Triws to return, took a month and then came back because they only refund for same item and that came back damaged. So it was worse than when I started the return.

I understand that this isn't a game for everyone. Some people don't like dark and bleak stories and that's completely fine. Although, unlike some, I found the story and game left me with an ultimately hopeful sense. (When you're lost in the dark, look for the light.) I'm going to separate game-play and story here for ease to talk about, but in experience they should not be separate. The gameplay feeds into the story fairly well, investing you heavily in the world around you. The Story: Last of Us Part II doesn't shy away from the ambiguous morality of surviving in a post-apocalyptic world and embraces the fact that, justified or not, actions have consequences. When met with brutality, how far can hate and pain push a person?Much of this kind of genre asks questions about what makes a person good or bad and what lines someone will cross before they become 'bad.' On its surface, Last of Us Part II embraces similar questions, but it also challenges the premise of such a question. Good or bad according to whom? A hero in one person's story may be a villain in another. Often when faced with the grim-dark and brutal protagonist who leaves a trail of bodies in their wake, we, the audience, will acknowledge that these actions are not necessarily moral but because we see them as justified we relish in them. (See the many vigilante anti-heroes out there.) This game asks us the reconsider that reflex. I won't get too far into the actual analysis of the game because that is a pursuit for after you've played it, but the simple fact that a game can spark in-depth discussion speaks to how far video games have come as a story-telling median. The Gameplay: As a technological feat, The Last of Us Part II is gorgeous. Of course the graphics are beautiful and the score, although more subdued than in the first game, is haunting. The sound design and attention to detail is incredible. If you can, take every advantage of whatever surround sound capabilities you have. Hearing footsteps running up behind me or the rumble of thunder all around me really helped make the immersion of the game. The voice acting is excellent and mo-cap has come such a long way that there is acting even within a character's body language and facial expression. One of the achievements of this game is the extensive accessibility features. The game allows for changing the difficulty level of individual aspects such as the perceptiveness of enemies, the availability of supplies, the helpfulness of your allies, etc. There is also a wide variety of settings to aid people with physical limitations such as vision or motor skills, opening the experience up to more players than ever before. The other main aspect is just how fun the combat system is. The AI can be incredibly smart in this game, going so far as to flank you or sneak around quietly enough to thwart your listen ability. You have the ability to go prone, crawling under cars and desks to shoot at legs. You can climb up onto trucks and buildings to jump down on unsuspecting enemies. There are new craftables along with some old favorites from the first game. You can sneak through, laying traps and avoiding conflict or you can go Full Rambo, grabbing human shields, pitting enemies against each other, and just wreaking havoc. Once you've completed it, the game gives you the ability to go back and just replay an encounter if you want, because the combat can be stand-alone fun. Conclusion: I don't mean to sounds like I am just gushing over everything in this game. There are some valid criticisms. Some of the fights can feel repetitive when you're anxious to move along the story and there are some odd pacing issues in the mid-way point of the game - although they bothered me less on replays. The trophies are disappointing and uninspired - only covering your basic 'complete the game' and 'find all the stuff' categories. This is a very violent and graphic game, making the attention to detail downright gruesome at times. Although I found a kernel of hope in the game, others did not and there's no denying that this game can be an emotionally heavy experience. That being said, I highly highly recommend the game. (And if you've stuck with me this long, sorry for the failure in brevity.) The story takes about 25 hours and the game replays very nicely. I have already gotten well past my money's worth and I'm still going.

The Last of Us Part II is a masterclass in storytelling and gameplay. The visuals are stunning, making every moment feel cinematic, and the combat is extremely tense and satisfying with a perfect blend of stealth, survival, and action. The story is gripping and emotional with some bold twists and every choice feels impactful. It's not an easy ride: the violence and themes can be intense, but that only adds to its depth and realism. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a powerful, unforgettable gaming experience.

They improved a lot from "The Last of Us." Graphics are detailed and characters more lifelike. Combat is more visceral and intense. Story is great, but it may not be for everyone. The only flaw with the game is the pacing with the dual storylines. You are invested with the current storyline and then boom pause current storyline and switch characters. Sure it gives us insight on what is going on and sets up on what we can expect, but makes the game feel longer than it should. Note for anyone starting this game 1st time. The prologue I think is the longest part of the game. I clocked in almost 2hr 40mins. At least you can save anywhere where you are not in combat. Also be prepared to take some long breaks to process what just happened.

