Sound quality very low. Could not enjoy at the highest volume level on any content.
Thank you for reaching out to us with your concern. We regret to hear if you find the volume of the rear speaker not as loud as you would have liked and it hasn't performed to your standards. Allow us to help you and turn your experience around. If the audio coming through is low or you are not hearing any audio from the wireless rear speakers for the speaker system, there are a couple of items that will need to be checked:
• The Rear speaker plays surround sound as part of the multi-channel sound or processed from the 2-channel sound. However, because of the characteristics of the rear speaker, the sound may be low depending on the playback source. • Depending on the combination of the setting of SOUND FIELD and input signal, surround sound processing may not work effectively. The surround effect may be subtle, depending on the program or disc. • Set the night mode to off then check the wireless connection status in [Settings] - [Wireless Speaker Settings] - [Wireless speaker status check] on the app screen. • Make sure to run Sound Field Optimization so that the audio system can calibrate its performance to your environment, and that it sounds like it was engineered to be in your room.

These speakers don’t put out much sound at all. I have all Sony equipment and these speakers are the most inefficient, and I’m happy with everything else.
Hi RogerB, Thank you for your time writing this review. We're sorry to hear the issues that you are experiencing with your SARS3S speaker. Allow us to help troubleshoot the problem. Please try some solutions below if no sound is heard from the rear speakers:
Make sure the AC power cord (mains lead) of the rear speaker is connected properly. - If the power indicator on the rear speaker does not light, try the following. – Press (power) of the rear speaker to turn on the power. If the power indicator on the rear speaker flashes slowly in green or lights in red, try the following. – Move the rear speaker to a location near a compatible model so that the power indicator on the rear speaker lights in green. – Follow the steps in “If the Connection is not Established Automatically.” https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/res/manuals/5011/25ba7aa1f75e8d2cc5defccfee5539b4/50115271M.pdf – Check the wireless connection status. - If the power indicator on the rear speaker flashes in red, press (power) of the rear speaker to turn off the power and check whether the ventilation holes of the rear speaker is blocked or not. - Press REAR + on the remote control of a compatible model to increase the volume of the rear speakers. - If you change the [RF Channel] setting of a compatible model from [Off] to [On], it may take 1 minute for the sound to be output. - If the power indicator flashes in red, disconnect the AC power cord (mains lead) of the rear speaker from the AC outlet (mains) and reconnect it again.

They can hardly be heard and they have no sound that I want
Hi David, Thank you for reaching out to us. We're sorry to hear you feel that the sound quality did not meet your expectations with the SARS3S rear speakers. Depending on the input signal and the sound mode setting, surround sound processing may not work effectively. The surround effect may be subtle, depending on the program or disc. To ensure optimal surround sound effect, try setting the sound effect that is tailored to sound sources to a different Sound Mode option. Item didn't meet my need. Wouldn't pair with my system after being told it was compatible by Best buy. Had to return for refund.
We're sorry to hear about what happened and that the wireless rear speakers had to be returned. The SA-RS3S wireless rear speakers are designed to be paired with the Sony HT-A7000, HT-A5000, and HT-A3000 soundbars. It cannot connect with any other of our soundbars.
If you have the Sony Z9F soundbar, you can add the Sony Z9R as rears for the bar only. If you have the Sony NT5, CT790 or CT800 soundbar, you can use the Sony SRS- ZR5, ZR7 plug in rear speakers. You can also use the portable Sony SRS-HG1 for those 3 bars.

Wireless connection seems to be weak with a lot of cracking and static from wireless speakers. Spent hours troubleshooting and nothing improved sound quality.
We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues with the SA-RS3S making a popping, crackling or static sound. Certain factors may contribute to connectivity issues. To ensure sound is being output from both the speaker system and the optional rear speakers, press the IMMERSIVE AE to turn on the Immersive Audio Enhancement function, the speaker system upmixes audio signals, and sound is output from all speakers.
You can try to perform a factory reset on the soundbar then connect it to Wi-Fi and do software update on soundbar then connect SA-RS3S. This will also update software on the rear speakers and resolve the issue.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and we are sorry for the confusion. It appears that we have an incorrect information on the Best Buy website. Please refer to the size & weight information of the SA-RS3S below:
- Dimensions (w/h/d) (approx.): 100 mm × 187 mm × 100 mm (4 in × 7 3/8 in × 4 in) (projecting parts not included) - Mass (approx.): 1.1 kg (2 lb 7 oz)
We'll communicate to Best Buy to correct the dimensions of these wireless rear speakers on their website. We are sorry to hear that the wireless rear speakers had to be returned. We hope that you will shop Sony again in the future. Thanks again for sharing your feedback.

