Customers are positive about the Grand Class Network Integrated Audio Amplifier's sound quality, connectivity, HDMI ARC, design, Spotify, and setup. They appreciate the crisp music, easy setup, and the convenience of connecting to the internet and hooking up floor speakers. The HDMI ARC port is particularly praised for liberating TV audio from soundbars. However, some customers would prefer a larger display for quicker source selection.

Technics has created a diamond of product with the SU-GX70 Grand Class Network Integrated Audio Amplifier. In a time when everyone seems to be flooding the market with inexpensive streamers the SU-GX70 reminds us that there is a reason that audiophile products exist.
The unit has very solid build quality with a satisfying heft to it. The front panel sports a minimalist design and in fact I would argue that the front display panel is too small to be useful if you're sitting more than a few feet away. However, the Technics Audio Center app can fill in by offering a comprehensive set of (text only) screens on your phone.
Setup was easy and I experienced none of the usual glitches using an app. The amplifier integrates with the Google Home app and automatically sets up your WiFi connection.
I paired the SU-GX70 with a pair of Bowers and Wilkens bookshelf speakers, connected the included FM antenna, plugged in the AC power and was off and running! The included remote control is not backlit but that is the only criticism I can think of. It is comprehensive and has a good feel. Again, because the display is so small, you will find that you effectively navigate blind. However the button assignments are intuitive and after a few hours I was comfortable.
I put the amplifier through its paces with multiple sources. Started with Spotify from my phone, switched to FM radio, tested casting from multiple apps, everything worked flawlessly and sounded good. Then I really pushed the boundaries expecting to expose any rough edges. I loaded a USB thumb drive with HD FLAC files and started critical listening. Guess what? Everything played! No dropouts, lockups or hiccups! So I switched over to my NAS library and once again everything just worked! Navigating with the remote was flawless and I've enjoyed rediscovering some of my library that was buried several folders deep!
In summary - this device deserves its "audiophile" designation and would be a great addition to anyone's system. Highly recommended.
I would recommend this to a friend

I chose this Technics receiver to drive speakers for a TV in the upstairs den. Normally I’d have installed in-ceiling sound speakers and used a Dolby/DTS surround receive , but that area is too open for a 5.1 channel setup. I thought this stereo receiver would be a great way to bring sound to that area, and its network audio options would be a good way to enjoy music when not watching TV.
Immediately upon unboxing, I was impressed by how substantial and solid this receiver is. The steel casing is thick and will easily support other heavy components. The plastic parts feel like the quality we used to get in high-end components. The knobs feel supple, and the display is crisp and clear. The rear inputs are well laid out and also good quality. If only the remote were of the same quality! It’s not bad, but it’s nothing special. At this price-point, I’d have expected it to be more than a plastic slab with tiny rubber buttons like every other remote sold with budget TVs.
Setup is simple, except that it wants you to use Google Home for its configuration. That’s fine, except that it does not recognize when you want to use a hardwired Ethernet connection and requires setting it up with Wi-Fi. You can use the remote to switch Wi-Fi off and it will fall back to its wired network connection. I would recommend not using Google Home unless you specifically want to. It is not required and all setup functions can be performed on the receiver itself with the remote. I really don’t even see much use for Google Home unless you have a sophisticated automation setup and want this receiver to be part of that. Even then, it’s just treated as “a speaker”.
I connected it to the TV’s ARC interface via an HDMI cable and it all works flawlessly. I used a pair of Klipsch speakers and the audio is fantastic. There must be some processing going on inside this receiver because it makes even mundane TV audio sounds crystal clear with real “presence”. Playing music from network sources or Bluetooth is really amazing. Again, even generic MP3 audio sounds like something special. Using the network audio sources is where I found some interface issues and the reason why I gave this receiver 4 stars instead of 5.
The display on the receiver is crisp and clear, but it is a bit small for navigating complex menus and hierarchical folder structures of network audio. You end up doing a lot of up and down arrowing to select items in the tree, but the display only shows one item at a time. This in itself is not an issue, but the network folder navigation is painfully slow. It can take up to 3 seconds to move from one item to the next, or when selecting an item (subfolder) to select its contents. A larger display and more caching of folder lists would have made a big difference. Better yet, using the TV as a display for navigating folders and items would have made this a great way to enjoy all the network audio sources this receiver supports.
Overall, I really like this receiver, and it’s well suited for its intended purpose as an amp for my TV audio. Using it for Bluetooth audio or its built-in Chromecast are also good features. I likely won’t use the streaming network audio so much so the user interface limitations of that are not a huge concern.
Thank you for your detailed and insightful review! We're glad to hear that you found the receiver to be substantial and solid, with high-quality build materials and components. Your observations about the remote's quality and the ease of setup are duly noted, and we appreciate your suggestions regarding Google Home integration. We're grateful for your support and look forward to providing you with continued great audio experiences. -M

