Sore Muscles? You Need a Theragun from Therabody!

I’ve been using my new Theragun Sense, from Therabody, for a week now. This is my first ever experience with a Theragun and I had no idea what I was missing! Therabody, was created in 2008 by Dr. Jason Wersland, who invented the first ever hand-held massage device, after an accident left him in debilitating pain. Today, Therabody, is the go-to company for hand-held massage devices, which are incredibly well made, easy to use and OH SO effective. Their devices combine scientific research, cutting edge technology and real feedback for easy to use solutions which help reduce pain, stress and tension and all I can say is it works. When you get your Theragun, it comes well packaged, with the device in a nice protective soft case, the USB C charging cable, two massage attachments, a booklet entitled Unit Warnings and some cards, which guide you to learn about routines you can set up in the App from Therabody. Instead of a printed Quick Start Guide, when you open the box, it’s printed on the inside of box. The directions are plain and simple, and you scan the QR code to download the app to your iOS or Android phone. Logging in to the app, was simple and straightforward. I charged it first, then the app walks you through connecting your device, which was easy enough. I’m honestly not sure what to say about the App. It could be intimidating to some, but you can choose from 4 pre-programmed routines for different body parts and muscle groups, which then sends that to the device, and they run in 5-minute intervals. There’s an LCD screen on the device, which will show what routine is being used with guidance to show you where to massage and for how long. You can turn the intensity up or down, via the two buttons above and below the LCD screen. Overall, while I’m sure the app may be useful to some, I’ll be more inclined to just power up the Sense and use it on sore muscles as opposed to running a routine. I mentioned there are two massage attachments. One is the standard ball which is attached out of the box. The other is a Dampener which is wider and designed to blunt the percussive force of the device, providing a gentler, low-impact massage ideal for sensitive or tender areas of the body. What I had no clue was how exactly to replace one for the other. There really is no full user guide and I didn’t want to break the device out of the box, so I wound up watching a YouTube video which clearly showed how to remove and replace the attachment. Simply said, you pull it with some force as it’s attached over a bearing, which you then align the other attachment over and push in place. Overall, I’m really loving my new Theragun Sense, from Therabody. It’s truly well made. It’s easy to use. It’s remarkably quiet in use. And it feels GREAT on sore muscles! If you have any soreness as most of us do, this is a great investment for sure.

This massage gun is easy to hold and use. It’s helpful that it comes with two attachments depending on what you're using it for. It has the regular and then one you use for more sensitive areas. It has 5 speed levels. It had some charge right out of the box, but I charged it fully before my first use. I’ve been using it all week and it’s still about half charged. It comes with a nice carrying case that fits the gun, the attachments, the 3 quick start massage cards as well as the charging cord. The app is a great addition and I highly recommend trying it out. Once you connect it to the app, you have lots of options, depending on the type of goals and activities you select. It offers guided options that guide you in what part of the body to use it on, how long, what speed, and when it’s time to move to the next part. The routines that I now use regularly are sleep prep and sitting recovery options for the times when I have to spend hours working on reports. You can, of course, you can just pick it up to use wherever you need without the app too. You can also use the guided routines directly from the screen on the gun, which is a great option if one of the little ones is using my phone. I look forward to using it each day for different reasons. The guided routines are not too long, they are about 3-8 minutes depending on which I use. I use this massage gun all the time, after I work out, when I’m sitting for a long time, when I wake up in the morning, before bed and then any other time that I might need it. Especially when I have back aches and tension headaches. It has made such a big difference in how I feel. Now that I have it, I can’t imagine not using it. It really works. My body feels so much better, it relieves my soreness and makes me feel more relaxed each time I use it. But it doesn’t make me tired, it just makes me feel well. I think I will have to buy one for Christmas for the family to share. This way, I can hide this one so that I have access to it whenever I want. They all think this is great and love using it so at times, I have to wait my turn.