This game is a masterpiece. While there is a certain plot point that has angered many fans I feel that while I wasn't a fan of the decision it made sense for the story. The game creates a beautfiul story about revenge and shows two women trying to overcome that cycle of violence of revenge. There are also similar themes to the first game like finding family which I really love. The combat in the game is great and brutal and everything feels smooth and well animated. The visuals are stunning especially in HDR. The performances are superb especially Ashley Johnson and Laura Bailey's. Shannon Woodward and Troy Baker are also great in the game along with the supporting cast. The whole team at Naughty Dog has done an amazing job with this game. The only problem I had with the game was a bit of a pacing problem when the character we play switches after playing a large chunk as one of them. I would have preferred more of a back and forth because that might have made it flow better but other than that I don't have really many complaints. Any I do are just minor gripes that don't take away from how excellent this game is so it still deserves five stars in my eyes. It isn't perfect, nothing is, but it is an amazing game

A moving story of revenge vs. radical empathy that is supported by brutal & tense gameplay, incredible graphics, phenomenal acting, and immersive sound design. I couldn't put this down until I was finished. I'm still mulling over the ending. So many unforgettable sequences. Naughty Dog amplified all the best traits of the original and fully leaned into the horror elements of this world. So much detail & love has been poured into every frame, environment, and character. Everything serves to build upon & elevate the themes of this morally gray world. There's a small, but vocal, minority of players that have been review-bombing this game due to bold - and some would say divisive - story choices. And I could see how some of those choices could be upsetting. My only (minor) complaint with this game would be the pacing in a few sections. However, if you're willing to be patient & strap in for an emotional rollercoaster, I can't possibly imagine being disappointed with this game. 9.5/10. A must play.

I know this game is very divisive. I honestly wasn’t too excited to play it because I didn’t like the first one. It’s one of those situations where I know it tells a pretty good story, but it’s just so boring to play. I have to say I’m pleasantly surprised by this second entry though. It doesn’t feel as slowly paced as the first one. I’m about ten hours in and my ADD hasn’t taken me out of the experience once whereas I only played about five hours of the first game and I wanted to blow my brains out I was so bored. Not a bad story; just a bad game in the case of the first one. So far this one is both a good story and a good game. So far anyway.

The first The Last of Us game is a classic for a reasons with emotional storytelling, fantastic music and gripping characters. The sequel to such a compelling game is going to be hard to top. In many ways Naughty Dog achieves this and other ways they do not. The combat, environments and most characters are fantastic and really make this an amazing game to experience. However the pacing and some narrative moments were a little weaker in this sequel but overall it is as good or better than the original.

Nothing comes close to the quality of this game. They’ve somehow managed to improve on the first one in every way. The story telling, visuals, sound design, animation, and gameplay create a next level experience. Playing at night with a pair of headphones is extremely intense. Can’t wait to see what this studio creates for the PS5. Whatever it is it will be another day 1 purchase.

    A novelist’s video game...

I feel it’s important to start this review with a simple statement: I love reading books, and I love the medium of books. Words literally cost nothing, and when used correctly, they can take you absolutely anywhere. Everything is possible. This statement is important to how I view The Last Of Us: Part Two. Now, I wouldn’t be reviewing Part 2 without having enjoyed the first part - in fact, I loved the first so much, I was content with not having a sequel. But given the financial gain and critical success of The Last Of Us, there was no doubt we were getting a sequel. Naming a sequel “Part Two” immediately comes off as novel-esque, implying we are now playing something that is PART of more, making everything that came before liable for its actions - including, and especially, our characters, Joel and Ellie. All I could think was: nothing is sacred anymore - I have read far too many books to know better. And clearly, not only was I right, I was among the few. It wasn’t until TLOU2 that I realized how very different the medium of books and the medium of video games were in their ability to tell stories. Previous to this game, I would’ve said that games are extremely close to being able to tell large scale, time-spanning, character evolving stories, and the audience is mostly adept enough to experience these stories. Especially after the likes of Red Dead Redemption 2. Ask me now, and my answer would be different. Though, it is clear that creators in the game medium have big novel-esque stories that they want to tell, and the interactive immersion of video games is still very promising for individuals looking to push and evolve the medium. And as of this writing, there simply is no game out there with the massive amount of success in providing this special experience than The Last Of Us Part One and Two as a whole - this is a story that spans time, characters, locations, and delivers a tale that is meant to create conversations, challenges perceptions. And even leaves you feeling just as raw as the characters you control. If it’s not clear, I’m doing my best to talk and dance around the details on this one, as there’s spoilers around every corner. Even the way the story unravels itself gives off spoilers that are too good to reveal. So, this is one of those games that just needs to be experienced and judged on its own merits for each individual. Gameplay is incredibly similar to the first game, starting the player off with the same techniques that we left off with in the original. From there, we are given different tools, but still more of the same in terms of gameplay, and that goes for gunplay too. Everything does have a nice polish job on it, making the game feel overall smoother and more agile than the original, but no need to fix what isn’t broken here. That said, battles with the different enemy types is still incredibly tense and visceral - man, this is a mean game. Their are several new factions and enemies introduced into this game, as well as some from the first game, but these new factions will often leave one too anxious to even more, let alone strategize against them. And it all descends into the heart of darkness as each hour of the game passes. Speaking of which, this entry is much longer than the previous, almost twice as long - 20-30 hours. As said by the creators, this story, unlike the story of bonding and fear of loss of the first game, this second time around is focused on hatred and the cycles that drive us when consumed by it. Obviously, this outing is a lot more brooding than the last, and the game shows us how unrelenting its going to be from very early on. Rather than feeling like the player is pushing Ellie further along, it feels more like Ellie is pulling us deeper and deeper into a rabbit hole we don’t want to follow her down. Each action carrying its worth in weight. And this carries over to a new character that the player controls throughout the game - the cycle picking up and continuing to show us the full circle of violence and hatred, that which consumes so many within TLOU2. The game even goes as far as to hand the entire reigns of this character over for to the player for nearly half the game - something that feels redundant and repetitive, but is actually a bold move in shifting story perspective to build a bigger and even more brooding climax. In no way do we get reliability or relaxation with this character, but a deeper understanding of the reality of the world we are participating in, and just how dangerous everything is in the despair. By the end, I felt exhausted and emotionally depleted, but I also left thinking a lot about every aspect I had just experienced, how full my creative appetite was, and how the actions presented to me to finish this story were unlikely to ever be attempted in video games for a very long time, if ever again. The game had ended like a masterpiece novel, without the resolutions that really wanted, but everything the characters deserved, based on their momentary actions and beliefs - for good or bad.