I am a gamer and an amateur musician.
I assume if you are looking at this little guy, you are already aware of what you're looking for. You know the difference between a receiver and an amp, and you are specifically looking for an amp.
When shopping for an amp, there are some considerations you are looking for; how much power we're putting out, digital chips/decoders that are used, range of sound we are getting, how accurate is the sound, build materials used in the construction of the internals, what and how many input/outs you get, etc and even in this day and age consideration for wireless capabilities. This baby does not disappoint.
You will find in many reviews the praises of how many options you get to play music off of; you can cast off Chromecast, Airplay 2, Spotify, Tidal, Apple Music, radio / internet radio, aside from all the physical ports in the back (2 line level inputs, RCA, optical/coaxial digital inputs, HDMI / HDMI ARC, USB type A and type B, as well as the 6.3mm jack in the front. The internal DAC can manage up to 32bit / 384 kHz PCM streams, and you're looking at 40w per channel in 8Ohm or 80W in 4Ohm. After listening to the sound I was more impressed with the machine and decided to research some more about the machine, discovering the transistors/capacitors, etc all the components chosen and used were distinctly picked to minimze any distortions, jitters, etc. The digital amplifier uses the JENO Engine along with the fancy circuitry to fine tune the output even further, to give you this amazing sound. I'd be hardpressed to even try to explain what LAPC is, just know it makes the sound/output stage sound amazing. Your money is buying alot of these nice features to make the output sound amazing... and it works!
Setting up was easy. I just used Google Home, and add device, just make sure the machine is blinking Wifi Settings, your Google Home will detect it and walk you through the installation process. I thought it was a little strange but I did receive a warning screen about this machine not being made for my country and I may have some compatibility issues... everything worked fine but it did make me a little nervous, see screen shot.
My box didn't come with the AAA batteries, I think it should've came with it, either it didn't come with it or my kids took it, but I definitely didn't find any in the box.
After a quick set up, literally less than 5 minutes, I have this set up in my living room temporarily (see pictures) so that I can run across several speakers, and also have family members give me their subjective opinions of what they are hearing. Collectively we all agree the output was amazing. As you can see I have the Marantz receiver right below (yes I did move the machine prior to firing up the set up to avoid any interference from each other), I've also had some other headphones, ATH-M50x Monitor headphones by Audio Technica, Apples Airpod Pro, Airpod Max, etc have it set up and had everyone in the family try the amp.
We collectively agree the distinct instruments are much more discernible. I was pleasantly surprised the GX70 matched if not outperformed the Marantz in the crisp, distinctness of each channel/tone/instruments. Amazing! Although I didn't feel it matched the large stage feeling the Marantz did, my wife and kids felt it was comparable. We played a variety of genre, classical piano/violin music, symphonies, talk shows, movies. We played Apple Music , TIDAL, some hi def music just to see the difference. It was quite clear the GX70 is competitive, and if not better, than some of the other equipment I have at home, and carries a lighter price tag. Things like speech in a movie, dialogue in a video game, were much less of a difference. But when opening music to say Star Wars or Harry Potter came on, we all looked at each other amazed at the difference. The lows didn't muddle the highs and the mids were more easily audible. I have to rethink about my speakers, as now I feel either my other equipment is aging, or the Gx70 is showing me I need to upgrade my audio environment.
All in all - easy to set up, great audio, amazing product for what you pay for!

