Finally a fun Transformers G1 game

I've been looking forward to this game since I saw the trailers from E3. It's been a few weeks and after finally having played through the campaign with one of the characters, I've walked away with mixed feelings so far. The look and feel of the game is probably the game's strongest feature. It stays true to the 80's character I would assume most people who buy this are familiar with... Same goes with the voices, the game could have easily gone south had they chose not to cast a lot of the original voice actors. I'm assuming they could not license the original cars as their vehicle forms only resembles Beetles, a Lancia and a Lamborghini Countach. The gameplay is where the game really shines as one would expect from Platinum Games. The combo system combined with the dodge/parry system is fluid and crisp. The story is mediocre and feels much like a 2 part episode we would catch after school. It comes nowhere near the movie (or the Five Faces of Darkness) and there are poor copy cat 80's level songs (that try to capture the feel of the movie). But, I am pleased with the number of Decepticons that make appearances in the game. Where the game lacks is in level design. The lack of scenery and different environments makes it feel really, really repetitive. I was wondering why the $49.99 price tag on release day and now I feel like I know. There also is a lot to be desired when it comes to looting. When you complete a level and review your newly found weapons, the design of the weapons were simple yet stayed true to the G1 fashion. What wasn't explained was what weapons to get rid of and what to keep. Before you know it, your inventory is maxed out and you're spending 5 minutes trying to make room. Overall, knowing what I know now, I would still purchase the game. I finished the game with Bumblebee first, thinking that he would be the least fun, but after attempting my second playthrough, my attention span is finding it more of a challenge. I'm hoping that there's a sequel to Devastation and keeping my fingers crossed that we get to play as G1 Decepticons.

Loved playing this game. A great change from their previous lineup and is easy to pick up even if you've never played a game like this. Only problem is the short story and no multiplayer, but is enjoyable when played with every difficulty.

The game is a great blend of nostalgia for transformers fans of old. However, that is just the surface, everything else feel modern and tight as an action game with plenty of depth with weapons and characters. The level design is well thought out with lots of secrets. With the higher difficulty modes enabled from the beginning you will be able to challenge yourself right from the start. Streaming also works great as you can get some great moments.

First of all, I have to say this won't be as fun going in blind. Definitely for fans. This is a Platinum game, so it's no cakewalk either. But if you know the source material and enjoy a slight challenge, then this game is for you. It's like playing the cartoon! My only gripe is how short this game is. It left you with a "um... that's it?" feeling. Overall fun for fans but less so for regular folks.

This game is really great for those of us that grew up in the 80's and 90's watching transformers the cartoon. Not the abominations that are Michael Bay films. The cell shading has you back in the show, the voices are pretty much nailed on correct e.g.Starscream. Platinum Games made Bayonetta and continue to make fun action oriented games. Awesome.

I really like this game! The art style is amazing and the action is never ending. I love Platinum Games fighting style. This is a true throwback for Transformers fans. I like that it is a focused game that doesn't take too long to beat. There are plenty of open world games out there... I'm glad there is something for a person with limited time to play.

The game is fine. Some of the voice actors are the originals (some are not because they are dead) and others are making attempts to copy the old voices. The mechanics are fine and graphics are pretty good. It's a fine game if you want to get a Transformers game to tide you over.

I loved this game. It really gave me a touch of nostalgia. All original transformers, with their original voices. It took me back to the 80's and I wanted to relive my childhood.

This is the game I've been waiting for since 1985. It looks fantastic and the use of some of the original voice actors is a nice touch. Not the best game in the world, but worth the buy to see Transformers in their original G1 glory.

Great game for Transformers fans. A lot of throwbacks, and the gameplay is good. Several different characters to play as and the difficulty isn't too bad. Game mechanics are pretty simple to understand.

This game should not be missed by fans of Transformers or action games in general. It felt like I was playing my favorite childhood cartoon show. It's cel-shaded graphics are a perfect fit for this game. The gameplay is fast and combo heavy with very smooth animations. The voice acting makes me happy to hear most of the original cast reprising their g1 roles. Also the music fits perfectly for the action. The only flaw is some repetive backgrounds.

If you're a fan of the 80's Transformers show then you'll like this game. The graphics are great and you'll feel like you're in the cartoon. Original voice actors add to the nostalgia. However, the game is short and can be beaten in 5-7 hours. Also, the weapon customization/upgrades weren't really helpful for me. I just stuck with one weapon per character and mashed buttons. I wouldn't pay full price for this; I would wait for a sale (I got mine on Black Friday). It's a fun game and the game that Transformers fans have been waiting for.

When I first saw videos of this game online, I was very excited to pre-order this game. I'm glad they finally went retro 80's for this release. TransFormers fans have been waiting for this kind of game. Optimus being Optimus and a villain like Devastator causing havoc. So I thank the developers for making this game and the original actors for loaning their services to produce this game. Yes, buy it !!

Transformers: Devastation knows its audience, and is a lot of fun for people who grew up with the original "G1" cartoon. The gameplay is fairly repetitive, but is a lot of fun...which is what really matters. If you're a fan of the original Transformers show from the 80s, this is definitely one to check out!

There are those who've complained the Game is too easy and short, but as a fan who doesn't play console games constantly, I enjoyed the ability to enjoy the fun without feeling constantly frustrated. The art and voice work is excellent, and the Game is just fun to play.

I will say this is an awesome take on the Gen 1 animation Transformers from the 1980's. Plays very well. Voices are good although 2 are different but sound good to me. I honestly think if you like the old school anime movie then this game is for you.

Probably the best Transformers game I've played in a long time. Amazing graphics that are a total throwback to the 80's cartoon, voice acting from much of the original cast and just simple, fun addictive gameplay. Just a lot of fun to play.
