Picture is wonderful, remote/tablet not so much

I won't review any of the picture quality details as those are well known. It's friggin awesome! There is plenty of data on this online. I'll focus on the biggest con of the product - the tablet remote. Look I appreciate the ambitiousness of the idea, but it's just not that great. It's a hassle to work with the apps through the tablet. It would be one thing if Vizio incorporated controls through the small remote (it comes with a remote and a tablet) for the apps like pause FF/rewind, etc. However you can't even do that. Every time you want to perform one of these functions you need to unlock the tablet and do them through it. I understand that this may not even possible given the integration with all of the different apps. Even things like customizing the display must be done through the tablet. I really don't need another device sitting around, either. Now this could be a nice bonus if you don't already have a tablet. I haven't tested out how it works on games and other media type of actions, I only use it to cast video to the TV. But it would also be fine for social media or browsing the web. I've had the TV for around 8 weeks and still can't quite get used to the tablet and I don't think I'm going to. The Netflix app for Android is terrible. Want to fast forward? You need to have pinpoint accuracy moving the little sphere forward on the status bar or else you're going to over shoot your destination time horribly. Don't try to power on the TV with the tablet, either. Because it works a small amount of time, so you can't totally abandon the small remote if you wanted to. I haven't had many issues casting from the tablet to the TV, that part has been pretty seamless. Whenever I cast something from NetFlix, YouTube, etc is switches right over. I'm sure the overall technology will improve over time, so some patience is necessary, but I'd just wish they'd added some more controls to the remote and some customizable apps build into the TV so the tablet isn't always required. I don't think the above are deal-breakers, but it's close and could be for some.

    Great TV

I've only had this TV for about a week, but it has lived up to expectations so far. The 50 inch model is great for viewing from about 8 feet away. The screen is definitely more reflective than the Samsung TV it is replacing, but only by a small margin. Plus the screen is capable of being very bright, so that's not really a problem. The viewing angle of the VA panel is good; there is no discernible color degradation from where I typically sit (10 to 30 degrees off angle). Also, while it is nice that this TV is 4K, it's really the combination of local dimming and HDR that make it worth buying. Contrast is amazing on this set. Controls for the TV are atypical, but if you have used a Chrome- / Google-cast before it will be an easy transition. Plus, media hubs, right? Also, if anyone is wondering, the feet of the TV are set back from the edge of the bezel by about 2 inches on either side. The only negative I want to report has to do with my ordering experience and does not pertain to the TV. The first two TVs arrived with their screens smashed (one was delivered, the other I picked up in store), but the third one was in good shape. I realize my experience is likely not the norm, but it was definitely a hassle.

    Great TV for the price

After a lot of research I decided on this TV, because reviews said it was the best TV in the price range. So far I am pleased, picture quality is great. The downsides to the TV are basically as described, there is glare in bright light (not much of a surprise really) and I haven't tested out the upscaling that much but if you primarily watch online services like netflix that won't matter. Also, the remote they include is actually a fully functional android tablet, kind of cool. I haven't used the smartcast feature it has because I use a Roku. So, if your counting on that piece you may want to read other reviews because many reviews I found complained that it is a bit buggy.

Ignore the elitist instinct to overlook this product simply because it is a "Vizio." The picture quality is stunning, particularly Netflix 4K offerings. The remote takes some getting used to but you will figure it out in short order. I purchased a Samsung initially (talked into it by the Samsung (I mean Best Buy) employee and I returned it and purchased this instead...I do not regret it lol.

    AWESOME!!!!!!!

I own 2 VIZIO M series TV's and am completely satisfied with them so I was excited to learn about the P series. After doing all the research I could based on the information that was out, It really didn't take much for me to pull the trigger on this. After the setup, I set it side by side to the Samsung 7 series that I had recently purchased for my family room. (Side note the only reason I got the Samsung is because BJ's had it on sale for only $100 more than what I paid for the Vizio 4K M Series. When I compared them side by side the 7 Series was superior. So I returned that VIZIO. I was still happy with VIZIO picture though.) I streamed the same movie on Netflix on both of them at the same time. The VIZIO P series had a better picture and handled motion flawlessly. That's all I needed. I took it upstairs and hung it on the wall in my man cave. Without getting into the Tech Stuff. The Picture is simply amazing. I have no regrets or second thought about my purchase. As far as the tablet remote, I think it's cool but I could do without it. At the end of the day I can't see myself using the tablet outside of the functionally of the TV but again its cool for a techy like myself. I jumped back into the market for TVs after purchasing a new house and my research has given me this insight about TV's. Beyond the basic 1080, 4K stuff, before going crazy like I did, unless you get a kick out having the most popular brand, their are alot of great options out there. A lot of people, even the associates at Best Buy talk down about VIZIO but they are looking for flaws that the average consumer won't notice unless it's pointed out. The M series made me a satisfied customer but the P series has probably made me a loyal VIZIO customer for life as long as they continue to provide the best best bang for MY buck!