Good massager but not great value compared to the prime plus or other models in their line up. Also looks like they removed the biometrics and breathwork from gen 1. I would consider other options when spending this much on a massager.

I have been using this Theragun for a couple weeks and it has become my preferred device for relaxation following a demanding workday or workout. I often experience shoulder tension from prolonged computer use, and this massage gun provides targeted relief without the excessive intensity found in some other models I have tried. I like the design. It is lightweight and compact, allowing me to retrieve it easily from my bedside table or include it in my travel bag. The triangular handle allows for use on the back without uncomfortable positioning, and it operates with minimal noise. The integrated screen is a useful feature too. It provides step by step guidance for routines The app is fairly useful too. Connecting via Bluetooth enables personalized recommendations based on my current needs, such as a brief back treatment or a treatment before bed. It offers five speed settings up to 2,400 percussions per minute, using gentle therapy rather than forceful impact. It's suitable for someone like me who is not a professional athlete. The battery lasts for multiple uses, though it could be extended for more intensive applications. Pros: Intuitive with guided programs, premium construction, effective for routine stress and discomfort, and the attachments address a variety of requirements. It has notably enhanced my sleep quality and reduced ongoing tightness. Cons: Price. It is somewhat expensive, and for those seeking vigorous deep-tissue massage, a more powerful option would be preferable. Additionally, the carrying case lacks would be better as a hardcase rather than soft. But if you are in search of an intelligent tool for daily relaxation rather than heavy-duty recovery, I recommend it.

Great to use after a long bike ride!

This is my second Theragun product that I have ever owned. I had one many years ago but I never used it that much because it always felt a little bit too intense for me. I felt like I was possibly doing more harm than good. I’m getting up there in age and have a physical lifestyle and find myself with lots of aches and pains, so I decided to give these another try. My main activity is biking and I wanted something to help the large muscles in my legs recover better from long bike rides. I often do 40–50-mile ride. Out of the box this feels like a very solid product. Nothing about it feels cheap or flimsy, and for what it does, you definitely want something that’s well built and will be able to handle the constant vibrations. It comes with different massaging heads so you can use them if you want a harder, or more softer feeling massage. They are easy to replace simply by firmly putting one off and then pushing on the new one. No tools or anything else is needed. There is a companion app you can download for your phone which gives you different routines and to help guide you through exactly how to use your Thereagun to get the best results. To turn it on, you just hold the button that is under the screen. If you push the button once more after it turns on it will start running. Or, if you hold the button again you can easily go through a few guided presets depending on what you want to ork on such as sleep prep, tension & relief, lower body recovery, and a few other options. While it is running you can easily adjust the speed of the device to make it a little gentler, or more intense. Once you get it running, you simply glide it over the area you want to work on, and let the Theragun work its magic. I found that its design helps to always make it easy to grip whether you are working on something easy to reach like you leg, or something harder to reach like you back or shoulders. I found this one to not be as intense as one I have used before. I felt that it helped soothe my muscles after a long bike ride just by simply running it up and down my muscles for a few minutes right after a ride. I noticed my muscled didn’t feel as tight as they normally would after a long ride. This Theragun also has a cool feature where it can monitor your heart rate as well through its built-in biometric sensor. Overall, I think this is a big improvement over the one that I had used many years ago. It gives you a good range of intensities to make sure you get just the right amount of massage that you need. The companion all is also very helpful to instruct you on how to use the product as well. I will definitely be reaching for this after every bike ride from now on!