Need connection options? Need to stream? It's here

If you are looking at reviews for the Technics SU-GX70 then you are probably an audiophile looking for an upgrade/other options or possibly starting out and know Technics is a great brand to go with.
The Technics SU-GX70 is a stacked unit with connection options which I'll talk about later and streaming options galore.
Build quality is excellent with this unit. The front panel is made up of 7mm thick aluminum and the finished looks great and the volume knob is also made up of solid aluminum which adds to the premium quality that you'd expect from Technics. The front panel also consists of a power button, headphone jack, USB-A port, remote sensor, volume knob, input selector knob and the display with touch buttons. I do enjoy this front layout as it doesn't leave the unit looking busy or complicated.
Now to the connections. You have analog input terminals, analog input terminals for Line 1/ Line 2, Coax, Optical digital, USB-B, Pre-out, speaker terminals, wired LAN port and an HDMI port. You have all theses options and I really appreciate the HDMI port so you can hook up your TV. Although it may not have enough speaker output terminal for a full surround system it is a nice option to have. Speaking of speaker out terminals you can hook up 2 speakers for a 2 channel Hi-Fi system, which is what I am doing with a pair of Klipsch R51-M and I am really enjoying the sound quality.
Let's talk about all the streaming options you have available on this unit. You have access to Qobuz, Tidal, Deezar, Amazon Music, Spotify and Internet radio. This unit also works with Google home and Apple home which you will need to setup along with the Technics app. I used the Google home app and setup my unit to my home wifi then connected it to the Technics app. The Technics app is simple to use and you can make all your adjustments from there. The unit also works with Apple Airplay and bluetooth.
Sound quality is great as the Technics SU-GX70 is a fully digital amplifier with LAPC
which help improve sound quality. There is also the JENO engine which helps HDMI ARC sound quality. So if you're listening though an audio source such as a streaming service or even through the TV you will get great sound.

A great music-centric amp worthy of my turntable

Finally an amplifier/receiver that is worthy of my turntable. I've not had an amp in a couple decades that I liked for my home turntable(s). The biggest issue, I guess, has been that all the amps I had before were more and more made for audio that accompanies video (A/V) with all different types of surround and other signal processing. It also seems that the majority of those amps didn't have much of any focus on quality for the "phono" input. I've kept my vinyl and kept it in good condition, using high-end turntables (including my 1200's from DJ-ing).
Before opening the box, I noticed that it was heavy like other amplifiers I've had in the past, but not like a cinder block. Once out of the box, it was clear that there has been care put into the design and construction of the case and that it's more what I would expect from a high-end amp, with metal where many other amps are plastic.
The back of the amp is laid out like most other amps, but it's refreshing to be free of all the extra inputs and outputs found commonly with most A/V receivers. The HDMI ARC port is very handy. I especially appreciate the pre-out RCA jacks so I can run what I play on this networked amp and run it to my house amp that runs the speakers by the pool, the bedroom, and the family room. I also used the pre-out for connection to my powered subwoofer.
Sound... It sounds great. I connected my Klipsch tower speakers and the sound was cleaner than my A/V receiver. It was refreshing to have the ability to use the amp for streaming instead of relying on my phone - although Apple AirPlay works very well.
The app could use improvement, but it's still better than others I've used... just not a reference standard. I should mention that I covered the bright blue LED by the power button with a tiny piece of black tape so it wasn't like a laser when directly in front of the unit, but this isn't the first time I've done that.
Overall, 4.9 out of 5, only taking a tenth of a point for the app. Don't get me wrong... the app works and I didn't have trouble, I just feel it could use a little boost.
This is such a nice feedback and we are always trying our best to make the experience of our customers memorable. Thank you so much for taking the time to send this! -C

A Simple, Beautiful Box That Sounds Amazing

The Technics SU-GX70 Network Audio Amplifier has been a fantastic addition to my stereo listening setup. It consistently delivers an immaculate and precise audio performance, often exceeding the expectations set by its listed specifications. As you immerse yourself in your favorite music or movie, the amplifier's clarity, depth, and sonic equilibrium consistently astound, painting an intricate auditory canvas that is both immersive and faithful to the original source.
The inclusion of HDMI ARC connectivity is a significant advantage for this amplifier. Its support ensures seamless integration with your home theater setup allowing for a better experience than a soundbar. The built-in streaming services add convenience, enabling you to access your favorite music through a slightly rough-around-the-edges but still extremely useful app.
The LPAC feature goes beyond standard room correction by intelligently adapting to your specific speakers' impedance, gain, and phase characteristics. This fine-tuning ensures that your audio experience is tailored precisely to your speaker setup, resulting in an overall optimized sound profile. While it might not deliver the same dramatic impact as dedicated room correction systems, LPAC adds a valuable layer of customization and audio enhancement to your listening environment.
Additionally, the Technics Stereo Amplifier boasts a headphone jack that's a hidden gem for headphone enthusiasts. This headphone jack delivers an exceptional listening experience, maintaining the same high-quality audio standards as its speaker outputs. My Focal Clear Pros were given a bit more depth and cleanliness in the bass region than when compared to running them on my DX320 or Monolith THX Desktop amp. It's a thoughtful inclusion that adds versatility to the amplifier, making it an all-in-one solution for both speaker and headphone-based audio enjoyment
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a fantastic 5-star review. We're absolutely thrilled to hear about your positive experience with us. -C

