It is a good cheap tv. But the cheap cost of the TV seems to come at the cost of quality control of the tv panel. I got a panel with a huge burned pixels on the edge. All i can say is you get what you pay for!

Great TV for Amazing Price

I have had the TCL 55" Class 6-Series MinI-LED QLED for over a year now. I was very skeptical about this TV at first as I am accustomed to larger brands such as LG, Sony, and Samsung. Let me start off by saying I have been above and beyond satisfied with this television since the first day I had it hooked up.
The picture quality is fantastic. The colors are very accurate and look great in both dark and with a lot of light. Dark scenes look amazing with nice, deep blacks. Black levels are not perfect, but only OLEDs can achieve nice, dark inky black levels. All sorts of content such as decades-old movies, current 4K films, and cartoons all look great. Gaming is also fantastic as this TV has a port to support up to 120hz which is great for all current generation consoles (PS5, XBOX Series X/S).
I eventually added a sound bar to this TV, but for the first few days, I used the television speakers. I was pleasantly surprised by how well the speakers for this unit sounded and performed. I could barely turn this tv up past 1/3 of the volume because of how loud and clear it was. The speakers also had a nice bit of bass. Not perfect of course, but great for built-in television speakers.
Overall, I HIGHLY recommend this product for anyone looking for a high-end TV that does not come with the high price of competitor brands.

Excellent value for the money at this price point

Have had the tv for about a month now as a secondary TV in the bedroom. My primary TV is an LG CX OLED. Is the TCL as good as that? Absolutely not, and it’s not supposed to be and it’s not meant to compete with it. Feature wise and performance wise this is an excellent TV for the money. Definitely gets bright enough and the software, while occasionally janky is pretty decent. I have no complaints at all for what I paid for it, I could have spent the same on an higher brand and got less for my money. After doing some adjustments to the picture settings, it’s a pretty good tv. Definitely recommend for those looking for a good all around budget friendly tv that play games and stream 4k content. Ive used it for some current gen Xbox gaming and 4k streaming and it’s done great for what it is. It definitely punches above its weight and I’m glad I bought it. I will emphasize I wholly recommend finding some calibration settings such as on RTINGS and employing them because the out of the box calibration was pretty bad which seems to be the norm on TCL devices. Still worthy to me as a 5-Star at this price point though, I don’t think you could do much better for what you’ll pay for this one.

Awesome tv in 2023/2024. Horrible online service.

This 120Hz VRR mini-LED TV is great. It is better than the Hisense U8H and TCL Q7 (2023) and similar to the Hisense U7K / U8K as well as the TCL QM8 in terms of picture quality. Blacks arent as deep as the QM8 which I also own, but they are very close. One issue with mine is a weird electric sound when brightness is set to very low as well as local contrast set to high. Current work around is to just set local contrast to low (very similar image to high) and not use low brightness. However I am just going to get mine serviced through TCL instead of going through the hassle with Best Buy again. Now for the review of my buying experience. I bought the TV weeks ago in December and had to schedule an at home delivery. 5 times, on the day of delivery my delivery would SILENTLY be cancelled by GeekSquad, causing me to take time off 5 times with no update, just a forced reschedule on the website. I would wait almost a week, get to the date, then see my delivery needs scheduling. I decided to just call Best Buy instead and I was GUARANTEED that it would arrive on my next scheduling date. Then it happened again and I was told “oh this is just because of it being backordered.” When getting help online, they tried to sell me a TV 2x more expensive and ACCIDENTALLY completely canceled my order without my concent. I thought a home delivery would be more convenient, boy was i wrong. I then moved money around to re-order it again to a pickup location that stated it would be available in the coming week, talked to an associate and was told i had nothing to worry about (which made me worry). Luckily i saw one available 20 miles away and jumped on it, and right after that one was purchased none of the other stores or warehouses stated they were getting more anymore. If I didn’t do that, it would have been another week plus before i heard anything, only to see my order can’t be fulfilled anymore. Its as if they lie about delivery and availability / expected availability. Anyways, i love the TV, and i buy from Best Buy regulerly. In store purchases have always been fine, but i am never scheduling a delivery ever again. Was one of the worst customer service experiences of my life. Costed lots of time, and they never compensated me in any way or helped me, but instead just cancelled my order almost a month after it was made then “suggested” i pay another $400 for a different tv after briefly appologizing.

