When watching direct the picture is stunning, vibrid, deep blacks, but if you sit more than a few defrees off center the picture is horrible also if you are a bit low from center (laying down or reclining) the picture is washed our and has steange blobs for higjlights in hdr.

Best 98" premium television on the market. Was a die hard Samsung customer until I bought this 98"TCL. Absolutely loving it!!

I purchased the 98-inch model (2024 QM851G) 3 weeks ago. It was a tough decision to choose between this, the Hisense U8, and the LG C4. At the end, what make choose the QM851G was the size, price and PQ. At 98 inches the sense of immersion is just hard to beat. However, like all tv's is not perfect. I find the sound to be ok, is powerful but for me it lacks a bit of fidelity and the bass is just flat. Sure, I don't expect this tv to perform sound like a home theater but a good sound bar or AVR is the way to go. However, I found surprisingly good the ATMOS effect coming from the top speakers. Sometimes you see some audio products with the ATMOS logo but they are only gimnick, but with this tv I'm very Impressed. The QM8 it struggles with upscaling low bitrate or SD content, that's not a concern for me since I watched most of the content in HD and 4K. I enable motion control but only adjust the judder reduction and blur to 3. For me, this creates the most natural and crisp picture across the board. This TV has powerful brightness, excellent contrast, in fact, the screen is so bright that I think TCL should provide a pair of free sunglasses with every purchase (hahaha). I notice just a bit of blooming in some content, also out of the box colors are good but not great. So after setting the TV to movie mode and do a full calibration, the QM8 is a gem. It has excellent black levels (very close to OLED), HDR content in HDR10+ or DV is just beautiful with colors that just pop. The TV has great sharpness and very good dynamic tone mapping. This TV is great for gaming, it has a 120hz refresh rate panel. Playing on my PS5 Pro I cannot complaint of any lag issues. Also the game menu is not as polish as an LG or Samsung but it does the job very well. Overall, TCL has made a top performer with the QM8, and best of all it rivals some more expensive TV sets with its mini-led technology, size and price point. Finally, I recommend you to take sometime to dial in the colors and you will be rewarded with a breathtaking picture quality that it will bring a big smile in you.

After MUCH research..reviews..and multiple store visits we decided on this magnificent tv even though it was a real struggle between the excellent Sony Bravia 9 @ 85" ..Both sets were extremely close in picture quality and I gave the nod to Sony with it's stellar world-class processor but in the end the QM8's immersive size won out..Oled-like blacks and searing (but effective) hdr effects and excellent shadowy dark scene details..I witnessed NO BLOOMING or strange artifacts...The attached pictures doesn't do this set any justice in real time!

We own 2 OLED TV's (65" and 77"), but we wanted to purchase an enormous, high quality, versatile TV for our dedicated home movie theater room that wouldn't break the bank. My wife is a professional movie critic, so we watch a LOT of movies. This TV was seemingly the best 98-100" 4K TV we could buy for the money, as the 97" LG OLED TV has been around $20K, whereas we bought this TV for just $5K. So we took a chance, and... we couldn't be happier! In my opinion, this TV is an equal to our OLED TVs. While the true inky blackness and detail level is slightly behind that of our OLEDs, the brightness and contrast it provides are breathtaking and make up for it. In some ways our OLED TVs are certainly better, but in other ways, I honestly prefer this TV. For the quality, size, performance, and price ratio, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better large-scale TV than this one. It truly is magnificent. If you're a movie fan, treat yourself. You deserve it. We've only owned it for a few months at this point, so I can't yet speak to longevity, but we so far have zero regrets.

Let me start by saying every screen in my home is a Samsung screen. Even my laptop is a Samsung so having a TCL product for me is out of character. I have been looking at 98" TVs and TCL has won numerous awards in the industry with their QM8 series. The picture is gorgeous! Deep blacks with great detail. Fast action sports on my old TV were blurry and sometimes pixelated. Not on the TCL QM8. Sports is crystal clear and it feels like you are at the game. Google TV is easy to set up, intuitive, and supports all of my streaming services. My Google Home connects easily as well. Netflix shows look and sounds great. I can't wait to watch my first football game on this TV. It is all screen. There is no bezel and it looks amazing. I purchased a Q series sound bar and the sound is deep, rich, and clear. Even with the sound bar off, the TV sound is surprisingly good. The best part of this is that the comparable Samsung TV was almost twice the cost as the TCL QM8. Even with my soundbar and installation, the TCL 98" TV is much more affordable. As I need to replace TVs, TCL will definitely be an option from here on out.

... precious in His sight. And wowzers! Those colors, along with all the others, are just simply fantabulous! I had both the 98" QM7 and QM8 and this QM8 is noticeably better in all aspects. First of all, after owning tens of TVs in the past decade, let me just say that there's no substitute for brightness. This QM8 is prolly the brightest TV for 2024 and it definitely is impressive. The black levels are also approaching OLED depths and for a "budget" company like TCL to produce this quality of a TV is what capitalism is all about. You don't need to pay the Sony tax to get an impressive TV anymore. Thanks to my people at TCL and Hisense, we can spend thousands less and get equal, if not better, picture quality than Sony and Samsung and LG. No, this TV isn't perfect. (But no TV is.) And as for longevity, well I think that's the biggest worry for me. But for now, this QM8 is best way to spend your hard earned (or hardly earned) money for 2024! Get hyped!

