Sick System
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was on the fence about this one since you can’t play without WiFi and can only play whatever disc that is in the PS5. I’m old school and I like having the physical disc as opposed to buying digital cause you cant sell a digital game like you can the disc version. I opened the box and was blown away at how beautiful and how big the screen is. The controls fit perfectly in your hands unlike the switch. The battery life is really good. The graphics are amazing and I didn’t really see any lag while playing as llong as you have a good WiFi connection. The $200 price is not that bad for what you’re getting. I definitely recommend buying a case for it. The portal controls take over your PS5. I know video games are going towards all digital in the future so my physical games are gonna be obsolete some day so now that I have the Portal it has changed my mind and Im going to start buying digital games because this thing is so awesome. With all that being said I definitely recommend getting one, you wont be disappointed!

Excellent Device for Playstation Owners
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PlayStation Portal is an Excellent Device for Remote play. The Ergonomics on it allow for a great long play experience. The key to it is having a good networking environment at home, having a good router and a wired PlayStation is the optimal way for it to work well for your needs. It has a long battery life and great looking screen. It’s a great addition for people who want to have a simplified remote play experience at home or even depending on where you are with decent WiFi you can play outside of the home as well. The biggest cons for it are the lack of bluetooth which is due to some inherent latency issues, vs using their official devices. But your mileage may vary if you use a 3.5mm to Bluetooth adapter. You can also use wired headphones with it. Overall if you are someone who wants to play while your tv is in use, or just to play on the couch or elsewhere in the house vs being front of the tv or monitor its a great device. I recommend considering your use cases for the device. There are various options you do have that may be cheaper or cost more with some sacrifice to ergonomics or convenience. You can go for a backbone for 100 dollars paired to your phone but then you may have interruptions to your gaming session. You can go for a tablet with a dualsense controller but you may have limited seating positions while playing, and also have certain interruptions on the device. You can go for some of the other cloud devices that may do more but cost at least 50-100 dollars more or way higher if you go for a PC handheld and there are tradeoffs on battery life, and screen size etc. Overall this is a great device that does as advertised and is a good option when you consider your use case for it.

Great peripheral for the price.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These were very hard to find in stock so I was very elated to finally get one. Out of the box the device looks and feels very sleek. It’s probably the most comfortable handheld gaming device I’ve ever held. If you like the the PS5 controller you’ll feel right at home. The screen is the perfect size and looks very vibrant. Be mindful of where you sit because it picks up alot of glare from lighting or the sun which makes it hard to see. The sound is very ample and there is a 3.5mm headphone jack. The one thing I noticed was when I first started playing a game, it seemed the there was some latency. I have very fast internet at home, but for some reason the games weren’t running as well as I thought they should. So I went online and saw that there was a tip of unplugging the hdmi cable from your PS5 when playing the PS Portal. Make sure to unplug it before you turn on the ps5 from the portal. To my surprise it worked and the Portal was running games great. The solution is kind of a nuisance, but did not ruin the experience. Overall, this is not the Playstation portable experience we’ve all been waiting for like a new PSVita, but if you own a PS5, I think this is a peripheral that while not essential, is very enjoyable, practical, and complimentary device for the system. For the price i’m very satisfied with it.

