The game is very colorful and action packed. Lots of eye candy. The story is a little crazy, but that's what is supposed to be. A great game to add to the Xbox one collection.

Nice game for quick pick up and play. Meaning if I've got 10-15 mins to kill this is a good game to pop in and not get to bogged down by cutscenes and story. Fast paced action and just dumb fun.

This game is awesome! A Must Have for any Xbox One owner. It's a kick-butt, take names, fast pace shooter that combines some of the best movement, amped-up explosions, outrageous weapons, and over-the-top humor I've seen in a video game yet. It's vibrant artistic design and inviting open world keeps things fresh. The game wants you to keep having FUN…and more than exceeds in doing so. Their is virtually nothing to not like in Sunset City…so what are you waiting for!? Go out and get the game already!!

Excellent game. Once you get used to traversing the city it only gets better. The game never takes itself too seriously and that is a great thing. It is fun and hilarious throughout. Though the mission structure is pretty basic, there was never a moment where I was not having fun. Its a literal blast

Sunset Overdrive is, above everything, an amazing gaming experience. A gameplay-driven, stylistic adventure in the fictional Sunset City offers some of the most well-rounded traversal in a game I've ever played. Once you catch on to the different controls and properly learn how to get from A to B, the game really opens up and the experience gets that much better. Let's put it this way: I wish Assassin's Creed's free-running and traversal was this good.
There's really nothing in the way of a story here. Your character is working janitorial services at the launch of an energy drink. Said energy drink (Overdrive) was botched at production and turned anyone and everyone who consumed it into a mutated, zombie-esque freak. Yep. It's intentionally over-the-top and that's not necessarily a bad thing, but the game goes one step further with breaking the fourth wall regularly and openly referring to itself as a video game. Early in the game, this is refreshing because we've all played overly serious games and this is not that. It almost shamelessly rips off Borderlands' style of humor, with freeze frame cut-ins for boss battles or when new characters are introduced. Once you get halfway through the game, hearing your nameless character constantly reference the ins and outs of his own video game gets old. I appreciate the gameplay heavy, narrative light approach with Sunset Overdrive but Insomniac went just a tad too far here.
Does the overbearing humor make the game less fun? Not really. The gameplay is THAT good. It's almost like Insomniac knew they had a hit on a gameplay level and decided to insert random jokes into the outline of an actual story. And that's ok. Because Sunset Overdrive is one of the funnest games I've played in a long time. Some of the story missions get a bit tedious (I'm looking at you trash boat) but overall I was so invested in the experience because of how fine-tuned the controls were. Grinding around on wires and shooting ridiculous weapons at energy drink infused monsters is just good fun for the whole family.
Sunset Overdrive is one of the best games on Xbox One right now and demands to be played. If you can get past the try-hard humor then you'll find yourself flying around the city and having a blast. There's a fast travel system in the game but traversal is so fun in this game I rarely used it.
Buy this game, play this game, love this game. Just don't drink the Overcharge.

The Best Xbox One Game

Sunset Overdrive is my favorite Xbox One game to date. It was really the fresh experience that a lot of gamers were looking for. The gameplay was great, the controls were great, and the story was intriguing.
I think everything just felt right with this game. Take one example of collectibles in game. A lot of times collectibles are just tied to an achievement and are tedious to go for. Sunset Overdrive takes a different approach and uses collectibles as currency to upgrade your character.
That example is just the first layer. Movement is amazing, gun variety is amazing, Insomniac just went above and beyond with Sunset Overdrive.
I really can't wait for a sequel if Insomniac decides to go down that route. I will say if you own an Xbox One and you don't own or haven't played Sunset Overdrive you are doing a disservice to yourself.

Satirical, 4th-wall breaking madness

Sunset Overdrive was a bit of a mystery when it was showcased at E3 and various other conferences/shows. Coming from the makers of the superbly entertaining Ratchet and Clank games as well as the Resistance series, both PlayStation staples for many years, the studio's pedigree was in no way worrisome. However, how might they approach and exclusivity deal for a new IP with Microsoft? The answer, now that the game has been out a while and garnered numerous Game of the Year nominations, is abundantly clear.
Take the excellent third person combat mechanics seen across the Ratchet and Clank titles, dial up the wacky-ness and 4th-wall breaking satire to 11, and splash a vibrant coat of paint across various post-apocalyptic tropes, and you have Sunset Overdrive.
The humor and style oozing from the game is a blast and very well-written, albeit perhaps more ADHD and/or juvenile-infused at times than some may care for. Said humor also serves as a hilarious commentary on video games themselves, along with their various strengths, and weaknesses.
What stands out to me the most, however, is just how enjoyable character customization is as well as general traversal. The sheer variety you can enjoy in terms of aesthetic and play style customization is sublime, and the game rewards you for playing the way you want to play. Various guns and abilities level up the more you use them, and not once have I felt somehow penalized or stunted in my enjoyment of the game for not exploring weapons and/or abilities that don't hold as much appeal to me.
While the initial learning curve for mastering the controls and general feel/rhythm of movement and traversal is slightly steep, in my opinion, once you have it down reasonably pat, just getting from point A to point B in Sunset City massive landscape is a blast in and of itself, feeling both efficient and kinetic in a fun, fast-paced way. Being able to use most any aspect of the environment to aid your movement as you flip, spin, grind, wall-run, bounce, and blast around the city adds its own layer of depth and enjoyable strategy to how you approach both movement in general and combat as well, in combination with the game's large arsenal of course.
The graphical quality, art design, and quality of voice-acting are all spot-on for the most part in capturing the irreverent and energetic mood Insomniac is seeking to convey in this game, and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. You can play for 30 minutes or 3 hours and still enjoy yourself while still feeling like that game is respecting your time and progress. This is a must-own exclusive title for the Xbox One :-D

In a world of games that all take themselves so seriously this game stands out as just plain good old-fashioned fun. The humor style of this game is very tongue-in-cheek. The game is very meta-aware. The characters themselves knowing it's a game. The visuals are bright, colorful and engaging. A real steal and worth buying now that it's half of its original price, $30. Definitely worth checking out if you want to try something fun and different.. Although, it does remind me of infamous, prototype and a few other games.

Fun, crazy, and fanatical shooter that is a real joy to play. Just jump in and go crazy. Also on a important side note is that you can turn off the gore and language which is a plus for anyone with children who want to play. I am still baffled as to why more developers do not offer this option. They are limiting their sales.

I bought this game for my kids. It has very strong language so we had to turn off the foul language. I'm glad it had that feature.
It's very fun, has a good story, has awesome boss battles, and above all the graphics are amazing!! This is truly a next gen game in our opinion.

At first, I didn't really like this game. The movement mechanics took a while to get used to. Once I became accustomed to them, however, I was hooked. The story is short yet fun, the game NEVER takes itself seriously, and the combat it fluid. Each weapon is unique and a blast to use!
The achievements are pretty standard. Keep in mind that there is A LOT of collectables in this game. You can buy maps to locate each one, so finding them all won't be hard, but it will take a good amount of time.
This game is definitely worth owning in your Xbox One library.

I have to say this is a great exclusive. The game is great, very smooth functionality, the controls are easy and world traversal is just all around fun! It has that great vibrant color scheme and the playfulness they have with the kill animations is great. Its also tame enough for little kids as well, just make sure to turn the language settings to a more adolescent setting, which I thought was a good feature. Otherwise the dialogue is witty, the game is beautiful and fun, and the guns unique. Takes the RPG shooter in a fun direction.