Great TV, just set up the tv today. I had first ordered the 83" LG G4, but kept having issues with the eArc port and display iessues, replaced it with another LG g4 amd had the same issues!! I figured id give the TCL Qm8 a try for 2024 and am very pleased! The 98" tv is a game changer, and makes my 83 inch G4 look tiny.. had a wierd issie when i first launced the tv where my Volume/power/back button all worked on the TCL remote but nothing else did.. updated the tv and havent ran unto the issue again.. black levels and brightness are very good, id recommend giving TCL a shot

No regrate at all switching from LG 77in OLED to this TCL QM8. I cannot deny the OLED still gives better contrast and more saturated color. However, watching TV in the day time, you will notice that the brightness matters more. TCL QM8 is the brightest TV I have ever seen. As a TV chip picture quality hardware designer, I can say that the PQ processing is not bad at all. Recommend to everyone who's consider buying it.

I went from a 77" LG G1 to this 98" TCL. My initial impressions are that this TV is bright and big. I was hoping that the local dimming worked better than it actually does. I do have a 65" Samsung with full array dimming, and I'm not sure this TV is any better in the black areas. I tried watching House of Dragons and noticed that black bars on the top and bottom are slightly visible. The brightness of the screen helps with masking that, but it's definitely not like OLED. The reason I think this TV is totally worth $4000 is that the immersion from having such a big TV really does make up for a lot of the shortcomings. It's bright and clear. The black levels are not bad, but certainly nowhere near OLED. IMPORTANT: If you're getting installation from Best Buy, make sure you get the Geek Squad crew instead of a 3rd party. I've had 3 total attempts to install with a broken TV in the first attempt. The Geek Squad team were excellent, and I wish they were the team that came out initially.

I moved from a 85" Sony to this TV and it was a game changer. The HDDR picture is miles better than the Sony with extra bright highlights and details. Overall picture quality is even better with the latest beta firmware. Excellent TV all around.

This 98" TCL QM851 is the best TV I've ever seen. The size is huge but the image quality is really impressive. Researched OLED's, Bravia 9, LG QNED... None of them can touch this one from a price + performance + value perspective. None of them have the brightness that this TV can achieve. Although there's exceptional brightness, the excellent contrast and intelligent dimming zones get it pretty close to OLED blacks. Best of both worlds.

Extremely happy with the picture quality and resolution. Love the size! Been amazing for Movies and PlayStation. Only issue is keeping my kids from watching it when I want to!!

I’ll start by saying it’s not a competition, but after thoroughly examining and enjoying my TCL for 1 month: Count me in the camp of floored how the 98” QM851 rivals, and in some cases outshines OLED technology. I’ve long been a fan of what I thought are superior OLED black levels and contrast and mostly enjoyed my 77” Sony A80js for 3 years. However, I must say I truly believe this amazing 98” TCL rivals OLEDs inky blacks and contrast, while actually delivering more shadow detail. In terms of DV and HDR bright highlights, there’s no comparison with the wow factor this TCL vs. dimmer OLEDs. Also, I’ve always been a bit distracted with some uniformity issues/vertical banding on darker scenes on my Sony OLEDs, that can be visible on dark fast panning scenes. On this TCL, it’s remarkable how clean comparable scenes are with no DSE, and that’s on a 98” vs. 77”. In terms of motion, once I locked in on frame rate matching, I think it’s comparable to OLED and possibly less judder in fast panning scenes. I’m still on firmware v113, so it might even be better with updates? You might say I’m a bit OCD when it comes to home theater and I’m extremely pleased with this 98” beast, true projector destroyer! I can’t imagine any large projector screen could come close to the wow factor this TCL delivers. Nothing is perfect, but this comes as close as possible and at a remarkably affordable price! I agree with all the hype.

Really crisp and clean picture and the darks, and brightness, are incredible to view. Would highly recommend this TV, their panels are getting better and better.

Only complaint would be motion blur. Hard to get rid of motion blur outside of putting in video game mode. Sound is really good from a tv.

Love this tv! Purchased the 98" version and the picture quality is outstanding! It feels as if it can perform at the same level, if not better in some aspects to some of the extremely high end, $15k+ tvs of the same size. Worth every penny! Sound quality from the tv alone is nothing special, but if you are investing in a tv this size, pair it with a good sound system and it's the perfect home theater setup!

Moved up to the 98’ TCL QM8 from a 77’ LG C1 and think it’s great. I paired it with a JBL BAR 500 soundbar and just love it. Have had it for about a month and love streaming 4k content in it… some lower resolution viewing isn’t so great, but that’s a small portion of what I watch…

Very pleased with the tv so far! I was worried 98” would be too big, now I could never go any smaller! Great TV, awesome picture, very bright! Dolby Vision is a huge plus! TCL hit a home run with this set! I could not be any happier thus far.
