I understand that this isn't a game for everyone. Some people don't like dark and bleak stories and that's completely fine. Although, unlike some, I found the story and game left me with an ultimately hopeful sense. (When you're lost in the dark, look for the light.) I'm going to separate game-play and story here for ease to talk about, but in experience they should not be separate. The gameplay feeds into the story fairly well, investing you heavily in the world around you. The Story: Last of Us Part II doesn't shy away from the ambiguous morality of surviving in a post-apocalyptic world and embraces the fact that, justified or not, actions have consequences. When met with brutality, how far can hate and pain push a person?Much of this kind of genre asks questions about what makes a person good or bad and what lines someone will cross before they become 'bad.' On its surface, Last of Us Part II embraces similar questions, but it also challenges the premise of such a question. Good or bad according to whom? A hero in one person's story may be a villain in another. Often when faced with the grim-dark and brutal protagonist who leaves a trail of bodies in their wake, we, the audience, will acknowledge that these actions are not necessarily moral but because we see them as justified we relish in them. (See the many vigilante anti-heroes out there.) This game asks us the reconsider that reflex. I won't get too far into the actual analysis of the game because that is a pursuit for after you've played it, but the simple fact that a game can spark in-depth discussion speaks to how far video games have come as a story-telling median. The Gameplay: As a technological feat, The Last of Us Part II is gorgeous. Of course the graphics are beautiful and the score, although more subdued than in the first game, is haunting. The sound design and attention to detail is incredible. If you can, take every advantage of whatever surround sound capabilities you have. Hearing footsteps running up behind me or the rumble of thunder all around me really helped make the immersion of the game. The voice acting is excellent and mo-cap has come such a long way that there is acting even within a character's body language and facial expression. One of the achievements of this game is the extensive accessibility features. The game allows for changing the difficulty level of individual aspects such as the perceptiveness of enemies, the availability of supplies, the helpfulness of your allies, etc. There is also a wide variety of settings to aid people with physical limitations such as vision or motor skills, opening the experience up to more players than ever before. The other main aspect is just how fun the combat system is. The AI can be incredibly smart in this game, going so far as to flank you or sneak around quietly enough to thwart your listen ability. You have the ability to go prone, crawling under cars and desks to shoot at legs. You can climb up onto trucks and buildings to jump down on unsuspecting enemies. There are new craftables along with some old favorites from the first game. You can sneak through, laying traps and avoiding conflict or you can go Full Rambo, grabbing human shields, pitting enemies against each other, and just wreaking havoc. Once you've completed it, the game gives you the ability to go back and just replay an encounter if you want, because the combat can be stand-alone fun. Conclusion: I don't mean to sounds like I am just gushing over everything in this game. There are some valid criticisms. Some of the fights can feel repetitive when you're anxious to move along the story and there are some odd pacing issues in the mid-way point of the game - although they bothered me less on replays. The trophies are disappointing and uninspired - only covering your basic 'complete the game' and 'find all the stuff' categories. This is a very violent and graphic game, making the attention to detail downright gruesome at times. Although I found a kernel of hope in the game, others did not and there's no denying that this game can be an emotionally heavy experience. That being said, I highly highly recommend the game. (And if you've stuck with me this long, sorry for the failure in brevity.) The story takes about 25 hours and the game replays very nicely. I have already gotten well past my money's worth and I'm still going.

Triws to return, took a month and then came back because they only refund for same item and that came back damaged. So it was worse than when I started the return.

The Last of Us Part II is a masterclass in storytelling and gameplay. The visuals are stunning, making every moment feel cinematic, and the combat is extremely tense and satisfying with a perfect blend of stealth, survival, and action. The story is gripping and emotional with some bold twists and every choice feels impactful. It's not an easy ride: the violence and themes can be intense, but that only adds to its depth and realism. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a powerful, unforgettable gaming experience.

The Last of Us Part II completely pulled me in from the start. The story is powerful and emotional, and the characters feel so real. I found myself totally invested in every decision and twist. The graphics are stunning, and the gameplay is smooth and intense. It’s not just a game, it’s an experience. The world feels alive, and exploring it kept me hooked for hours. I played it late into the night because I just had to see what happened next. This is one of the best games I’ve ever played. If you haven’t tried it, you’re missing out.

They improved a lot from "The Last of Us." Graphics are detailed and characters more lifelike. Combat is more visceral and intense. Story is great, but it may not be for everyone. The only flaw with the game is the pacing with the dual storylines. You are invested with the current storyline and then boom pause current storyline and switch characters. Sure it gives us insight on what is going on and sets up on what we can expect, but makes the game feel longer than it should. Note for anyone starting this game 1st time. The prologue I think is the longest part of the game. I clocked in almost 2hr 40mins. At least you can save anywhere where you are not in combat. Also be prepared to take some long breaks to process what just happened.

