Great 4K HDR, really bad DSE

If you are sensitive to “Dirty Screen Effect” than you might want to look for another TV. It may not be the same for all of these TVs but the one I bought had terrible DSE and was very noticeable, especially screen panning while playing PS5 games. The 4K HDR was great but the DSE was too distracting to enjoy. Returned the TV and paid a little extra and went with the Samsung Q70T. Great decision.

Love this TV. It is the perfect size for the wall it's mounted on. The only thing I wish I'd be able to do is to somehow transfer all of my streaming accounts to this tv from my other Vizio.

Faced so many issues. Fire stick doesnt work with this tv as hdmi ports are not standard and not compatible. Smartcast throws errors intermittently. I get green lines when i cast from phone. Customer service is rude and after several followups i have decided to trash it for samsung or sony. All the customer service does is update firmware.

    Complete waste of money

It was good… While it lasted I bought this TV in January I’ve never done anything to it but watch it. it is now August and my TV completely stopped working, the sensor on the TV won’t read any remote I’ve replaced the batteries in the remote several times I’ve had a TV repair person come take a look at it from Vizio and he is saying that there’s a stripped screw in the back of the TV so it cannot be repaired therefore I wasted my money I suggest you buy your TV from somewhere else. Thanks for nothing Best Buy I will never buy from you again.

It's a TV... nice picture and good smart functions

    Posted .

Well... it's a TV. At 55", it's big. Bigger than I was ready for, coming from a 42-inch model from the mid 2010s. From what I've read it's a little thicker and a little heavier than other options, but I'm not bothered by that. It comes with legs that install easily and keep it pretty steady, but I'm not particularly interested in that, because I bought a table-mounted stand that lifts the screen up off the surface of the shelving unit I use as a TV stand, which allowed me to place my turntable and receiver on the tabletop under the screen (side note: this TV uses a 300 x 200 VESA pattern for its mounting screws, so if you're thinking of mounting this TV on a pole, make sure your choice as that option). The picture is quite nice, for the most part. I had to play around with settings for a good while before I found the right one. I ended up using a custom setting and strangely had to reduce the amount of red in the picture because it was glaringly bright compared to other colors. Once calibrated, 4K and 4K HDR video looks very nice, indeed, and I had no problems with motion smoothing making movies look like cheap TV shows. The brightness is very good, even in my living room, which gets lots of natural light during the day. One nice feature from a display standpoint is the TV automatically detects the type of source that's coming through, even when that source is passed through. I use an Onkyo TX-8270 stereo HDMI receiver, and hook my Blu-ray player, HD cable box, Roku, and Nintendo Switch through it. When switching between inputs, the TV auto-detects game sources and HDR sources and turns on the appropriate profile, which is a very nice. One function that's been working fairly well is the auto switching of sources. Pressing the "home" button on my Roku remote changes the input to Roku from whatever it had been. Similarly, waking up the Switch with a wireless controller changes the input to Switch. The Roku remote also allows me to control volume and power of the TV, and when the TV is connected to HDMI ARC input of the Onkyo receiver, it can be set to turn off the TV speakers and use only the receiver volume. It works fairly well, and also allows the TV to send audio from its own Smart applications. Speaking of the smart functions of the TV, I have to say, I'm impressed. The last Vizio TV I used with smart features was built in 2015, and I was not impressed back then with the functionality. On the other hand, this TV's smart functions are pretty snappy, and the menus are laid out pretty well. I was able to set up Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Hulu accounts to use with he streaming functions of this TV, and they all worked well, more or less. I'm particularly impressed with Vizio's "WatchFree" service, which cobbles together some of the better online TV content, with channels that include old movies and TV shows (watching classic episodes of Unsolved Mysteries has been a treat), as well as content from creators like "People are Awesome." It's nice to just have something to turn on, and very much like free cable TV if you have an internet connection. The one strange thing about the TV's smart functions is the remote. It doesn't come with a standard "play/pause" button, nor FF/RW buttons, meaning the user is left with the "OK" button and the circular 4-position navigation button (doing double-duty) to control the streaming functions. The remote is also without voice command functionality, meaning any navigation of the smart menus must be done manually. There are, helpfully, an array of 6 buttons at the top with shortcuts for Vudu, Netflix, Prime Video, Kumo, Hulu, and RedBox. The final "smart" feature of the TV is its ability to be used with Amazon Alexa and Google Home. As a Google Home user, I love being able to cast directly to the TV from my phone. My mom has been recording herself reading children's books and uploading the videos to YouTube, and I love how easy it is to click on a YouTube link from a text message she sends and cast it to the TV to show the kids, or to say "hey, Google, play Paw Patrol on my TV," for example. I should add that, as a Roku Premiere owner, I will mostly not be using the smart channels through the TV, opting instead to stick with the Roku experience. I subscribe to CBS All-Access and HBO through my Roku account, and I also prefer the Roku remote and menus, so I'll keep using it for now. It's nice to know that some day I can choose Vizio's smart functions if I need to, and I can always cast video from my phone to the TV. The bottom line: like I said at the start, it's a TV. It's big, the screen is bright enough and looks great in HD or 4K resolutions, the smart features and remote are adequate, and it works pretty well hooked up to an HDMI receiver with a bunch of sources attached. I'm pleased, but if I were to recommend this to a friend, I would have to make sure they're ready for this specific TV based on its attributes. I wouldn't recommend it across the board unless it fits their room and their needs.