Playstation Portal!!!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PlayStation Portal is Sony's innovative response to the expanding market for portable gaming, targeted at providing a high-fidelity gaming experience on the go, directly competing with devices like the Nintendo Switch. Here's a detailed review of the PlayStation Portal, breaking down its design, performance, game library, and overall user experience. ### Design and Build Quality The PlayStation Portal features a sleek and ergonomic design that seems to prioritize comfort and durability. Its chassis is sturdy, likely made from a high-grade plastic with a matte finish that not only feels good in the hands but also minimizes fingerprints and smudges. The device boasts a large, vibrant screen that delivers crisp visuals, enhancing the immersive experience of high-resolution games. Button placement is thoughtful, with controls that feel responsive and are intuitively laid out, similar to a traditional PlayStation controller. ### Performance and Battery Life Under the hood, the PlayStation Portal is powered by a custom chipset capable of delivering near-console-level performance. This allows it to run more graphically intensive games that are usually reserved for home consoles. Load times are impressively short, and the gameplay is smooth, with consistent frame rates even in more demanding titles. Battery life, however, is a mixed bag. While Sony claims up to 8 hours of playtime, real-world usage tends to be closer to 5-6 hours when playing more intensive games, which is decent but may not suffice for long commutes or travel without access to a charger. ### Game Library and Compatibility One of the strongest selling points of the PlayStation Portal is its game library. It not only supports a vast array of new titles specifically designed for the device but also offers compatibility with a significant number of PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 games. This backward compatibility is a massive win for users who have already invested in PlayStation's ecosystem. Moreover, Sony has ensured that the Portal integrates seamlessly with the PlayStation Network for multiplayer gaming, digital downloads, and streaming services, making it a versatile device for all kinds of entertainment. ### Connectivity and Additional Features The PlayStation Portal includes various connectivity options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and optional 4G or 5G capabilities. This ensures players can stay connected for multiplayer games and can also stream games from their console at home, leveraging Sony's Remote Play feature. The device also sports additional features like a built-in microphone, stereo speakers, and a headphone jack, enhancing the audio experience for both multiplayer communication and solo play. ### Price and Availability The pricing of the PlayStation Portal is competitive, considering its features and capabilities. It's positioned as a premium device but offers good value given its extensive library and high-end gaming potential. ### Conclusion Overall, the PlayStation Portal stands out as a powerful portable gaming device that successfully bridges the gap between handheld play and console experience. Its ergonomic design, robust game library, and solid performance make it a compelling choice for gamers looking to take their favorite games on the road. While battery life could be better and the price point may be steep for some, the PlayStation Portal delivers an unmatched portable gaming experience that could well justify the investment for serious gamers.

How can it be so light?
|Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So lets start with design. The feel in your hand is comfortable only draw back is joysticks feel small. I can not belive the resolution on the screen thats same if not bigger then an Ipad mini. Battery life is amazing to be able to search for wifi and brodcast in that resolution. The connection does get lost but not to often. Once you set it up it will be your new addiction.

Perfect way to enjoy PS5 on the couch.
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had the PS Portal for quite some time now and finally decided to share my thoughts on the device. At first, I didn't think I'd be much of a fan of it. Probably used every now and then but it's quickly become more of a preferred way of gaming for me. Comfort (5/5) This thing feels great in the hand, just like many others have said, it feels like like a bigger PS5 controller which is great. Probably the best handheld for ergonomics to use compared to something like a Steam Deck or Legion Go. I have zero issues using this for hour plus play sessions. Screen (4/5) It's no OLED display but for a standard LCD screen it does the job. Screen size obviously being the main factor but it does get decently bright and I have no issues with it. My main use case scenario is indoors so I can't really comment on outside use. Sound (3/5) Not much to say here about the speakers but they're just decent as you'd expect. The lack of Bluetooth support though for other headphones outside of Sony's offering is definitely a bummer though. Connectivity (4/5) For this, I feel like YMMV but for me it works well. Using the Orbi WiFi 6E mesh router setup with symmetrical gigabit fiber internet, PS5 hardwired to the router and I get zero stutters or image quality reduction during play. I've tried it a few time on 5G LTE mobile hotspot and performance is a hit or miss depending on your reception. I wouldn't say it's ideal. Enjoyment (5/5) I would say the main use case scenario for this is being able to play PS5 content in any room of your house. I think it's a joy to be able to play while on the couch watching a sports game, in bed relaxing or sitting in the office kicking back. This is definitely the type of use it was intended for and it wins in this area. Overall, if you like gaming in comfort at home then I'd say this is probably for you. Outside of that it might vary as I don't intend on taking this on the go. If there is one drawback to this device then for me it's definitely the lack of Bluetooth support. I'd like to use my own earbuds as they most definitely sound better than the proprietary earbuds offered but the speakers do just fine for me.

