen size difference from a TV to an 8-inch screen.
The PS Portal has given me the freedom to play anywhere in my house without the hassle of setting up remote play on my phone, laptop, and a controller. When my wife is watching her shows, the portal makes it easy and convenient to have the option to play. It’s a win-win for gamers like me!

Nice but left me wanting more. Features that would make it perfect: Bluetooth, if it had its own games (I would pay extra for this feature), the ablitiy to watch movies/youtube, maybe standalone apps can be added in the future.