Steal for $400 dale price!

I got the 55S546 last year at BB for the $200 deal at BF and it was a steal so when I saw the 55R646 for $400 I had to get it and it's also a steal for the price, I haven't had any major glitches or problems with the OS which was the biggest issue on the 6 Series. The 5 series hold it's own when compared to the 6 series but the 6 Series has a lil bit better picture on SDR and a better picture on HDR. NOW THE 5 SERIES I have is my 2nd TV on Weekends mainly for watching NFL on YT TV.
1 minor gripe is I wish it had 2 different leg mounting locations like the 5 series (why the better more expensive 6 series doesn't and the cheaper 5 series does makes no sense). I had a Sony XR55J80 OLED and like the TCL better but mainly just because it's a bit brighter but they have same picture to me accept for off axis viewing but I watch it alone.

Unboxing was easy thanks to tcl's slide off box design. Setup went smooth using google home app from my phone, there was no typing with the remote to log into or create accounts. The setup routine took roughly 10 to 15 minutes with a firmware update. The initial picture quality was a little rough looking in the google operating system, but i switched to the Ruku ultimate 4k dolby vision with a fusion 8k hdmi cable and turned on hdmi 2.1 support, followed Rtings.com sugestions for Dolby vision dark and now its absolutly georgus. Hooked up a Denon dht-s517 sound bar to earc and turned on passthrogh and dolby atmos and the lipsink delay is spot. CEC controll is 50/50 in my case it will turn on the ruku ultimate and the soundbar and will turn off the ruko but will not turn off the soundbar, but the volume controll and other functions seem to function properly. When doing the warrentee registration you have the option to purchase extended coverage directly from TCL. Overall this set is a good value for the price and firmware updates seem to have fixed the previous issues and bugs.

This TV would get 5 Stars, but there are a couple things holding it back. One of them is the OS and some of the Apps on the TV. Now I stopped using the Apps on the TV as they have been sluggish and also seem to crash the TV. I ONLY watch/stream stuff through my PS4, Switch, etc. Second however a smaller issue, I also bought this TV for its AV capability for my older Consoles and so far it's been great minus the fact it DID NOT come with the AV Adapter. I needed to purchase that separately which was again a slight mark against it since I already had an AV Adapter but there is a specific one needed ONLY for TCL TVs, I bought that off Amazon and boom it works. But for the plus side, this TV has great picture quality, awesome refresh rates, perfect picture for gaming, movies and steams. Gaming on this has been one of the best experiences with color, refresh rate & smoothness. New games, older games it does look awesome! Watching movies and streaming stuff has also been great, it does have Google TV and Chromecast built in so that has been really slick and even an older iPad can cast to this TV with NO ISSUE! Ending, overall I do enjoy this TV, I am keeping it (unless it craps out). I did get it during this sale for $699 which for that price it is worth it I believe. I hope they roll out some updates for the apps, OS, and make this TV much better to use!

Love it. It does everything I want. Picture looks amazing. Great tv for a living room, the screen is bright enough to see even near direct sunlight. 4k @ 120 hz is amazing super happy fun game time. No for real. You could literally use this TV as a gaming monitor. My PC and console hook up/stream fine. Colors are fantastic, super amounts of control for the picture, even with Dolby on. Hdr works great. This TV is just an awesome bang for the buck. If I had another room I'd buy another one. Seriously this TV is dope.

TCL 6 series is a bargain if you’re looking to get good quality product. It provides great quality picture and having 120 Hz refresh rate at 4k to play video games it’s just next level. I was a little hesitant to get the google OS version considering they had some issues on the early version but so far so good. The only thing that I don’t like is the fact that there’s no input button on the remote for easy access to your recent apps. Sound quality is ok but apart from that this tv does stands out from other tvs that’s going for the same price.