My honest opinion
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my own review as a normal consumer. From the moment this was announced, I had no interest in it. I already own a Ps Vita and love it, but I wanted to be able to play my PlayStation anywhere, anytime. I couldn’t get to stream it on my Vita so the portal begun to make more sense to me and my needs. After watching so many reviews, good and bad, I decided to pre order it but ended up cancelling it. They release it and more reviews came in, a good mix of it, everyone was worry about using cellular and how good would it be not being close enough of the console. I decided to still get one but it was too late, it was sold out everywhere and scalpers were re selling for $500 bucks so I waited it out using HotStock and managed to get one off BB, and my first impression was, “wow this feels good”, plus the screen is amazing. It feels like a portal PlayStation, especially with the dual sense triggers, and feedback. Connection wise was a bit weird at first but I managed to connect to my 5G internet, and made sure my PlayStation was connected to the same network, also tried LAN and works but it kept getting disconnected for some reason, possibly my Ethernet cable is bad but I decided to go back to WiFi and once I connected both to the same network, I haven’t had any issues. I also learn to unplug the hdmi off my monitor and made my experience so much better. I have also tried using my hotspot on my phone, it works just the same, it starts a little slower but it smooths up as it goes on. It also depends how fast of a hotspot you have and if your phone isn’t downloading anything. I stopped playing multiplayer games so I have no experience on it aside playing Cold War zombies which works great. I mainly play the show 23, and single players. I recommend this to anyone interested in playing their PlayStation anywhere, anyplace, AS LONG you have a decent connection. That’s my honest opinion. I wouldn’t give up on a scalper but if you’re truly desperate to get one, I still wouldn’t. Sony will bring more in stock, just gotta keep waiting it out. Scalpers already losing money, they’re dropping prices down to $250.

It ain’t McDonald’s but I’m lovin it!
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Awesome handheld device! It’s a convenient way to play my ps5 away from where it’s placed as long as there’s a WiFi connection. Comes in handy when I want to hop on while laying in bed or if the tv is already in use. Only downside is the need for a WiFi connection to work but other than that it definitely comes in clutch. Highly recommend

Fulfills its purpose...mostly.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off, I got this open box. It was a little dirty and the USB wire was missing. Once I cleaned it, it was in great condition. The device itself does what it was meant to do but not without its hiccups. The PS5 needs to be wired for a satisfying experience. Also, I had to do port forwarding in order to connect to it outside of my home. With that done, I still occasionally have PS5 connection issues. It's usually remedied by disconnecting and reconnecting the Portal or manually starting up the PS5 (which kinda defeats the purpose of remote play). In the end, I'm happy with it. I'm actually playing more of my PS+ games library due to this thing. I see that as a win.

PS Portal .. BUY IT!!!!!!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Best 200 dollar I have spent so far . I have used it from different homes and as long as you got good WiFi it will work great. I use it for when I don’t want to get out of bed , and my wife is sleeping next to me . Pair it to head phones and play . Also i use it to play it on the go. I was able to even play Fortnite on it because of how smooth it runs . However it’s complicated to get a lot of kills due to the screen size . But for story games it’s perfect . I’ve been playing Elden Ring non stop on it Built quality : It’s premium. It feels like a very expensive handheld from the smoothness of the fabric to the weight of the Portal everything is perfect . Comfort: It literally feels like you’re holding the PlayStation controller but with more weight which makes it feel even better . Built in speakers : They are pretty loud . Not so loud that the sound is distorted. Just a prefect balance. Screen quality : 10/10 the screen looks vibrant and the colors looked well toned . Also I have played outside in the back porch in a well lit area and you can see pretty the screeb pretty well . I could not be happier with a purchase from Sony . Recommend 100 percent .

