There are a lot of similarities between the evil within series and resident evil and that's a good thing. The Evil Within 2 steps it up a bit with a more coherent story compared to the first game. Gameplay is solid monster shooting and surviving. With around 20 hours of content it's a sizable experience that I really enjoyed. Would definitely recommend.

    Survival Horror Refined

I’m a fan of survival horror. While the genre had, for a while, made a shift from inventory management and survival to a surplus of ammo with a focus on action, things are starting to look up with games like Outlast and the latest entry in the Resident Evil franchise. Evil Within 2 manages to create a nice bridge between survival and action by giving players a solid arsenal with just enough ammo to get yourself into trouble. Frame this in a broken world of connected minds, and you’ve got a satisfying recipe for trippy and grotesque psychological survival horror. The Evil Within 2 is a perfect example of what survival horror should be. The weapons you’re provided throughout the campaign help to keep you from feeling entirely powerless, while enticing you to be more courageous than you really should be. Ammo is extremely scarce and you may find yourself using more than you should on standard enemies instead of saving it up for boss fights. This can create a steep spike in the game’s difficulty, but that really comes down to bad planning. Inventory and resource management are a huge part of what makes this game successful as a survival horror game. You have the option to blast your enemies to oblivion and feel powerful, but that road tends to lead to an abrupt end in your power fantasy as the game’s challenging boss fights will leave you begging for mercy if unprepared. The Evil Within 2 knows exactly what it is and doesn't try so much to be an emulation of something successful as much as it is an evolution or refinement of what makes the genre so great. Despite the action and RPG elements, the game never makes you feel powerful. You're constantly going into a big fight with just enough in your inventory to make it by (provided you have the skill to survive - I did not. I died over 100 times over the course of my first playthrough on Nightmare). The marriage of concepts from Resident Evil and Silent Hill makes for a near perfect survival horror game that hearkens back to the past of the genre while driving it in new directions that haven't really been seen since Silent Hill 2 and RE4. There's a constant, looming dread of unpreparedness, incentive to avoid conflict instead of just killing everything in front of you. That paired with a story that's as absurd as it is intriguing and emotionally captivating makes for a truly remarkable gaming experience.

The first Evil Within was great, but this one is even better! The atmosphere is awesome. Evil Within 2 is less linear than the first game and more open world. You can explore as much or little as you want. Taking on side missions helps you get more supplies and learn more about the story. Highly recommended for fans of horror survival games.

The Evil Within 2 is a frightening game, though perhaps not as pants-wettingly scary as the early portions of Resident Evil 7. The game itself is improved nicely over the original, with a great open-world structure and lots of interesting missions to take on. The actual story is extremely compelling as we follow Sebastian's journey towards redemption amid a world filled with both human and inhuman monsters. If you're looking for a lengthy and frightening adventure this Halloween season, look no farther than The Evil Within 2.

I hadn't heard of this game before I bought it but after playing it (I'm about 3/4 done) I've already bought the sequel game. Playing this is like being trapped in a top flight horror movie. It plays out very well and has parts that will make you jump, no matter how much of a horror genre diehard you are. Bottom line, get it, play it and enjoy being terrified.

I haven’t beaten the game yet to give a full review but so far I love it! Slow build up in the beginning but eventually your gonna wish it was still there. The open world feel gives it scary tension build as you progress with more enemies around. Lots of stories to uncover. It’s one of the best horror games I’ve played this year next to Resident Evil 7.

If you love Resident Evil 7 then get this game. It's better than the original offering frightening moments that will give you nightmares. The mind-bending gameplay that bends reality was absolutely amazing. The story gripping and the soundtrack outstanding. This is a must buy.

If you enjoyed the first game this is more of the same in a more open world style of game. It is the same type of over the shoulder shooter as Resident Evil 4 and really reminded me of that game when I originally played the first Evil Within. Overall a really solid game anyone should be happy with.

We I really enjoyed the first one despite the controls being a bit frustrating. The sequel is a game like early Resodent Evils in gameplay yet with controls much better. It is pretty scary and dark. Def a great game that breaks the standard of all the cookie cutter stuff we get these days

really liked this game. The first one was a bit linear and not nearly as fun. This world was a bit more open, but it wasn’t as scary. Still, I found it was more fun to play because I wasn’t dying every five seconds. Overall, huge improvement on the last game! Hopefully, they do a third!

The gameplay of this title is not like the first one. There are several open world sections and the game is not scary. While the keys and upgrading different characteristics can be fun, I feel that overall the experience is underwhelming. The game is not directed by the legend in gaming who directed the original the evil within and it definitely shows. This title is not scary at all. The tense battles of the original are replaced by very average boss fights. The director on this one spent too much times trying to develop a story that, quite frankly, seems to be 2 separate stories rolled into one game. Overall, I was quite disappointed in this title. While I played the original multiple times over the past 3 years, I beat this one within a week and will be returning it shortly. I would even say that the gaming mechanics take a step back in some areas. The game is still fun, but its nowhere near the caliber of the original.

The Evil Within 2 is a perfect sequel to the first game. The story and gameplay in TEW2 makes it one of my favorite horror games of all time! Not many great horror games come out anymore, but this serves the genre justice!

I love horror games and Evil Within 2 is definitively not one to miss. The game is setting in an uninhabited city called Union, full of strange and dangerous creatures and the protagonist is after his missing daughter. Sounds like the first Silent Hill, right? Yep, the vibe is very similar, while it maintains the basic game play structure of the first Evil Within and Resident Evil 4. However, different from the previous game, this sequel features not just chasing and action sequences, but also slow pacing moments with plenty of room for exploration searching for weapons, ammo, gears and other stuff and even some few side quests, while you're in the central town. However, even enjoying this semi open world portion of the game, i think the game is better during the more linear and tense parts. Also, it's a pity that the best villain in the game, Stefano Vallentini, don't get the highlight he deserves, his chasing sequences are the best part of the game.

Played through the first game in two days time...after I finished, went right back to the beginning and started again with the upgraded weapons. Was easier to finish that one more quickly as it was far more linear and involved very little exploration. This sequel provides more open gameplay and opportunities for side missions. I did enjoy the first storyline a bit more and found the creatures far more disturbing, but this one has provided more than a few jump scares as I game away the late night hours. If you like survival horror, I don't think you'll be disappointed!