I love this tv, i had a similar one back then except it was an OLED tv. OLED tvs are great, but they reauire a lot more care. A QLED doesnt though, and it looks almost just as good! Not only that but at the price of $400(the usual sale price) its a literal steal! The 120hz is perfect for games like COD and Siege, the tv has amazing repsomse time, multiple display settings that i can customize on my own, and has a gamma that goes to 2.6 if i want(most tvs only go to 2.4) with the new gamma settinf i can make the colors look very “mature” as i put it while not lookimg washed out. And the google firmware is actually very likable, i didnt think id like it this much. I love the roku firmware but this possibly tops it in my own opinion. Only thing i would say is that i had to play around with my settings to get my picture looking nice, it could have just been my tv. All i suggest is if you buy this tv and dont like the picture out of the box, just try to play around with the settings before getting upset. Trust me its 150% worth it! My suggestion is first turning off the auto brightness, then put the brightness at 100% and the contrast at 75%-100%, black level at 25%, and only turn on black stretch and local contrast snd put them both at high, and put gamma at 2.6. Saturation at 50-55%(i put at 53%) and make sure the color temperature is at normal, dont put it at warm or cool, color temp never really works well reguardless of the tv being used. This is my own personal prefference of course so if you dont like your picture the way i do, feel free to do your own personal changes. Id give this tv a 4.5/5 if you are using it just for regular television, and a 5/5 for gaming!

Very good TV! Especially for the price. You’re sacrificing on certain specs, such as VRR for all of the HDMI ports, for a high-quality picture with some premium features. My only complaint about the picture is the local dimming tech. It can be really solid in delivering an OLED-like picture, but in more demanding circumstances the dark sections struggle to find the right level and details get crushed. This TV is excellent for gaming and brighr pictures, but it is less strong with content like horror and anything with a ton of dark-light contrast. I can still do those things, but not as well.

I and very impressed by this TCL television. I got it for $400 on Black Friday and it is the best purchase I’ve made in a while the quality is unbelievable. It almost looks like an OLED panel with how deep the blacks are. The 120 Hz refresh rate is also unbeatable. the TV also sounds really good. The only negatives I can think of or that it’s very heavy and pretty thick which I guess just comes with nicer technology at a cheap price.

PROS: Great Picture Quality, not quite OLED level, but close as you can get for a budget-midrange TV. Benefits of buying this VS OLED are that this TV gets very bright and should not have Burn in issues. Black levels are very good for an LCD TV, and contrast is also very good. Google TV is also a very promising platform if you are in the Android/Google world.
CONS: Although Google TV has the potential to be great, currently on this TV there are several bugs and is just not a smooth experience. TV can lag at times, Apps do crash, and some HDR streaming apps could use some work as picture quality can vary greatly between apps. Also, you won't get the deepest blacks seen on and OLED TV, but that is understandable given the price
Overall, I would recommend this TV as the hardware is a homerun when considering the price. If you can live with the Google TV issues, and believe TCL and Google will fix via future software releases, then this TV is highly recommended

Overall very happy with my TCL TV, but the Google TV OS is especially buggy on TCLs. In my case, the most notable problems included certain apps freezing regularly, and certain apps not having sound after the TV was turned on until another working app played sound first (e.g., could not get any sound on YouTube unless you first opened Netflix, played a video with sound, then went back to YouTube).
Pros:
* Solid (if not great) picture quality
* Soundbar worked flawlessly with eARC and CEC — could use one remote, synced well, etc.
* Good audio delay correction settings in both directions (audio too early and too late, which is not all that common for TVs)
* Speakers were not terrible (though I got a soundbar anyway)
* Ambient light sensing
Cons:
* Buggy OS
* Passable-but-not-amazing upscaling of 1080p content
* Somewhat dirty panel in my particular TV
* Dolby Vision makes TV not as bright as I’d like — though this is mostly a Dolby “feature” I think, and would be consistent on all TVs, I believe