The Backbone killer that was made for Dads
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are a dad who shares the TV you game on with your kids/wife; this is a must. If you don’t want to constantly have to be sitting in front of your tv and monitor to play your PS5 game and want to lay in bed or play on the couch, then it is also a must. I can’t begin to say how awesome having the PlayStation Portal has been, my backlog of games are starting to get played, I’m enjoying my time playing now because I can pick it up at any time to continue where I left of and not worry about my wife giving me that look like I’m about to go in the other room and be by myself. It’s feel so play more and enjoy playing more with this device. I have had a backbone to do essentially the same thing however it is very small and hurts my hand after a while if you have bigger hands like me and if you are someone that has one this is 100% better in every way. You have the dual sense controllers which are great, along with all the haptic feedback, and adaptive triggers the controller has to offer. Plus that 8 inch LCD screen almost looks like an Oled and it is beautiful to play on. I can’t recommend this product enough if you are in the fence or already have a backbone and looking to upgrade

Perfect for my needs
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I belong to a specific demographic that stands to gain the most from this product. It's important to acknowledge that this device may not appeal to everyone, primarily because the Portal serves a singular purpose: remote PlayStation 5 (PS5) gaming. This means it's only useful if you already own a PS5. As someone who predominantly plays games during nighttime hours and needs to be considerate of my sleeping spouse, the Portal fits seamlessly into my gaming routine. The Portal's ergonomic design closely resembles the comfortable feel of the DualSense controller. Its screen boasts vibrant brightness and objectively offers a more visually pleasing gaming experience than my smartphone. In terms of performance, I haven't encountered any significant latency issues while using the device. Although occasional hiccups do occur, they are infrequent and haven't hindered my gaming experience. It's worth noting that I use this device in conjunction with Ubiquiti 6 Enterprise Access Points for reference. In all honesty, my search was for a device that would allow me to play my games when the TV is occupied or when I wish to avoid disturbing my family, and the Portal accomplishes this admirably. I even put it to the test on hotel Wi-Fi, and it performed exceptionally well. I was able to enjoy a significant portion of Spider-Man 2 using the Portal, and it didn't feel like I was compromising the gaming experience. Here are some areas where I believe there's room for improvement: - The ability to stream PlayStation Plus games. - Incorporating an OLED and HDR screen for enhanced visual quality. - Offering 1440p or 4K streaming options. On the downside, there are a couple of aspects I didn't like: - The absence of Bluetooth connectivity. - The inability to replace thumbsticks.

A-Mazing….If you can get your hands on one.
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was totally on the fence at first but the hype around it sucked me in. Thanks everyone! I will say it’s probably not for everyone, but like they say if your PS5 is hooked up to a family tv that’s being used that’s where the Portal comes in. For me I really don’t have that issue. I work from home downstairs and my PS5 is upstairs. So if I can sneak in a few GTA V online missions while at work is a win win. I haven’t run into any battery issues at all. It seems to have great battery life to me. I think I had 2 connection issues but otherwise that’s it. I really have no complaints. I mean we all wish it could do more but it is what it is. The one downside is you can only play whatever game disc is inside of your PS5 at the time. If all of your games are digital you wont have that problem, and I don’t think you can play the streamable PS Plus games either. So if you don’t always have access to your tv, possibly want to play in bed, or just want something a little more intimate vs playing on whatever size flatscreen tv you have, than the PS Portal may be for you!

||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Absolutely love this thing. I’m so happy with my purchase. I was a little upset when I first got it because it was virtually unplayable. It kept skipping and I have pretty fast internet, so I wasn’t sure what was going on. I went on Reddit and everyone provided suggestions and the 1 suggestion that worked is having my PS5 hardwired to the router. I tried that and it was night and day. The Portal worked perfectly and now i can use it anywhere in my house and it’s amazing! The screen is huge and the dual sense controllers are incredibly comfortable. Highly recommend!

Great companion with a PS5
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I can’t believe how much I love this thing. I happen to be 1500 miles away from my PS5, getting to be able to play it like it’s in the other room. We do struggle bit with the Internet speed but when my speed is fine. The picture is very clear is very comfortable to hold I love the adaptive triggers. Taking this on the go is awesome. My biggest wish would be to be able to download some of my non-Internet playing games on the go. Maybe have them sink once you get back to Internet.

