I purchased the TV from bestbuy.com when they were running a great sale. I also purchased the 2-yr Geek Squad protection plan. This review addresses both.
After less than a year, I started having issues with the TV. The volume would go to max as soon as I turned the TV on. I was unable to do anything on the TV such as change channels, reduce the volume, etc. This was the case regardless of whether I was using the remote control or the control buttons on the TV.
I brought the TV to the Geek Squad service center for repair, and was told about a week later that they would replace the TV rather than repair it. Even though I informed them that Best Buy does not keep these TVs in stock, I was told that I would that I had to got to a store to process the replacement. I drove 1/2 and hour to the closest Best Buy and was told by the manager that since the replacement price of the TV was greater than what I paid, they would only refund me what I originally paid. This only covered the price of the TV plus sales tax. The price of the worthless Geek Squad protection wasn't refunded.
Now I realize that the original price was a great deal. It's one of the main reasons why I decided to make the purchase. What's the point of having a sale on a product if your intent is to make us pay the different if we need to exchange it due to a product defect?