Not many good 1080p TVs are produced anymore, this Vizio fit the bill for a great picture on a budget. I would highly recommend this TV for anyone in a smaller space or on a budget. Great contrast with full array LED backlight and vivid colors in an attractive slim bezel package. Great into to UHD and with HDR support as well. Should be a great set looking towards the UHD future.

This set is leaps and bounds ahead of the rest of the new 2016 sets, it has all the features and capabilities that I would have included if I was designing my ultimate Television. Love how everything is controllable and selectable with the included wireless charging enabled tablet that was included. The Google Cast Chromecast features work great and everything is super quick and easy to operate. I have a Tivo connected that handles the cable channels or OTA channels and a Bluray player and everything else is handled with the Google Cast capable apps. The Vizio app lets you get as high tech as you could ever dream of with picture settings and the picture in 4K and HDR is as good or better than any other set I have seen. I thought I would never find a set that I would like better with a nice a picture as the Pioneer Plasma this replaced but this set changed my mind in one day. Good not be more pleased with the choice and a set that is pretty much future proof at a absolutely great low price is the frosting on the cake.

Our old tv only lasted 3 years, when it unexpectedly quit on us in the middle of a Netflix movie. At first we looked up repair costs but quickly realized it would be more than buying a new plain led tv. We had reward certificates and could get approved for an extended payment with no interest free through the best buy credit card so I tools my husband to pick something better than just a plain led tv. He researched extensively before settling on this. We've had it in our baby room, as first time parents we're slurring in the nursery to start. It works perfect. We sometimes get network connection lost on the tablet link, but that's because we have bouncing network service at our house. That's not the tablet's fault, and it picks up connection right away again without us having to pair or sync again, so that's ok. I screen cast to it from my Samsung galaxy phone for some video apps that aren't compatible with the tablet. I've never had an issue with that connection. Crisp clear pictures, excellent size and viewing angle. Put curtains on your windows and you won't have a problem with the mid day sun affecting your screen.

I purchased this television the week prior to Memorial Day 2016, the price dropped an extra $100 so i was able to price match! The television is incredible, deep blacks! I was able to watch Deadpool and Mad max in 4k I was blown away! The tablet remote is an amazing feature that will take some getting used too, theres also a little generic remote that comes with it that is a big help. I have a Plama as my main viewing Tv god forbid it goes, but if it does I will be buying the 65" P series. Well worth the purchase!

    BEST 4K TV OF 2016

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The Good: Great 4K TV for the price! Picture is out of this world and sound is decent enough without a soundbar. 4K and 1080p content is, of course, gorgeous! Lower quality upscaling isn't the greatest but it's certainly not the worst. (I'd say it's about even with the 2015 M Series.) Lack of tuner which is a plus for me because I use my TV solely for gaming and streaming services so I don't care about that. (If you watch OTA channels, you'll have to buy a tuner.) On the subject of gaming, it's a perfect gaming TV as well - input lag is the lowest I've seen. Picture out of the box is lovely and calibrating the settings is easy enough with the tablet. The Bad: Okay, the obvious - as other reviewers have mentioned, setup is a DISASTER. I would've hoped they'd have a more seamless process. The pairing between the tablet and the TV kept restarting mid-setup so you would have to start all over again. It got frozen in the "add your google account" part so my TV was stuck asking for a google account for 2 hours before I finally got it to restart again. Sometimes the tablet has issues casting and it will occassionally have a delay when you try to pause the content, but I'm hoping these will be fixed in an update. The other downside is that this one is 60hz as opposed to 120hz like the rest which is a bit of a bummer. Unless you're PC gaming it really won't matter too much, though. A few ChromeCast-supported apps aren't supported on the tablet as well, which again, will hopefully be fixed in an update. (DramaFever supports ChromeCast but the tablet isn't a supported version to download the app) And as mentioned, upscaling lower quality content (420p, 720p) definitely isn't the best on the market, but it's passable. All in all, though, this is easily the best 4K TV in 2016 for your money!!! :)

Great tv that I got a week and half ago. It gets great picture and upscales great. Its easy to setup with only minor headaches that are easy to overcome. It takes some getting used to the tablet remote, but the basic controls can be controlled the "dummy" control that comes with it. The overall picture is great, but there is some static that sometimes appears in the gray areas and avoid using this tv in sun light areas because the glare can be a issue if you don't cover the windows or place place it where the sun light can't reach it. Besides this small problems you should enjoy this tv especially for the price.