Stellar. Absolutely freaking stellar.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have so many good things to say about the Portal. I genuinely love it. For a handheld the graphics are fantastic. Most importantly, you can get your game on literally anywhere with wifi, which is basically everywhere these days. It feels great in your hand, the sound quality isn't perfect but you would be ridiculous to think it should be in a handheld. Easily worth the price, as a matter of fact you are getting a great value deal for $200. Buy it, seriously. You are doing a disservice to your gaming self and DEMOCRACY if you don't!!!

Almost perfect! It’s amazing for what it does!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love the device. The screen size is percect for the device, not too big and bulky and anything smaller wouldnt show as nicely. The screen is a little dim compared to other portables like the SD OLED or the Switch OLED but it works if you’re playing at home like it’s meant to be played. The screen is beautiful for a basic IPS LED and the sound is really good for the what it is. The ability to be in a party also without needing headphones with this device is nice as its louder than the regular PS controller so if you don’t have the Explore or Elite headset, you can still have conversations without issue. I’ll touch back on that in a moment as that’s part of why it’s a con. The controls feel great, the vibration and adaptive triggers are amazing for a mobile device, even more so than I expected. There are some cons to this device. The fact that they disabled bluetooth and require proprietary technology to listen and talk on it is a little ridiculous, especially given the insane price of the explore earbuds (the same price as this accessory). If the earbuds were half the price, I wouldn’t mind so much. But that really detracts since they’re uncomfortable to begin with and you require changing the eartips out almost immediately with third party ones. Another little gripe of mine is the smaller joycon style thumbsticks. It’s nice that it’s easier to fit into a bag but most people who are using this device probably aren’t taking this mobile, as I’ve tried that with mine which is wired to the router at 940 Mbps and still had issues outside of the home. Granted it was on a 5G UW hotspot but it kept disconnecting rather than just latency so I ended up not even trying anymore. I also wanted to watch some of the entertainment apps from the PS but they were disabled for remote play, so don’t expect to watch movies from this. As for the middle button/touchpad from the Dualshock 4 and DualSense controllers, its a big finicky to learn it when playing a game that requires fast movement. You gave to double tap the middle screen in a specific spot very rapidly for it to register and for a game that is PvP it isn’t something I would recommend. But overall for regular playing and for even games like Elden Ring, Like A Dragon, or Spider-Man 2 this is an amazing addition if you aren’t near your TV or have something else on at the time. I would give this a 9/10 for it’s quality and would recommend to anyone with the cash to spend on it if they don’t already have a remote play phone with gamepad like the Backbone or Kishi V2. Even then, I’d still say this has some promise those don’t for remote playing. If you are on the fence about it and like to remote play PC/Steam games, Xbox games, or even PS games from your phone but want a solid device? This is it. Also if you think the Chiaki4Deck is as good and steady even with a wired connection for the SD, think again. I love using my SDs for many things but when it comes to remote playing the PlayStation? There’s too many bugs out there which cause complete game crashes, app crashes, and I wouldn’t recommend that until it gets solved. That being said, rejoice handheld gamers! We have another device for our collection! It’s not quite a Vita but something inbetween so its just enough to be there but you will enjoy it for what it does and what it is.

Portal not Portable - but Acceptable.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall solid device. Haven't put it through the gauntlet of fighting games but the experience was smooth on a 5GHz wireless connection so I would say performance is great. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because to make it a truly portable console you need an Ultimate PS subscription. Otherwise, you are pretty much just taking up a user slot on your PS5. I was thinking this would be useful to have my daughter play Minecraft on the Portal while I use the PS5 to play more intensive games but its essentially just a streaming device so I was better off getting her a switch or a tablet for the same price. Also, as nice as the screen is, the resolution and framrate of ps5 games are just not meant to be crammed into such a tiny display. However, being able to take it anywhere with a stable internet connection is definitely a plus. All the more reason to have a digital library so youre not anchored to whatever disc is currently loaded to your ps5. Solid choice, would only have suggested the ability to play one game offline (for those long airport flights) even if it would require the occasional reauthetication with your PS5 periodically to keep it active. Then it would get 5 stars!