Good quality but no upward facing sound

Note that these rear speakers are being reviewed as part of the entire 7.1.2 channel speaker system including the HF-A7000 sound bar and SA-SW5 subwoofer.
If Star Trek’s holodeck existed, this would be the sound system they use. My previous system was the Sony HT-Z9F, and I wanted a new sound bar that had a more memorable model number. That and the fact that my old one was no longer reliable. Often, there would be a delay of 5 to 10 seconds before the sound would come through after turning on the TV.
The setup of the A7000 system is about as easy as it gets. The wireless rears and subwoofer connect automatically to the sound bar. Once that’s done, you can run an auto-configuration in which the sound bar will play some tones to measure the speaker placement. No more pulling out a tape measure to check distance, though you still can if you want.
I thought the sound of my old Z9F, however, was fantastic. But Sony has upped the sound quality even more in the A7000. The A7000 is a hefty sound bar and no doubt its size helps it create the enormous sound stage it produces. It has speakers that direct sound forward, upwards, as well as towards the side. And each of those speakers is engineered for hitting just the right acoustic. When connected to the wireless rear speakers and subwoofer, the result is a rich, full, sound the envelopes you. Watching UltraHD movies on Netflix, for example, makes you feel like you’re in the middle of the action.
Sony also has a setting called Immersive Audio Enhancement (AE) to “convert” regular audio as if it were 7.1.2. Initially I thought it would sound too artificial. Obviously if the source signal is not 7.1.2, the sound bar can’t actually direct sound to the correct location. But once I got used to Immersive AE’s simulation, turning it off made the sound noticeably less rich.
Like many sound bars, there is a separate volume setting to punch up the sound of voice. Whereas I had maxed out that setting on the Z9F, dialogue from the A7000 was perfectly discernible without needing to adjust the voice volume.
Though the speaker system aims squarely for watching movies and shows, its 360 Reality Audio implementation is also remarkable for music services that offer premium quality sound: Amazon Music HD (included with their Unlimited plan), Tidal and Nugs.net. Though these services sound great with headphones, hearing this quality of music in a room speaker system is liberating.
There are a couple of negatives, and for that, I’d really rate this as 4.5 stars. First, the rear spears sound great as expected, but they don’t fire upwards. Instead, they are standard configuration rears. Second, the 300W subwoofer is a beast and I can understand why it’s at additional cost. At the price point of the sound bar by itself, however, I think it would be a better value if Sony had at least included the 200W subwoofer, and perhaps the rear speakers as well.
In any case, this system delivers premium sound with ease of install and ease of use. The sound bar by itself will enhance any room. But the addition of the wireless rear and subwoofer speakers adds an amazing dimension not to be missed.
Hi panamared, We are sorry to hear that the SARS3S did not meet your expectations and had to return them. We hope that you consider Sony again in your future purchases.
Regards, Carl