    Good introductory device for beginners

INTRODUCTION: This is my first high-end handheld massage tool, and I was eager to try it out. I have neck pain, shoulder pain, back pain, and the occasional leg pain from years of carrying heavy backpacks, purses, and standing and walking for long periods of time in the wrong shoes. I really need to go to a chiropractor, but in the meantime, I wanted something that I could use at home. When the opportunity came for me to try this, I jumped on it. The Therabody Theragun Sense comes with two massage attachments: a dampener for concentrated tender areas (such as my sore shoulders), and a standard ball attachment that is bigger in size and is meant for general use anywhere on the body. Neither ball attachment is soft; both attachments are pretty firm. DESIGN & SPECS: The Therabody Theragun Sense comes with five percussion speeds ranging from 1750 to 2400. It also comes with four pre-programmed routines set at different time intervals, such as sleep prep for six minutes, 3:30 minutes for back pain, four minutes for tension relief, and one called lower body recovery for 8:30 minutes. The instruction pamphlet also comes with three routine guides which tell you step by step how to hold the device, which attachment to use, and on what areas. The Theragun Sense is Bluetooth enabled, so you can sync it to the Therabody app on your phone where you can further customize routines. You can also download up to five routines from the app onto the device. Personally, I don’t use the app, as the pre-installed routines are enough for me. The LCD screen will show you how much pressure you’re using; if you are using a lot of force, you will see the LCD screen switch from the speed screen to a bar screen. If you’re seeing bars displayed on the screen, you are using a lot of pressure. The higher up the bars are means the more pressure you are using, less amount of bars on the screen means less pressure. Everyone is different; I personally do not like to use too much pressure while using the Sense because this is a powerful device; you will absolutely hurt yourself if you use this incorrectly. If you are experiencing more than the moderate amount of pain and discomfort while using the Sense, you might want to adjust how much pressure you’re using to avoid hurting yourself. PROS: I really like that the Theragun Sense massage gun comes with a pouch to keep it in. I think this would be good for traveling. I like that the device is fairly easy to use while also being not too heavy; it weighs almost two pounds (or 1.61 pounds). I have weak wrists, so I need a device that is lightweight and easier to hold for long periods of time. I also like that Therabody installed massage routines onto the Sense for all areas of the body because it means I don’t have to guess what to do nor the amount of time needed to do it. After turning it on, I pick a routine, place the massage gun on the area illustrated on the LCD screen, and let the Theragun Sense take care of the rest. I use what is depicted on the screen as a guide to make sure I have the device placed in the right spot. I use the routines for tension relief and back pain the most. If you don’t want to use the installed routines, you can use the “quick start” mode, or what I refer to as a free style mode and use the machine wherever you’d like for as long as you like. This mode comes with customizable speeds, and I prefer to keep it at its lowest speed (1750) while using on tender areas such as my shoulders and neck area. I appreciate that the Sense does have five speeds because sometimes the maximum speed (2400) can be too much on my body. Lastly, I like the design of the Theragun Sense. Due to the triangled shape of the ergonomic handle, you can grip the device from at least three angles. This design enables you to use the Sense on any area of your body, including lower back, buttocks, legs, and feet. The Sense has a relatively quiet motor, so even in its fastest setting it’s still quiet to use and shouldn’t disturb others around you, though it’s obviously quieter on the 1750 speed compared to the 2400 speed. CONS: I wish it came with more than two attachments for variety and for different size preferences. It’s disappointing that it doesn’t, since the first-generation model came with four attachments. I also wish it came with a charging brick as opposed to only the USB-C charging cable. Also, the ball attachments can be hard to remove at times, and it takes some getting used to figuring out how hard to pull them off; I was scared I was going to break it when I first attempted to remove it (mine came with the dampener on and I was attempting to switch to the standard attachment). Lastly, I would have liked to have 1200 and 1400 percussion speeds included on the device for an even gentler experience. If you’re really sensitive to the percussions per minute, you might find the Sense uncomfortable to use. CONCLUSION: If you work a desk job like I do, and if you’re like me and don’t have the best posture, you will want something quick and easy to relieve your pain in between your visits to the chiropractor. You don’t need to use the Therabody app to enjoy using this, and it does provide fast temporary relief. It is safe to use daily. I recommend the Sense for athletes, gym users, people with healed muscle injuries that still get pain, and for tension pain sufferers in their neck and back like me.