Excellent network receiver and audio amplifier

Technics really did a great job simplifying this network amplifier and incorporating lots of connectivity and streaming options. One of the key things to note is the sound quality is amazing and the room setup feature that Technics uses to tune this amplifier to your speakers and room really works and helps this receiver put out a rich, dynamic and balanced sound at reasonable volumes. It's nice to see some of these features and how well this network amplifier performs in addition to providing a number of advance features through the app to turn your sound to you taste. I love that this amplifier now has HDMI Arc and supports all the streaming apps that I love in addition to the numerous connection options it has. In terms of power, it's good enough for me but if you're looking for more power to drive high power speakers it can output to an amp for the best possible sound quality and power. For my needs though, this receiver is perfect when paired with a high quality pair of Hifi speakers.
The one area I do think Technics could focus on is the app. First of all, it works and it has done everything I've wanted it to do but I think there are some things that Technics could do to simplify the app and make it easier to use. I might just being picky as I have figured out all of the settings and features but it wasn't as intuitive as I thought it might be. Perhaps over time the app will evolve and address some of those things.
As for the receiver itself, there really are no buttons outside of the volume knob and touch display. I wish there were a few favorite buttons or even soft keys that you could customize so you can easily jump directly to those sources. This would come at a trade off to the clean look that this receiver has which I also like and most of that functionality exists in the app and if you use this in a rack it wouldn't matter so much anyway.
Technics technology for sound processing is definitely unbeatable, the audio this thing produces is very clean, and sounds wonderful once you've ran through the setup process and set the receiver up as recommended by Technics. It definitely doesn't disappoint, delivering the kind of quality hardware to produce the best sound that you'd expect to hear out of Technics. T
There are so many connectivity options/sources for this receiver it's unreal, I really like that it has that much flexibility and now has the HDMI arc. I rarely listen to FM anymore but with the tuner this has built in I have found myself listening more. So far, I'm very impressed with it and would definitely recommend it.
The only thing I am hoping through time that will improve is the easy of use of the app and more features/updates added over time. It's not so bad I wouldn't recommend it but it is something I'd like to see. Outside of this it doesn't disappoint unless you're looking for more power then you'll definitely want to consider pairing it with an amp for more power.
Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback! We're delighted to hear that you've had a positive experience with the sound quality and room setup feature, and that it meets your needs for your audio setup. We appreciate your feedback on the app's usability. Your input will be taken into consideration for future updates, and we aim to make the app more intuitive for users. Your feedback helps us continue to improve our products and services! -M

This is a fantastic integrated amp! I have it hooked up to a pair of Kef bookshelf Q350 and it sounds amazing! Really opens the speakers up despite the appearance of low wattage. Hooked up the hdmi input to the eARC on my tv, and it does exactly what every other eARC capable device does. Keeping the audio circuitry clean of video signal is a marvelous concept for a system, but I personally feel this device only has hdmi because everyone else is doing it. Focusing on music should be Technic’s ambitions, because that’s where this shines. Streaming lossless music from Apple Music via Airplay 2 and playing samples from my SACD transport sound absolutely spotless. They really did their homework on reproducing audio. This amp brings out the details so you can really tell which songs are painstakingly loved and mastered by an artist and what is junk tossed on an album to pad a record. I spent a few hours with my eyes closed, listening to 50’s Jazz and the greats of Motown and the sound was fantastic. I’ve listened to two channel amps at twice the price that don’t have the sound quality as this.
My only “complaint” is with the algorithm for processing speaker waveform to “compensate.” I tried several positions and recalibrated a few times, but the process took a lot of the depth and tone out of the sound and made the speakers sound flat and unappealing. I’ll play with it some more, but for the moment, I just set it to off.
Setup was easy. It found my Google Home network easily, and all the music apps work without any hitches. It’s a great return to form for Technics and I hope to hear more great things from them in the future!
We're truly grateful for your 5-star review! Thank you for choosing us and for taking the time to share your positive thoughts. -C