Rear speakers that complete the set

I have to address the elephant in the room. Which is the price. The soundbar alone costs two times as much as my actual TV. But it's like putting a corvette engine in a beetle's body. Which means it can be done and has been done. In other words, the soundbar and it's components do to discriminate in making your TV better than it can be without a soundbar. Honestly, this is a true flag ship sound system that Sony has released here. I mean when I got the soundbar, it's almost as long as my 65 inch TV. To boot it's large and heavy because it's 11 speakers stuffed into this soundbar. The unboxing has everything you need including a high speed HDMI cable. The set up was simple as you can get. Connect to an ARC/eARC port on your TV and corresponding port on the soundbar and you are good to go! The different thing about this soundbar is that you can actually go into the settings on the TV. This will give you the place to go into the settings of the soundbar to connect to your favorite smart assistants being Alexa or Google. I opted for both but each will require a dedicated smart device to operate. My prior soundbar system had Alexa built in which was super convenient, even though I am a Google household rather than Alexa. The built in Alexa gave me more access to the Alexa ecosystem than just the app on my device, which was fun. However this does not have a built in smart assistant. Rather it has a built in chromecast, which is kind of weird to me. For me I know chromecast is a device to cast videos and audio, not just audio. It's not a bad thing ,but I do not see myself using this feature, because my TV has chromecast built in already. I would have preferred a built in smart assistant but that's ok, I have a few google speakers to perform this if I want it.
Now to the sound. It is robust and sounds great but having subwoofer in my old system, I had to test out the other components like the compatible subwoofer and rear speaker system. Install is easier than plug and play. It's just plug and place! All the components paired without me doing a thing. With everything connected, it felt like when Voltron forms from the 5 components, it just feels right. The bass from the subwoofer is nice and clear and precise, where the rear speakers bring in the rear and do give the true 360 experience that Sony advertises. Even the automatic setting to ensure the correct balance is done wirelessly and is done from it's speakers and microphones to calculate the best balance from each other. So of course, you will need to be not in the line of sound when you set this up. And because of this, there is not setting to equalize. It is done through the automatic setting in the app that can be viewed on your TV. It kind of reminds me of a projector menu but it works. In that setting, besides the assigning your preferred smart assistant, you can also set up Spotify that is paired with Alexa in a way. This way, is not a bad way by any means. It's just....let's say different,
In playing multiple formats of movies in ultra HD on Netflix to blasting music on Spotify, this system sings when everything is in sync with each other. I love the highs and bass when you need it and is not muddy with no distortion what so ever.
So would I recommend this product? in the instance of adding these rear speakers is basically a no-brainer in my opinion. I mean you are already spending that much on the system, the addition of the rear speakers are well worth the money and completes the circle, in a sense. I have used rear speakers in my prior system and I have to say I am mighty impressed with these.
Hi SonySARS3SWirelessSpeake, We regret to hear you are having an issue with your wireless rear speakers. This is definitely not the customer experience we want you to have. Please turn up the volume by pressing the Press REAR (volume) + on the remote control of a compatible model to increase the volume of the rear speakers. Make sure there is no obstacle between a compatible model and the rear speakers, move or remove the obstacle and place them close as possible. You can also turn off the unit, disconnect the AC power cord (mains lead) of the rear speaker from the AC outlet (mains) and reconnect it again to further isolate the issue.
If you are still having the same issue, you can email us at [email protected] with the following details:

Essential Add-On

In my view this is the most essential add-on you can get for this soundbar system.
Setup was super easy and I just unboxed them and the soundbar added them very quickly. I wasn't sure exactly how I was going to place these so I just plugged them next to the soundbar to connect them and placed them around my room later.
It was super easy to go back into the menu on the soundbar and get to the sound optimization menu. From there the system automatically set up the speakers, i think through a combination of the wireless signal detecting distance and a microphone on the soundbar. Either way I was up and ready to go without having to fiddle with all the settings necessary to make sure the sound worked right with speakers placed not necessarily in exactly uniform distances away from me.
Soundbars always try their best to mimic a true surround sound system with multiple speakers. Technology has really allowed them to get close, but they always fall flat with those quite, isolated little sounds that are supposed to come from behind you. These speakers fix that issue.
You can really hear everything coming from all around you with these speakers. I normally recommend people use a wired system instead of a sound bar, but the quality of both these speakers and the wireless connection to the soundbar are making me rethink that opinion. I tried my system out with just the sound bar and it wasn't even close to as good.
These speakers are great and I really would not consider getting the soundbar and this audio system without them.

When pairing the HT-A9 Subwoofer with the HT-A5000 Sounder and these speakers you will experience a home theater set up like no other. This was a MASSIVE upgrade that continuously has blown me away (all pun intended).
After learning that I had the opportunity to review this product, I immediately went to best buy to purchase a brand new Sony Bravia XR X90J TV which I used to review. Since this isn't a review for the TV I will just say this....the TV is amazing and I think you should go and buy it.
The unboxing experience/setup experience.
Unboxing the Rear Speakers was extremely easy and seamless to unbox. Everything was well packaged and organized. It took me roughly 5 minutes to unbox and plug/setup the Subwoofer with the soundbar and rear speakers. The thing that impressed me the most was actually how quickly all three paired up to my Sony Bravia TV. It immediately recognized all three and started the pairing process and spatial audio process. This was incredible to me and worked exceptionally well.
The Sound:
The rear speakers sound great and offer exactly what you would want from an Atmos setup. They sound good and just add to the quality of your listening experience. They are really essential to the setup.
Overall:
10/10
These are amazing...buy them.
I would give this product a 10/10. I really think it is THAT good.