Context: I’m a 20-ish miles per week runner, an occasional cyclist, and still have the goal of at least one more PR marathon and a few more ultras before more grandkids arrive. All that to say, I’m frequently a little tender and the opportunity to try out the Therabody - Theragun Sense (2nd Generation) Massage Gun sounded great! I purchased an on-sale Amazon generic brand massage gun on sale years ago and was already convinced that the concept was great and could provide regular relief from sore, stiff or tender muscles. It only last a few months, though. From others, I knew that Therabody is a well-known and respected brand with a whole line of massagers for different purposes. Since I’m not a huge fan of deep tissue massage, the more gentle-sounding Therabody - Theragun Sense (2nd Generation) Massage Gun made sense. What I like about it: • Eases the everyday aches: Whether you’ve been pounding the pavement or just chasing the grandkids around, a few minutes with this and you’re so relaxed! • It’s quiet & lasts a couple hours (for when all those around you want to try as well and/or so you don’t to constantly recharge it) • It’s got built-in guides that show you where to press and for how long. I’ve not used these much as I can generally figure out what’s working and what’s not, but I have tried the routines and if you’re simply baffled it may help. • Adjustable speed is a feature my prior massager didn’t have that I’ve enjoyed • The handle’s shaped so you can get to those tricky spots on your back or legs without twisting yourself into a pretzel. Comes with two heads — one soft for tender spots, one firm for the big muscles. All in all, a solid product that won’t disappoint after a long day!

We’ve had a larger, more powerful massager for a few years, mainly for muscle knots from IT band syndrome and occasional recovery. It was effective and recommended by our physical therapist, but it was a basic, non-smart device; for some reason, we eventually stopped using it. We never realized how much of a difference guided programs could make until we tried the Theragun Sense. The built-in routines have been a game changer. Since most of us aren’t professionals or experts at massage techniques, these guided programs help ensure the device is used properly and effectively on the right muscle groups. We’ve tried a few recovery and sleep routines so far. The device automatically adjusts the pressure, displays which muscle to target, and shows timing and rest intervals on the built-in screen. You can still fine-tune the intensity if an area feels sore or sensitive. The companion app connects seamlessly and adds clear visual guidance, showing exactly how to move and hold the device. You can also swap out stored routines through the app, which is a nice touch. Only time will tell if we’ll stay consistent with it, but so far, these routines have helped us get back into regular recovery. For its compact size, it packs more than enough power; we haven’t needed to go beyond the default settings. For ease of handling, portability, power, and especially the guided routines that tie everything together perfectly — high five.

The Theragun Sense is one of the many "massage gun" products available on the market. I've tried other brands and there is definitely a difference and why I think Theragun is better. The triangular design makes it so much easier to grip and hold at different angles. It also makes it easier to apply pressure without your hand/wrist getting sore. The Therabody app offers six "featured" routines for the most common areas of relief as well as routines for walking, running, upper and lower body, cycling, and sleep/relaxation. There are also routines designed for yoga, outdoor adventures, and sports. You can also choose routines for specific body parts. And the greatest thing about the routines is that they're each just a few minutes long. I used the Theragun Sense for a few weeks and was so impressed with the routines in the app that I didn't even realize there were four routines programmed directly into the Theragun itself. With five settings you can adjust the intensity/speed levels from 1750 to 2400 ppm (percussions per minute) The compact, handheld device connects to your wearables like Apple Watch, Garmin, and Google Fit so you can instantly update your work out routines. It lasts up to two hours on a single charge which is great considering most routines are only a few minutes. The Sense 2nd generation comes with a padded travel bag, USB charging cord, standard ball attachment, and dampener attachment. It's an FDA registered product and qualifies as an HSA/FSA item. Although there are several models of Theragun products, I found the Theragun Sense to be well-built, not too heavy, comfortable to hold, and it worked great for my needs. Definitely a "thumbs-up."

