A modern take on a classic

This is a "re-imagining" of Star Fox 64, so probably not the game for those seeking a new experience. However, it is not a carbon copy of SF64, so fans of that classic game will have plenty of surprises with Zero. The graphics are beautiful, and have that classic feel. The audio is equally as well done. The amiibo features (classic and black Arwings) add fun and challenge - but you can unlock these without the amiibo (in case you don't have them). There are some frame rate issues when there is a lot going on - but nothing game breaking (just noticeable). The game is a little short, but there is a solid replay value. The motion controls are solid. They do take time to get used to, but they are a powerful mechanic - once you get used to them. If you've played Splatoon, you know what to expect. Just keep focused, and learn to utilize your tools. I do wish there was a sensitivity adjustment so you can fine tune the motion controls, but once you are use to them, it's not a big deal. Oh, and the select button switches screens. Learn to use that, instead of worrying about looking back and forth between screens. All in all, a solid game. Not for everyone, but worth it for Star Fox fans.

Star Fox is really good... if you like Star Fox games. The controls are really tough to get used to but if you stick with it, it becomes natural. Not the best in the series but still a fun game.

After years of absence, this is the exciting return of Fox McCloud. Done by Nintendo and Platinum Games, the name of the game is aerial combat. The action is great and can get hectic in later levels. The game may be short but the replay value is what the series was always about. The only complaints I have about this game is that there is no Online Multiplayer and the controls take getting used to. There is no option to just use classic controls. If you're looking for some experience other than a True StarFox experience, than you might need to look elsewhere. For those who grew up on the series as I did who are looking to get back in an Arwing and light the skies on fire ala Starfox 64, then look no further! Welcome back, Fox!

Same storyline as the Starfox 64. The graphics matched my expectations. There are many different levels compared to Starfox 64 and also different vehicles/functions which makes the game interesting. I personally think the gamepad control does take away a bit from the gameplay. After several hours of the game, I still find myself glued to the gamepad. I enjoy looking at the TV screen more. Besides that, I think it's a good game. If handling the ship is too much, find a partner and try co-op mode.

When you first start playing, the dual screen controls will take some time getting used to.Then, they start getting easier as you finish the story mode. After that, there are medals to unlock on each level that range from high hit scores, collecting rings and tokens, and secret conditions. This gives a reason to keep playing after story mode. While trying to earn these medals, you will not only master each level, but master the controls in the process. This feels incredibly rewarding. Once the twelve story mode missions are complete, there are another eight bonus missions with there own medals that can be unlocked. Finding the secret paths that lead to these levels is amusing and each of these levels brings something new to the table, such as a one-on-one dogfight and mission that allows you to play as a different member of the Star Fox team. You can play any mission you want at any time when you beat story mode, so you do not have to play the entire game over and over in order to unlock them. If yoh do want to play the different paths than you can try out Arcade mode. In Arcade mode (Star Fox 64 Mode), you start at Corneria and take one of about twenty different paths to Venom. Each path can be viewed on the high score screen that also records your best score for each path. This mode adds a ton of repayability to the game. You are also able to save after each level, so you are not forced to finish the entire path in one sitting. This game features a few vehicles other than the traditional Arwing. There are training/challenge missions for each of these vehicles, such as the Landmaster, along with a brand new vehicle exclusive to this mode. These help with getting used to the controls of the secondary vehicles that aren't used as frequently as the Arwing. A second game, Star Fox Guard (a tower defense game that utilizes both screens), is included with this game for free, further increasing the value. Between all the nostalgia from past games, the controls that you grow to love and appreciate, and the surplus of content after Story mode, this game is not only one of the best titles in the series and on the Wii U, but one of the best games on any platform today. I would strongly recommend everyone play this game and master the controls until you start feeling that the your mission's accomplished.

I got this at a pretty good discount stacking GCU with a good sale, and I wouldn't recommend buying this without it. The maligned controls aren't nearly as bad as everyone says; my problems with it had much more to do with the style of the game. The designers went for a "movie-length" campaign, and I don't think that's nearly enough. Personally, replaying to go for a higher score doesn't draw my attention nearly as well as longer content. I get that there are people that like that arcade-style experience, and this is the game for them, but not so much for me. That being said, the short campaign was still fun, so at a low price it's worth it. The gameplay is great, and there are some really fun levels that draw me back in despite my trepidation. I haven't had a chance to play Guard, but I've heard good things, and it's nice to get multiple games packaged at a cheap price.

The Almost Return of Fox McCloud

This game returns to the familiar territory of the Lylat system. Many of the familiar enemies make a return in this adventure. The story of the game is average at best. The graphics and missions are mostly fun when you are flying. However, the controls are confusing. At times you don't know whether to look at the gamepad or look at your TV. The perspectives of each change how you control your ship and provide challenges of their own. It's even more complicated with the additional vehicles this game presents. There is so much potential for this game to be more, unfortunately it falls short of other Wii U titles.