Quite possibly the best story ever written.

I’ll start by simply saying that The Last of Us Part II is, in my opinion, the best game ever made, and I don’t say this lightly as the Mass Effect Trilogy held that title for nearly a decade. Not only that, it’s the single most emotional story I’ve ever experienced. Better than any film, TV show, theatre production, poem, song, or book. It is terrifying, sad, brutal, funny, and utterly compelling from beginning to end. I remember first playing The Last of Us seven years ago (which you need to play before this one - the remastered version is super cheap these days so you have no excuses regarding it). It told a deep story about flawed people making choices in the worst circumstances. It made the player think: would I have made the same choice? Personally, I would have made the same choice as Joel at the end of the game. It wasn’t the right choice, but it was the one in my heart at that moment. It was the first time that a game had actually made me mad, not at the game but with it. Fast-forward to a few years ago when The Last of Us Part II was announced, I wanted a sequel of the quality that only Neil Druckmann (Writer/Director) and Naughty Dog Studios could make. I also knew what the plot would be about. Then the game was released last week. I started playing it and found out how wrong in my predictions I was. Further, I wasn’t ready for what Druckmann had cooked up. A couple hours into the game and I was sitting on the couch with my mouth open in shock. We weren’t clicking our red shoes and flying back to Kansas. This was a dark, gritty, terrible world of the likes that I thought I was prepared for but really wasn’t. Oh boy, Game of Thrones and Shakespeare have nothing on The Last of Us. One of the key elements of the storytelling is the complicity it builds. There are advantages to certain types of media, and The Last of Us Part II leverages these at every turn. The agency games can give to the player are terrible burden. Being a game allows it to force you, the player, to take actions and be complicit in the result. On at least two occasions, I didn’t want to be fighting, but I couldn’t stop. Where I once believed I was righteous, the world became much murkier and I only wanted to win to see the story continue. About halfway through the game, the story took a turn that spins everything on its head. Up is down, right is wrong. At the time, I saw what the writers were going to do, and laughed to myself, “No way they’ll convince me to believe in this.” And yet, they convinced me. The writers made morality so incredibly messy, managing the situation in a way that only games can: by letting you walk a mile in someone else’s shoes and letting you bond with them. This and other psychological tricks the game pulled throughout were as stunning as they were devastatingly effective. For instance, in one sequence the game forced me into a fight I’d been dreading, but it twists it by making my character be the hunted one. This made me violently push back and look at the situation in a different light, even though I was hunted by one of my heroes. Throughout, the game played on my emotions by making me expect something around the every corner. Often, I found an abandoned building, allowing me to release a sigh of relief. With this tension, the game manages my expectations beautifully, contradicting them at every turn without being disappointing. The plot twists mix randomness with suspense to make the story unpredictable in the best possible way. I couldn’t predict if a character will live or die. The world was simply and patently unfair, but beautifully so. They might be killed in an instant when I wasn’t expecting it or as part of a longer tense scene. This balance is critical, too often important deaths are the climax of a scene rather than an introduction to one, making them more predictable than they should be. In books, movies, or TV shows, you know the ending is coming. For books, you can physically see the remaining pages gradually lessening. Here, I always thought the game’s ending was approaching, but there was always more. They say “Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves.” Never has this been truer for a story. The journey was what mattered. This one was beautiful and terrible, bringing out smiles, love, panic, pain, regret, and sadness. It was art of the highest quality.