[Potential spoilers within this review] Knowing the mixed reviews this game had before I played it may have colored my perception of it, but I still found it to be overall enjoyable with some elements holding it back. Pros: -I was a fan of the story. Even though there were some inconsistencies with certain story beats compared to the first game (like Joel's personality/habits as an example), I appreciate that this game tried to do something different and tell a different kind of story. -Although they didn't feel that varied, I appreciate that the game had more variety of enemies when compared to the first game. -The graphics were amazing and I felt more immersed in the game because of it. -The gameplay was a bit more polished compared to the first game, even if they didn't expand on things too much. Cons: -The second half of the game felt slow and somewhat forced at times. I was annoyed by the rewinding of time to play as a whole other character that I didn't feel much of a connection to. This made the game feel like it was outstaying its welcome. -As mentioned before, there were some inconsistencies with story beats such as Joel revealing his identity or the way the main story ended before jumping ahead in time. -Some of the open-world sections were a bit too open-world for my taste. It just felt like I was constantly scavenging and it slowed down the pace of the game.

Just like the first game, which is one of my top 10 games ever, The Last of Us Part II is an absolute masterpiece. Brilliant story that brings the feels, fun and brutal combat, creepy at times, and jaw dropping visuals. All the difficulty options, unlockable cheats, visual changes, character model viewer, and then some are present. The game set the standard for accessibility options. I have never seen such an array of options prior to it. One thing that did surprise me, was the length of the game. TLOU2 is significantly longer than the first, which is necessary for the story Naughty Dog wants to tell, but I do think that takes away from the replay value a bit. The first game was like the perfect length and I replayed it many times. Don't see myself doing that again, but I have beat it twice thus far. Not a big deal, the game is still a must buy!!

Nothing comes close to the quality of this game. They’ve somehow managed to improve on the first one in every way. The story telling, visuals, sound design, animation, and gameplay create a next level experience. Playing at night with a pair of headphones is extremely intense. Can’t wait to see what this studio creates for the PS5. Whatever it is it will be another day 1 purchase.

Just finished The Last of Us Part II on PS5—what a ride. The story is emotional, dark, and powerful. Gameplay is tight and stealth-focused, with intense action moments. The characters feel real, and the visuals are top-notch. It's a heavy experience, but one that sticks with you.

The main reason I converted back to PlayStation (PS2) from XBox was primarily due to this game series and it did NOT disappoint. The graphics, storyline, characters, attention to detail and gameplay are captivating. This will definitely be a game I play through multiple times. To this day I can’t decide which part of the game was better, the gameplay or the story/attachment to characters. Naughtydog and their partners spared no expense and took no shortcuts into producing this game. The game/story is quite long and gives you a deep dive into characters’ perspectives that sucks you further into the game. Highly HIGHLY recommend!!!

I have been waiting on this game for 6 years. The first is one of my favorite games ever. I have beat the first one 4 times and it is still pretty emotional every time. I don’t agree with all the story choices but it is still a great game. The story, graphics, gameplay are all amazing. I have only beat it once but I plan to beat several times over the next couple of years. There are so many ways to play the game, which add to the replay value. The game forces you to do some things you do not want to but in the end you understand what they were trying to do. I don’t see how anyone could complete this game and not love.

This is the best game of the year so far. I love almost everything about this game. I think it’s very different from the first one. This was a roller coaster like no other. This sucked me in and kept me until I beat it. I’m not sure why it got bad reviews. No game to date has pulled on my feelings and hart like this one. Graphics are great and Cut scenes looked even better. It puts Far Cry 6 to shame. Everything about this game is truly amazing. I would recommend this game to everyone! Way to go team!! You did it on this one.

I'm not a fan of sequels, I wasn't even looking forward to this game but wanted something to play. It was fun gameplay-wise but got repetitive at times. The story was okay but gets really messy and can be controversial. Felt like things were getting dragged on way too long. I was over the game the moment I finished it, there were many things that annoyed me compared to the first one which I and my wife were enyoying the whole time. I would get lazy to continue this game at times.

I’ve read reviews that are in favor of this game, and I’ve read those that felt it was dull and repetitive. There are many similarities between part 1 & 2 but I personally love that about this series. The gameplay and characters are familiar, but there are many upgraded features and a wonderful storyline. If I had one gripe it would be the scenes that you can’t skip. I like to watch the story/‘film’ scenes the first time through the game, but when playing for a 2nd time they are a bit tough to sit through.

The Last of Us Part II may subvert your every expectation, but it is nonetheless a worthy sequel to one of the best games of the last generation. Its gameplay, level design, and aesthetic style are brilliant and improve upon the foundation laid in The Last of Us in every conceivable way. The story, in Naughty Dog fashion, presents itself with maturity and finesse. The game will have you on the edge of your seat all the way through, and it will leave you thinking about it for weeks after the credits roll.