The controls of this game are a little complicated out of the gate. You have to watch the TV to steer the ship and then use the game pad to aim while firing. It takes a bit to get used to, but I love that we get to use the motion sensor and the screen on the game pad. The multiplayer is... well, kinda broken. To play multiplayer, the one person steers the ship with a wiimote and nunchuck. The other person fires. Its a *real* PITA when you are in a dogfight. (The gunner will have a hard time shooting correctly when the pilot is flipping around trying to over maneuver the guy that you're trying to dog fight.) All in all, pretty good and I am still getting used to the controls, but it's fun enough that I'm still playing it.

This game is fun, no doubt. It offers challenge and fun with some beautiful graphics on most stages. Where it falters is in it's controls. Motion controls are forced and make most situations more difficult than they would be otherwise. Your ship is controlled in a normal way, but aiming is motion controlled, it feels off. The aiming can make a few situations easier, but normally add frustration to what can be a fun challenge. An option to change the control scheme would have been a very welcome addition. The split in control allows for a co-op experience where one player can pilot while the others plays a gunner. Overall fun but frustrating and difficult for the wrong reasons.

The new Star Fox Zero is a great game that plays off of nostalgia from the N64 game it is based on, Star Fox 64. The game is also only loosely based on the old game, so while all levels from the original are available they are not carbon copies of the levels you have played before. The biggest difference in this game is the use of motion controls. For some this is a deterrent from even trying the game. But, if you give them a try they are not that difficult to master. Basically you can fly around most of the time without even using them, but they come in very handy when needing to sharp shoot enemies quickly without needing to move the aiming reticle to the opposite side of the screen. Also gone is a mutiplayer battle mode from the past games. But this game does have a new two player co-op mode where player one uses the GamePad and controls the main blasters with motion and joystick aiming. The second player becomes the pilot and uses either a Wii U Pro controller or a Wii Remote with Nunchuck to navigate using a joystick and several buttons for different moves. The second player also has a basic blaster of their own. The other big addition are the new vehicles including a gryocopter and "chicken-walker". There are other new vehicles and upgrades to older vehicles like the Land Master, but they feel intuitive and are fun to pilot. The other thing bundled in this pack is a second game, Star Fox Guard where you defend in a tower defense style game, Slippy's uncle's mining operation. Robots attempt to invade the base disabling cameras and using other measures for defeating you. It's a fairly fun but not overly great game that is included at no additional cost.

Nintendo finally has brought back Fox McCloud and his crew to a new console on Wii U. Star Fox is back for the 1st time since the last game on Gamecube (2005) and most are upset based upon the new control scheme. I've played the game for a while and I'm getting used to the controls but I kind of wished they let you choose options on which control scheme would best suit the user for the game. It's great to see Star Fox back on an Nintendo console and here's hoping Nintendo never forgets Star Fox on their next console.

Good game, great graphics, a must have for all Star Fox fans! Its a very good rehash of Star Fox 64, plus more but still a great game. The Star Fox Guard game was a good bonus too. Probably not worth $60 but still a must play!

Like the look and sound of the game...Motion controls can be turned off for the most part...if the gamepad was what nintendo was going for this game is 2 years late...at this point nobody cares about gamepad features...they are done well but nobody cares...my true gripe is that there is No battle mode...and with the possibilities of one player flying and the other shooting like a wing man...they missed a huge opportunity with an online battle mode...huge miss on that end...all in all it's still worth playing

Playing Star Fox 64 in the past, we were excited for this new Star Fox release but the controls kept it from being 5 stars. The scenery of doing a barrel roll through these beautiful stages bring back many magical moments but having to keep looking down at the game pad to shoot makes it really difficult to take it all in. Luckily multiplayer solves this issue. If you enjoyed the nintendo cast of Star Fox, you'll surely enjoy the nostalgic feeling of coming back!

The game is visually appealing. The controls are annoying at times. The story is basically the same as starfox 64, which IS the better game of the two. It does have a good replay factor if you want to get all of the medallions and play all of the stages, two of them are unplayable unless challenges are accomplished. Its an overall good game but I should've waited until it was on sale.

If you look past the controls the game is great. Love that the game has a lot of replay value and plays a lot like Star Fox 64. Once a again the controls can take a long time to get used to but if you can figure it out somehow its enjoyable. Star Fox Guard on the other hand was a fun game to play. Its very basic but its fun to just shoot around even though it gets a little repetitive

Star Fox Returns For Wii U

Nintendo has finally made another Star Fox game for a Nintendo Console and the results are a mixed bag. The gameplay is fun but the controls take some getting used to, because the wii u gamepad is the controller you can use to play this game. It's essentially a two screen experience but can be difficult to navigate during intense moments. A traditional Pro Controller setup would have been nice, but nonetheless this should satisfy most Star Fox fans.