The Technics - Grand Class Network Integrated Audio Amplifier SU-GX70 provides all the modern quality of sound and design expected from audiophiles and basement cinemas, while giving you the classic look and feel of the glory days of Hi-Fi and stereo systems. The GX70 brings technology to the forefront by using the classic features many are used to while merging solid state and digital components necessary for the changing audio world around us.
I found this system to be an amazing blend of retro feel-good from when I was a kid enjoying music from my father's stereo system and the innovations I want today for my home theatre and music listening pleasure. Minimalistic on the front with all the business in the back allows you to connect everything from you TV to your Turntable; your surround sound to your Bluetooth devices. Nearly every connection you can consider, this amplifier has! HDMI Arc is perfect for that home theatre setup!
PROS
- Technics brand, quality, and design
- Minimalist front looks good in any room
- High Quality sound with plenty of lows, mids, and highs to ensure the best sound experience
- Numerous inputs and outputs allows nearly any audio connection needed
CONS
- None at this time!

Quality streaming like you haven't heard before
|

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Summary: The Technics SU-GX70, or as Technics would have it, the Technics Grand Class Network Integrated Audio Amplifier, is one of those rare devices that lives up to its marketing title and hype. For clarity and because it deserves all the accolades, I would have been tempted to add ‘Hi-Fi’, ‘All-digital’, ’All-Streaming’ and ‘All-Connecting’. All these phenomenal audio powers… quality elegant packaging space. Meaning, it’s hard to summarize this audio component. Yes I am impressed. It’s modern requirements (streamer), combining with state-of-the-art technology (all-digital), to deliver on a timeless Hi Fi promise of enabling you to hear the music, regardless of input device, the way the artist intended, be that artist Mozart or Taylor Swift. But, okay you knew there was a ‘but,’ its price tag will seem high for those used to the Bluetooth speaker bin at Noise-R-Us, or it’s a value for those used to more costly systems with fewer features.
Let’s get to it.
Pros:
- Connections, connections, connections, too many to list but let’s try, 2 stereo RCA inputs, RCA phono, coaxial digital, stereo RCA preamp for more power or subwoofer, full-size 1/4" front-panel headphone jack, and binding posts…
- HDMI ARC, yes this is a connector, but I listed it separately because not all stereo streamers have it.
- Digital, digital, digital connections, ethernet, Bluetooth, Apple Airplay2, USB-A for thumb drives supporting AIFF, ALAC, AAC, FLAC, sMP3, and DSD files, USB-B.
- Built in FM Radio tuner
- Dedicated built-in Class AA headphone amplifier.
- Decent frequency response as one would expect (eg. Digital 20Hz – 80,000 kHz)
- Fully digital processing from input to output for cleaner sound.
- Compact but elegant design to complement any living room.
Cons:
- State of the art ‘SpaceTune’ which optimizes the sound for your room, works best with Apple iPhones and their microphones (otherwise you are stuck with presets). Not so bad if you have access to one, not so good if you don’t.
A Matter of Taste:
- 40 W per stereo channel at 8 ohms is fine for a small to medium size room, but some will want more power. For them, yes, you can add your own pre-amp, but that gets away from the small, elegant packaging.
- I found the built-in display too small to see across the room, and dot monochrome is elegant but sometimes we like to see our cover art in full resolution color.
- Yes, you can connect your TV for great stereo output via HDMI, but... should you? Sort of seems like setting up for comparison to 5-channel boom-boom surround sound.
- Like 95% of devices, their remote control and App will be a matter of taste. I found them to be serviceable, a tad painful on set up (needing to read and think), but once I got going fine.
Most of my thoughts are embedded above, but to parse it out, let’s start with what the Technics SU-GX70 is. It’s a stereo ‘receiver’ that you can hook up to almost any component (cd, phono, computer, and then wire, yes wire to two, yes only two, speakers to. I’ve lost some folks already, that are looking for 5 channel surround sound with wireless speakers. That’s fine. The Technics SU-GX70 is not for them.
In fact, Who’s this NOT For?
- Someone who wants surround sound for their TV, probably not for you. Sure, it connects fine, but it’s stereo. When I am really listening to music, I am not looking at a screen. Conversely, when I am watching a movie, I want the rumble in the bumble. Sorry Technic, I know this is a selling feature for you (HDMI ARC, ooh, ah).
- Someone who thinks all they need for a streamer is their phone and an Alexis speaker, probably not for you.
- Someone thinking about a dorm room, but maybe if cost is no object while playing beer pong.
- Someone who might describe ‘pure sound’ as ‘clinical’, yeah no.
- Someone looking to fill a dance hall.
- Someone who thinks ‘good enough’ is... good enough.
Who is this for?
- You know what lossless encoding means and what it can bring to streaming.
- You stream.
- You like to debate about the virtues of vinyl (records)
- You really want the top end Technics SU-R1000 Digital Integrated Amplifier but don’t want to pay $10,000 and see the value of Technics adopting that technology down to the Technics SU-GX70.
- Your room is small to mid-size and you care about aesthetics.
- When it comes to music, quality, quality, quality.
- Finally, and most importantly, you care about quality sound when paired with the right WIRED speakers, and you want stereo for that listening music experience that involves your mind.
My Test Run
I admit it, I was worried about the 40 W per channel, I grew up in the era when bigger was better and who cared about noise, so I paired the Technics SU-GX70 with my floor standing Bowers & Wilkins - 603 Anniversary Floor Speakers (essentially the 603 S2). This is not a forgiving speaker, it won’t muffle over the frequencies hiding noise, but will accurately play the signal fed to it. B&W claims it could go down to 30 watts… but… could it? And did I mention floor standing?
The pairing… well... left me with a huge problem. The 603’s are too big for my office (my ultimate destination for the Technics SU-GX70. Oh well, the very definition of first world problems.
I got ahead of myself, the whole unboxing and set up experience that seems to be so popular these days, yep it was in a box, yep, took me some time to wire it up, run through the set-up procedures, to log on to my favorite streaming services that I can now access directly through the GX70. I get so excited about the sound I almost forgot to mention, yes, it is a very capable streamer.
For me the bottom line is, yes, whatever I sonically threw at the GX70, it delivered an experience to my ears that I don’t hear on lesser systems. Silky smooth sound with notes that just seemed to float, and yet it could be crisp when called for. Even if you don’t like piano music, you will appreciate what the Technics SU-GX70 brings to it. And yes, there really can be a lot of complexity in heavy metal. Just saying. The Technics SU-GX70 might convince me to get a Technics turntable.
Thank you for your in-depth and insightful review! We appreciate your thorough evaluation and the time you took to share your thoughts and experiences. If you have any further insights or questions, please feel free to share them. Enjoy your listening experience! -M

