I bought thus during a sale at an excellent price for 1TB of USB 3.0 storage in a slim form factor. The device performs well despite negative reviews found on Amazon and Toshiba's website. I've had it for about 1 month and it hasn't died. It stays plugged in to my desktop and always powers on and shows up in my drive list in the file explorer. Transfer speeds were more than adequate with the included USB 3.0 cable. It draws power from the cable which is a huge plus. My much larger 2TB backup drive needed a bulky AC adapter. So long power cable hassle! Can I vouch for long-term? No. But it appears to be solid. Drive does include 143MB of pre-installed software, driver files, and PDF manuals. Total available space shows as 931GB. Long story short, 4 stars for the past incident-free 4 weeks of ownership.

Great hard drive, but the back-up software included with it is poor. I backed up my computer when i got this and 4 weeks later my computer crashed causing me to eventually have to re-install the operating system. Sadly i lost almost half of it when i tried to re-install it. I have since gotten better software and i use this hard-drive for backing up my TV. It's quiet and fast thru the usb 3 connection. I'd probably buy it again but ONLY for a storage use. At 49 bucks it was a good deal. Easy setup up and running in less than 3 mnutes

I bought this drive over other brands because of the included pogoplug software. Unfortunately, that is the part of this product that I'm not really that pleased with. Admittedly, their support folks are good at communicating with you when you do run into trouble. However, I'm not able to use the software at work as I had hoped because our firewall blocks the required ports. It works fine at home and as an external hard drive, it is adequately fast, and offers a nice amount of storage.

This is my second Toshiba External Hard Drive. Only complaint is the cord is easy to separate from the unit. So I rubberband it so they stay together. And somehow the connection with this cord is tempermental and I can't take the chance that the drive won't work so I bought a new one. They've come way down in price.

What more needs to be said... Easy setup, lots of storage and small.

This drive is small, quiet, and fast. The drive has backup software included on the drive to help facilitate backups. Of course the option is always there to use your own preferred backup solution. I do wish that the drive included a longer USB cord. The included USB cord is roughly 12 inches long and it relegates the drive to sitting on top of my tower.

Works out of box. It is a mechanical hard drive throughput on 13 x 156meg files is 19.35 MB/sec throughput on 1 x 724meg file is 24.5 MB/Sec throughput on 1 x 3.98 GB file was @ 93.5 MB/Sec down to 46.6 overall, not the fastest drive, but it will do fine for storage drive, and can be used to watch movies or listen to music from.

Excellent little storage device. The entire unit is about the size of a deck of cards. It's smaller than my wallet. Maybe you can compare the size to a Galaxy smartphone. I got the 1 TB model although you only get about 950 GB of that 1 TB. About 50 GB goes to the operating system within the hard drive. Not a big deal though. You can still back-up about 3 or 4 entire laptop hard drives on it. I got it for music and movies and it does the trick. I believe it reads and responds to USB 2.0 or 3.0 so transferring was quick and easy. The OS auto runs and auto installs the drivers once you first plug it into the computer so installation was practically hands off. And your computer remembers it. I don't know if it was a promotion or if all packages are like this, but it also offered 10 GB of cloud storage at no additional charge. And via the cloud service, you're able to access files from the hard drive remotely. This is quite literally the best compact external portable hard drive I've seen for the money you pay.

Good storage to put your pictures and documents on.

Great storage, light wieght and small enough for my pocket, purse or camera bag. Transfers made easy between , phone, laptop and pc, and my camera. just wish the cord was longer only get a foot of cord which sometimes is a problem

Use for mobile archives... fast, as in USB 3.0 kinda fast ... big and small, big as in 1 TB and small as in pocket size... Red as in, I mean business and the price is right... what else you need? A BACKRUB? Call on soembody else...

this was a great value for the price. though a little slow due to the fact that it powers through the computer it is all that I need to backup and move my important files.

This product is one of 3 that i have and purchased from Best Buy, its compact so it fits easily in my pocket, I dont need instructions on how to use it . And it does work for me because of both easy to use and compact.

Pretty easy setup and usability. Worked well with my macbook pro also. Great deal of the day sale when purchasing and also using gift rewards coupons. Overall really pleased so far with this item.

Plenty of space, uesy to use. Good drive for backing up music pictures and documents. Good price and is real easy to use and understand. Lets face it we all need back up.

I may have been a little harsh in my "not so great" comment but the drive overall meets my needs (needed a portable/external as a backup to my daughters new laptop). However I had to register the software that came with the device and I don't remember an opt-out for emails and since have been getting a daily email from the software company. Probably my own fault as I should have just reformatted the whole thing and let windows run the back up, but wish it didnt have bloatware to begin with!

I've been using a 500 GB portable drive to back up my photo collection, but it is getting full. I purchased this drive to give me more room for my photos. The drive is quiet and fast, but has one problem its predecessor did not have... The drive appears to "go to sleep" and its USB connection drops, giving an annoying "beep". If I look for the drive in Windows, it "wakes up" and gives no other sign that it was mssing, so other than the annoying beep, it's not a problem.

Great hard drive. I use it for picture storage and it sure holds a lot just as it states. I have had no issues on the various computers that I have hooked it up to.

I paid 45 dollar and for that price and 1 TB of storage, a great bargain. Easy to use plus could storage through pogoplug, great.

This Toshiba canvio portable hard drive is just the one I was looking for. It was ease to set-up and It's very reliable.