This a heartbreaking story. I thought the story had a good plot line but, I wished the pacing and plot points were switched so it could had been a mystery and not slow down the gameplay. Wished there was more gameplay elements in between scenes, and more Side character/npc interractions. Like GOW and Horizon has side character missions that make me bond with those characters. It felt lacking on this game. I felt the controversial part of the game could had been executed better by not showing us outright the MAIN scene, but show Ellie going through he first two victims and her hallucinating that one person before it was revealed the MAIN scene. Stuff like that would had invested people more on Abby instead outright hating on her. Wished they showed Abby having a similar meltdown to Ellie when she heard her friends were killed. Hopefully they wrap up her story in part 3 because this one ended on a bigger cliffhanger than part 1.

Just completed my roughly 25 hour long play through of this game and wow...I'm absolutely blown away. The Last Of Us holds a special place in my heart as it's the main reason I decided to buy a PS4 and it eventually went on to become my all-time favorite video game. The way that first game pushed the boundaries for storytelling in gaming while introducing us to unforgettable characters in Joel and Ellie. I had never experienced so many emotions playing a video game before and had never experienced anything like it since. That is, until I started playing Part II last week. I went into TLOP2 completely unspoiled and if you can manage to do the same, I highly recommend you do because that's the way to go. Experiencing all of the highs, lows, twists, turns, trials and tribulations over those 25 hours was something that I'll never forget. The gameplay and graphics are a huge leap forward from the first game, but what makes this game special to me is the storytelling. I was already emotionally invested in the characters for the first game, and NO SPOILERS, but what they go through in this second game made me latch onto them even more than I thought possible. Also, the new characters and the world building really make this a standout sequel that actually dares to take risks and do something original, rather than try to lazily rehash the hugely successful first game. The folks over at Naughty Dog deserve all the credit in the world for doing the impossible and crafting a sequel that is at least on par with the original, and in some ways, even surpasses it. Just like I did with the first game, I fully plan on replaying the story multiple times (and that's not something I often do with video games). There's just so much depth and so much care put into this game, I can't wait to rediscover all of my favorite parts and spot the little details I missed before. If you're a fan of TLOU, I can understand why certain aspects of this game might initially upset you or cause you to question certain things...stick with it. It's a breathtaking ride and one you will be glad you took by the end.

The Last of Us Part 2 is great sequel! The gameplay is amazing, the graphics are superb, and the way two stories intertwine is excellent writing! I really like that you need to scavenger for resources and use ammo and other resources wisely at each encounter. There is a ton of strategy involved within the game. However, the ending is bad. Personally, it didn't ruin the game but I thought it could have been a lot better. I believe that the last 10%-15% of the game is unnecessary. Overall, TLOUS part 2 is worth adding to your collection based on gameplay, strategy, graphics and re-playability. Plus you may enjoy the ending better than I did.

"The Last of Us" is a groundbreaking masterpiece that seamlessly blends intense gameplay with a deeply emotional narrative. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, the game's meticulous attention to detail and stunning graphics create a hauntingly immersive atmosphere. The characters, particularly Joel and Ellie, are brilliantly written and expertly portrayed, making players genuinely care about their journey. The gameplay mechanics strike a perfect balance between stealth, combat, and exploration, offering a satisfying challenge. The game's storytelling is its crown jewel, tackling complex themes of survival, morality, and the bonds that form in dire circumstances. The haunting score complements the experience, enhancing the emotional resonance. "The Last of Us" is a landmark achievement in gaming, delivering an unforgettable, thought-provoking adventure that lingers long after the credits roll.

The first game is one of my all time favorites, and I was excited to see that they were making this. Got a little worried for the game after seeing the leaks but after playing the game myself, I can gladly say it has better gameplay than the first and I really enjoyed the story though I don’t think it’s has good as the first, the reason why I call it a beautiful mess is mostly because the section of the game with Abby was were I have most of my problems with the story and the ending is not nearly as good as the first. Honestly I wish I could go more into that but anyone whose play the game or has watched a play through knows what I’m talking about. 8/10