Great Audio Amplifier with Network Capabilities
|

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The Technics SU-GX70 Network Integrated Audio Amplifier is a great piece of audio equipment. The unit does quite a bit and did more than I expected. The unit was also much heavier than I expected too. It’s something you won’t be carrying around too often. Once you put it in place, it’ll most likely stay there until the need to move it again arises. There are quite a number of input sources on the back of the unit. Connections such as Phono, Optical, USB-B, LAN, RCA inputs, and HDMI ARC. The HDMI ARC is useful for connecting your TV to it via an HDMI cable and setting it up with your home theater system. It also comes with a radio antenna cable for using the built in FM Radio tuner. It has 4 speaker output connectors. However, I do wish it came with 1/4” outputs. That way I could connect it to my speakers that have 1/4”inputs. Since it does not, I’m unable to use those speakers which is a slight disappointment in my situation. The unit has built in Bluetooth and WiFi connection. It was easy connecting it to my WiFi network using the built in Chromecast feature. During setup the connection failed and was not able to connect to my WiFi network, but the very next screen allowed me to enter my WiFi connection password, and setup was then successful. After Chomecast setup was successful, it installed a Firmware update. Connecting it to my Apple Home was very easy as well. I didn’t have to do anything special. When I went to AirPlay to select my source, the SU-GX70 was already available. No issues setting it up via Bluetooth. The display on the front has touchscreen capabilities on the bottom half of the display. It allows me to Play/Pause, Forward, & Reverse tracks that are being played. The knob is used to scroll through the many input selections. It would be nice if it had a larger display so I could quickly select a source, instead of scrolling through all of them. The sound quality that comes out of the unit is top notch. Overall, I’m pleased with the performance and ease of use.