I am a long time Samsung TV/Display fan and have owned several Samsung HDTVs over the years. I recently wanted a 4K TV for some reason and bought the Samsung KS8000 which was a great TV but I couldn't justify it over the new Vizio P series based on reviews and my own testing, so I returned the Samsung and although I lost 5", I saved $748 on the difference. I bought this TV for my basement as mainly an Xbox One gaming TV and usually sit 3-4 feet away. This TV is CRISP, SHARP and VIBRANT! I love it. I got it on sale for $799.99 over the Memorial Day weekend and have no regrets.

Spent several hours trying to make it work. Had to call customer support and have TV registration reset by Vizio tech guy. Only after that step SmartCast started to work. Overall I find this new 'no tuner, display only' concept awesome - I can use any device to watch any content, no need for a remote in fact. The picture quality is superb, comparable to 2x more expensive models from other makers. Sound is okay but I have soundbar so don't really care.

First I purchased and returned a Sony, then a LG super uhd. Both were terrible. Waited for this Vizio P50 to come out. Glad I did. This panel is amazing. Great color and no motion blur. Super bright and detailed picture. Couldn't be happier. I highly recommend this panel to anyone wanting a 2016 model.

First let me just say I had the p55 and wasn't that impressed with it even with some calibrations. And on top of it it was amazingly buggy. So returned it and grabbed the p50 and BOOM the picture is other worldly at times. Set up was a breeze unlike the p55, still playing around with the remote and tweaking the pic settings. If you purchase this set you won't be disappointed.

This TV lasted me 7 years. After tuning the color from an online forum, I was able to get amazing colors, blacks, and features. Vizio continued to update this TV, adding airplay 2, newer software, and more. I would gladly buy another Vizio TV. If you can find a P50 from 2016 for a good price, buy it.

Upgraded my Panasonic TC-P50U1 to this TV. I have nothing but absolutely wonderful things to say about it. I love that the TV works on Google Cast and not installed apps. This makes things move along quite a bit quicker when trying to watch a show on Netflix. The "tablet" it comes with is a bit hokey at 6"...an 8" tablet would have been a better inclusion. That said, you can probably use this with most any Android device using Google Cast. Not sure about iOS. It works with my Nexus 6.

I bought this after reviews of how good the picture is. And it is good. I have a LG OLED EF6500 in my living room and this was to be a wall mount for the bedroom. The picture is very good and the whole experience is ruined by the clunky pad instead of a normal remote. The small on off volume remote doesn't cut it. I cant even find a sleep timer on it. Trying to get to nextflix is a hassle and overall the TV would be great if it just had a standard type remote. Visio got to cute with this setup and it is going to make people do what Im doing. Take it back.

    Great Picture Terrible Casting

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have owned my tv about 9 months and from inception, there have been 2 overriding themes; The TV has an amazing picture, and major syncing issues with the tablet. I have had to call multiple times to trouble shoot why the tablet and TV have lost their pairing (minimum of 12 calls). Around the 12th call Vizio sent a tech out and he replaced the mother-bored in the TV. Approximately 2 weeks later, the pairing issue returned, and then none of the other devices on the network: Laptops, IPads, phones, etc. would find the TV on the network. Consequently, you couldn't to cast to it. At this point, I called and pitch a fit so Vizio sent a new television (they wanted to send a refurbished one, but I wasn't having it). However, when the new TV arrived it did not have a new tablet with it. Since, I had trouble with the tablet as well, It stopped charging on the provided dock (I was told this was a one time update error, however the day the new tv arrived it stopped charging completely). I am currently waiting on the arrival of the new tablet, so I don't have an update on how well the pairing holds as of now. I will update after the new tablet arrives and i can test them out. Additionally, when I originally purchased the TV the fact that it wasn't a TV in the traditional sense, and was actually just a monitor, I thought nothing of it. I have had cable for years, so not having a tuner was an after thought, as the cable box made a tuner in the irrelevant. However, as I have reached my wits end with Comcast and refuse to pay a cable bill that is now exceeding $200, not having a tuner is a headache. Apparently low end tuners are just that "low end", so I will end spending ~$450 on Tivo tuner. At the end of the day, I absolutely love the picture on the TV, but the casting experience has made me regret the purchase. The concept of TV and tablet is really great, but the functionality has been the worst. To do it again, I would have just bought the traditional Smart TV with the apps on it. And, if you think you might want to become a cord cutter like myself having a tuner in the TV could be something to consider as well.