I needed to replace my 55” LG OLED that had bad burn-in only after 4 yrs. My tv watching habits - like watching old 4:3 aspect ratio B&W film noir, horror movies and old sitcoms from time to time, were a little too rough on the poor, fragile OLED. When I started looking, my mind was set on the Samsung Neo-QLED, but it was never on sale when I was ready to buy. Then I saw this TCL 6-series 55” mini-led, QLED on sale for nearly half the price of the Samsung and pulled the trigger. When I ordered it online, I thought I ordered the Roku , but mistakenly ordered the Google tv. Since I had a couple of weeks to return it, I went ahead unboxed and set it up and I was amazed by the deep blacks, the bright brights, true colors and custom settings. After seeing great reviews on YouTube, I decided to keep the Google model. Cons: I wish the OS was a little more sophisticated and the remote could be better.

Got this TV for $400 on a deal of the day and for that price I don't think this TV can be beat. Great picture, extremely good brightness. Having 120hz is also fantastic. Truthfully the only downside to this TV is that the variable refresh rate is on for 48hz to 120hz so trying to play a game that supports 40hz will cause issues. Other than that this TV is a fantastic buy

I've had this TV for only a week but have had my eye on it since it released in 2021. All the bugs and issues that plagued it on its release have been addressed and i do not regret getting this TV especially at the Price of $399 at the time of this review. A tv priced this low (probably the last of Best Buy's stock) with all the features and next gen console compatibility makes this easily my BEST TV purchase and that's coming from someone who owns an LG oled. My oled is still King but having another option at this pricepoint and having it be this good is incredible. Picture is crisp, bright, deep blacks that can hold its own with an oled, gameplay is smooth, sound is meh but pair it with a nice soundbar and you are good to go. I would recommended you buy this while best buy still have it in stock at this price point.

Great Picture, OS Concerns Largely Overblown

We purchased this TV to replaced a same sized model from a competitor. I normally would not have bought a TCL but the picture quality was well reviewed on Rtings (so long as you were not viewing 480P native content without upscaling).
The picture quality is amazing. The contrast between white and dark objects is the best I've seen on a TV. When viewing 4:3 content, we could not see any blooming on the black bands to each side of the content. This contrast is also evident in HDR content.
The brightness for this model is well... Overkill. If you have a well lit living room and need to overpower glare, this model will do it. We run the TV at 40-50 Brightness to extend longevity... And not feel like we're staring at the sun. It is certainly nice to have the option of the brightness though and it's great for HDR content.
Colors are okay for a VA panel. It won't compare to the colors of an IPS or OLED panel but that's a limitation of VA and not specific to TCL.
We have not noticed any dirty screen effect. There is some brightness clouding in the center of the screen but you have to look at it from an extreme angle (over 45 degrees) and at lower brightness. Dead on; this panel shows solid, pristine colors when running full screen color tests. Please note I may have just won the panel lottery but this is consistent with reviews.
The included OS is not as problematic as others have noted. I suppose if you were used to the previous Roku OS it would be jarring. However, I never used it. We were prepared to use this TV as a dumb TV, but YouTube works on it exceedingly well and it comes up quickly. It remains as a background app and switching from an input to YouTube is instantaneous. We still need to set up Netflix and Disney+, but based on initial impressions I'm not expecting any issues.
I can confirm that both HDR and surround sound work great in the TV's YouTube app.
I did have one quick restart of the OS, I changed a few display settings in rapid succession while YouTube was running and it restarted. That's the only crash we experienced and YouTube returned after ~5 seconds. I also noticed that during HDR content the settings UI gets slow. Content is not affected though.
I noticed that one of the setting tooltips misspelled 'picture'. I found it a little endearing as almost everything about this TV is perfect.
Some people have complained about issues regarding sound bars but this seems to affect mostly older model sound bars. It works with a 3-year old competitor model but I did have to enable settings in the Input-CEC menu to enable it to see it through HDMI ARC. Those settings really should be default enabled. I do have issues with my sound bar turning off during content, but it did that before on the previous TV as well. It's annoying, but I can't fault the TV for this. It's possible others experiencing this had the issue prior as well.
I cannot speak for longevity, but overall I am impressed with this TV. I would not let the Google OS deter you from buying the TV. It's seems TCL has done plenty of updates already to try and address the issue.