I am rarely a fan of marketing slogans; however, Technics slogan, rediscover music is quite appropriate for this amplifier. This is a high-quality two channel amplifier, which is designed to provide the best possible sound from many different sources, including video sources over to speakers. It has a high quality, moving coil photo input as well as Several streaming services, including Spotify and Tidal.
I replaced my 3.1 channel secondary home theater amplifier, which was a mid range brand designed for multiple video inputs and switching as well as up to eight speakers. This unit is all about the audio and merely strips the audio digital input from the ARC HDMI output of your television to create the best possible sound in any situation.
I tested with Apple classical, Spotify rock, jazz, reggae, rap, as well as bluegrass and performance was excellent. I also did direct comparisons of difficult to understand audio such as some older Britbox shows which can be difficult to understand without higher volumes. Even though a center channel speaker was not utilized. The speech was more clear and overall sound excellent. They were also no sync issue.
I am excited, not only to have better quality and more clear video audio but to relisten to my streaming, digital and vinyl music collections. It seems the products I have owned have over the last 20 years emphasized explosion, movies, and under emphasized, important music and voice quality. The unit is also smaller than most A/V amplifiers and it’s exactly the same size as my older NAD unit and comes in two colors. The build quality is excellent.

Great audio but a bit clunky to use

Pro:
-Crisp audio
-Connection for almost any audio devices
-Network connections
Con:
-Clunky to use
-App is slow and bad UI
-Remote not that useful
Setting up the amplifier was more complicated than it had to be. There are three options to set it up, using Google Home, Apple Home Kit, or WPS on your router. Using the Google Home, it was clunky as Google Home failed to automatically detect the amp and had to be manually added. Once added, you can cast via Google Home, but it just seems more steps than necessary to operate it. You don’t really need to use Google Home and instead can switch to using the Technics’ app.
The Technics Audio Central app looks old and isn’t very snappy. In the main page, you can choose your sources, be it a streaming service, network device, or an audio device. Using Spotify will open its own app, but other services like Amazon Music takes a second or two for “Reading” before it moves on to the next page. Then what you get looks like you’re browsing a file directory. You may get better audio quality playing through the Audio Center app, but it feels slow and unintuitive compared to the service’s own apps. Under settings, there are options to adjust the sounds and tune the speakers.
The amplifier is sleek and robust. The front has the main volume dial, a small screen with some touch functions with an input dial, and USB in, and headphone jack. The back has pretty much all the connection types you may need. There’s AV, digital, optical, USB, HDMI arc, and ethernet ports. You can connect to a network device, a USB flash drive, play through your TV, or connect traditional audio players. You can also stream through services like Spotify, Amazon Music, Tidal, Quobuz, and Deezer. Chromecast and Airplay are also available.
Operating it is also a bit clunky. You can switch your inputs, either with the dial or remote. The clunky part is for the streaming services. While you can switch the input to one of the services, you can only control it through the app. So why let us cycle through those extra inputs to only have to open the app anyway? Since the screen is small, you have to scroll through the on screen settings one at a time to turn them on and off. It’s better to use the app to change the settings if possible.
Audio is the star here. It’s clean and detailed, and when paired with good speakers, will give much more clarity. The components inside are supposed to help reduce interference and keep the audio clean. There’s a setting to completely turn off networking to maintain pure audio. To enhance audio even more, there are speaker settings to adjust for their placement in the room, and the LAPC feature can calibrate the sound based on speaker output.
This is an amplifier for music lovers and geared towards maintaining clean and clear audio. It has the benefit of having an HDMI arc to be able to pass your TV audio through it, and access to multiple streaming services. There’s plenty of connections for a variety of devices including networking devices. Setup was a bit too complicated than it should be and the app is a bit unintuitive and slow, but that’s a bit nitpicking. It works fine, just not very good to look at. It may seem like an old fashioned device trying to add modern features, but the audio results are what's important, and it’s very good.
Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback! We appreciate your insights into both its pros and cons. We apologize for any inconvenience you experienced during the setup process and while using the Technics Audio Central app. Your feedback regarding the clunky setup and the app's user interface is valuable and will be taken into consideration for potential improvements in future updates. We understand that user-friendly interfaces are essential for a seamless experience. Your feedback helps us continue to enhance our products and services to meet your needs better. -M