I use percussive therapy daily — before workouts, after workouts, and whenever I need to work out a spot or two. While I appreciate the power of the larger guns, they often aren’t the most convenient for daily carry and use. That’s where the Theragun Sense really fills the gap. It has just the right amount of power to work out sore muscles, prep me for workouts, and alleviate points of stress throughout the day with its built-in programs. Out of the box, it comes with a nice carrying case and two of the most commonly used attachments. Right away, you can feel how much lighter it is compared to the Pro versions of the Theraguns — it’s easily handled with one hand by anyone. The Sense feels sturdy and well-made. The motor, though much quieter, delivers a solid amount of power and doesn’t slow down when I apply adequate pressure. I’ve used a similar machine in the past that offered routines to alleviate mental fatigue and physical stress. It felt ahead of its time back then, but it eventually fell off — so it’s great to see larger companies investing in this trend now. That’s where the Sense truly sets itself apart. The onboard routines are great for a quick guided tension relief session in the middle of the day. Combine that with the programs available on your phone, and you’ve basically got your own personal masseuse anytime you need it. Since it’s easy to carry around, you can use it on your way to work or while relaxing at the park. When I use the Pro versions of the Theragun, I rarely go above the mid power levels. If that sounds like you, the Sense will meet all your needs. It’s strong enough to alleviate sore muscles, prep your body for workouts, and relieve tension throughout the day with its guided programs. Another great addition to my Theragun family.

Actually helps ease sore muscles and speed healing

As a runner, I’m often dealing with aches and pains and sore muscles. Because of that, I’ve been interested in massage therapy devices like the Theragun. My first foray was with a cheap battery-powered muscle roller which was good, but didn’t really reach deep into sore muscles. The Theragun Sense has been just what I’ve been looking for. Out of the box, the Theragun Sense comes in a black zippered travel bag, along with a charging cable, dampener and standard ball. Some models also come with a thumb attachment and micro-point attachment. The unit arrived with more than half a charge, enough to jump right in. It’s super easy to get started. The Sense features a central on/off/function button, along with up/down buttons for scrolling through options. There is a small color screen that shows battery level, percussion speed and elapsed time. Press the center button once to power up, again to start the percussion. Use the up/down buttons to increase or decrease the speed. While using the Sense, the screen also shows the level of pressure that you’re applying. The triangle-shaped handle allows you to adjust your grip to whatever seems best. This simple shape provides great flexibility for positioning your grip. I love how easy it is to get just the right hand position. The Sense does a great job of massaging sore muscles. As it turned out, I tweaked my hamstring the day mine arrived, so I got to put it to use right away. The dampener turned out to be better for very sore muscles. Over the course of a couple days, using stretching and the Theragun Sense, I was able to keep running without fully injuring my hamstring. I really believe the Sense helped me to heal faster. A few days after getting the Sense, I began to have annoying pains in my lower back that radiated down my leg. I put the Sense on the job, deeply massaging the affected area. Yes, it was painful, but after a massage session I felt so much better, and it carried over to the next day. I’m a believer! The Therabody app really helps to make the Theragun Sense shine. It features pre-set routines for recovering from all sorts of exercises, such as running, yoga, cycling, weightlifting, and more. Connecting the app to my other exercise apps makes for a comprehensive system. For example, after returning from a run, I’m prompted to start my running recovery routine. The app guides you through each body part until you’re done, including video guides to show you how it’s done. I found this to be very helpful. It’s nice to have an app that does more than just give real-time stats on the device itself—it’s genuinely useful! It also features several built-in routines on the device itself, such as sleep prep, back pain and more. With these, you get diagrams to guide placement of the massage ball along with timers to keep you moving. This is nice for when you don’t have the app handy. I’m very happy with the Theragun Sense. It’s not as intense as their flagship model, but that’s exactly why I got this one. It provides a nice massage while not being overpowering. The build quality is outstanding, and I expect it to provide many years of faithful service. Yes, there are cheaper alternatives out there, but with massagers, you get what you pay for. I’m glad I got this one, and you will be, too.