These speakers are what really rounds out the whole surround setup. First of all, they could't be simpler to set up. You just plug the power cord in and that's it. The soundbar automatically finds them and connects. You can run the optimization on the soundbar to really get them dialed in, but it's all very simple. Of course, the best part abou wireless surround speakers is that, except for the power cord, there are no wires to run to a receiver or anything. That means no ungly wires running along your floor, or expensive installation to run them inside the walls. It's all very convenient. Whe it comes to sound quality, just like the rest of the system, they sound absolutely fantastic. They really complete the whole surround experience. I noticed it most while playing video games. I could hear the explosions and bullets flying all around me. It even gave me a bit of a competitive advantage, because in a game like Black Ops, where you can hear your enemy's footsteps, with a setup like this you can really pinpoint where the footsteps are coming from. Overall, these are really nice speakers that are a breeze to set up, and just complete the whole system.

If you want a true surround sound experience from your soundbar there is no other way than adding satellite speakers like these. I recently picked up a A5000 soundbar, and while it offered impressive performance out of the box with its 5.1.2ch configuration it couldn't entirely replicate something coming from behind you. Adding these was extremely easy, all I had to do was plug them in and turn on the soundbar they automatically paired and synced with my system. These can be wall mounted or stand mounted, or they have individual rubber feet if you decide to just set it on a table. These have been an awesome upgrade that has really improved the experience and sound quality of the system. I would absolutely recommend picking up a pair of these if you have a A5000 or A7000 soundbar.
Hi Alex, Thank you for the amazing review! We're very happy to hear you like the addition of these speakers to your A5000 soundbar. Take movies, shows, sports, and music to the next level by adding to your cinematic surround sound atmosphere. These rear speakers automatically connect to your HT-A7000 or HT-A5000 soundbar right out of the box, bringing crystal-clear, room-filling sound into any home theater environment. Thanks for choosing Sony! -Sam

Unbelievable sound!

The newest Sony sound bar, the HT-SA7000 is a 500 watt sound bar with 5 front speakers, 2 up-firing speakers, 2 directional tweeters, and dual subwoofers all in a sleek, attractive package that packs a punch!
Has optional (separate) sub-woofer and surround speakers which can be purchased but aren't necessary.
Sound bar has easy on screen set up instructions and utilizes a "sound optimization" feature which adapts the sound to your listening environment. The "up-firing" speakers reflect the sound off the ceiling, while the directional tweeters force sound outward to produce a sound that truly surrounds you.
The unit comes with 2 HDMI + HDMI EARC, a USB port, optical-in, and an "S-center" port for use with a Sony TV which uses the TV's speakers to become your center channel (I do not have a Sony TV but imagine that this feature would be cool). Although the SA7000 is a little pricey, it provides an impressive sound that easily fills any room.
Also includes voice control for use with Google or Alexa, and the blue-tooth allows you to pair it with your favorite music source, or you can "air play" directly to it.
I ran across a couple negatives but they are minor. Like may sound bars, this one is tall and since my TV is on its own stand, the sound bar obscures the remote sensors of my TV.I ended up putting it behind my TV which probably limits it somewhat but it is still very impressive. Of course, this wouldn't be an issue if your TV was wall-mounted or if you mount the sound bar on the wall using the included template and brackets.
I also receive my television signal "OTA" (over the air) paired with a Tivo. Unfortunately this created a delay issue between the audio and video where the mouths and voices do not match. I attempted to correct this in the TV (I have a Samsung) settings but this did not remedy the problem. The only solution I've found (so far) is to change the settings on the Tivo from Dolby to PCM. This took care of the sync issues but limits the Dolby options of the sound bar. If streaming directly through the TV, I do not have this sync issue. Maybe there is a better fix for this - I'll keep searching.
I paired the sound bar with the optional surround speakers which was a definite plus. The speakers do a great job of producing sound that really feels like it is beside/behind you. They truly "surround" you and make you feel like you are part of the action.
I also paired these with the optional SW5, which is a free-standing 300-watt subwoofer that will definitely thump. Alert the neighbors because this thing sounds incredible - just like a theatre minus the rumbling seats. It provides crisp, clear bass and really adds depth to the sound bar.
I tested out the "immersive AE" on a 20-year-old movie (Pearl Harbor) to see how it would respond and was blown away. Planes flying around sounded as good as a movie theatre.
The addition of the surround speakers and the subwoofer make this a superb system. The Sony SA7000 with subwoofer and surround speakers could possibly eliminate the need for an A/V receiver - it sounds that good!

These speakers are wonderful. The paired immediately to the soundbar and really made a huge difference in the overall surround experience. Highly recommend these!!!
We're thrilled to hear that pairing them with your soundbar was quick and easy, and that they made a significant difference in your overall surround sound experience. Our goal is always to deliver immersive and high-quality audio, and it's great to know that the SA-RS3S speakers are enhancing your home theater setup. Thank you for your fantastic recommendation; we couldn't be more pleased!