Bottom row on the panel shows weird colors

    Posted .

Great panel overall, but major bugs Got it last week, started noticing a weird flickering on the bottom row. It would come and go as it pleased. Some high res (HDR10) videos would show horizontal black lines. Thought there was a problem with this TV. Got a replacement today from bestbuy - exact same thing! Tried resetting picture settings, and the tv itself - didn't help. Saw another review on the 50" inch version suffering from the same problem. Should've waited for more reviews. Hope Vizio is doing something to fix the issue.

    Scratched Screen

    |
    Posted .

I got two of this TV and both had massive, deep scratches across the display, which must’ve happened in the factory, before being packaged. I never even turned the TVs on and got to set them up, because the screens were compromised. I don’t care if this TV is “affordable,” it’s not a bargain if I have to deal with massive gashes across the display. I went with the Sony X-900H, which was way more expensive, but much higher quality.

    Misleading advertising by Best Buy

It’s a good product but I was looking for motion rate of 240. Unfortunately this product’s motion rate is only 120. Way Best Buy put the motion rate as 360 is not true. I think it’s for “gaming device”, I’m not a expert. Needless to say, I am very disappointed at Best Buy, they should never even put that as motion rate since it will give bad advertising. Not to mention bad rating for the store also. They should not mislead a consumer like me!!

The native refresh rate does NOT fully describe the TV’s motion clarity technology. The “open cell” or “native” refresh rate describes only the glass panel’s ability to refresh the image on the screen, without taking into account the benefit of the scanning backlight. The “native” refresh rate for this TV is 60. VIZIO’s TVs have a Dynamic Motion Rate, which better describes the TV’s ability to achieve motion clarity through the use of its glass panel and scanning backlight. The Dynamic Motion Rate for this TV is 120. VIZIO

    Disappointing

    Posted .

I got this TV in May and I was in love with it until one night in June when it just "lost connection" and froze mid-streaming. I tried turning it off and on again, nada. I unplugged and plugged it back in, nada. I tried to reset it to factory settings and the screen is stuck on this screen (see photo) every time I try again. I have tried everything, searched for answers online, there is no help apparently.

Amazing Value for Next Gen Consoles

The best value by far for a 4K UHD set that has 2.1 HDMI, the only thing it lacks is 120hz support as the panel is limited to 60hz but it literally has everything else including: HDR10, Dolby Vision, AMD Freesync/Variable Refresh Rate and Auto Low Latency. The QLED panel isn’t as nice as an LG OLED but it also costs $800 less and put the two side by side and you’d be hard pressed to spend the extra cash. Bottom line if you’ve got a PS5 or Series X/S than this tv will blow you you away for features and price.

    Good TV

So my first Vizio TV purchase, I was pleasantly surprised. TV seems good quality so far and picture quality is good for the price. Still have a 5 star review because I currently have a different brand tv that consistently restarts as if I unplugged the TV. So when I got this VIZIO I love how quickly it starts up even by pressing one of the app buttons on the remote it directly powers on the tv to the app I choose which is very convenient.

I have a love hate relationship with this TV. Not so much hate, more annoyed. First ill say that i am no tv picture setting genius and i dont know everything about setting up a tv to get it to work best. I watched a lot of reviews of this tv so i knew what i was buying. I am a sensitive viewer to screen effects and motion blur. I like a sharp clear image. This tv delivers that for a still pictures. Motion is blurry almost to the point that i wanted to return or exchange tv because i couldnt be the only one seeing this. But i held off giving the tv more time to dial in settings. Well my 15 day return period expired and i was still messing with settings and noticing more glitches and screen freezes. Ive settled with the tv, i paid for a mid range performer i guess thats what i got. I was just expecting a little bit more precision. The gaming on this tv is phenomonal i have to say. That is really its shining moment. If this was just a gaming tv it would be 5 stars. Ill have to pay $800-$1000 for my next tv.

Maybe it's because I haven't gotten a new TV in years, but I am genuinely blown away with both the image quality and smart capabilities of this TV - especially at its price point. The design of this TV is pretty basic, and that's not a bad thing. It is all black and I love the two stands on both ends, so I can position my soundbar centered underneath. It's not the thinnest TV on the market, but you'll never really notice it. I kind of wish it had a little more flare to it, like a stainless steel bezel or something, but for the price, you can't ask for too much. Besides, this TV makes up in the functionality department to make up for lack of aesthetic design. In regards to image quality, you will certainly be pleased. It is very bright (sometimes even too bright for me) and at the same time, it is able to achieve pretty good blacks (for an LED). One of the reasons the dark colors can be achieved in contrast to the bright ones is this TV features local dimming zones (a HUGE PLUS). Colors are vibrant and the 4K HDR technology means you'll be able to see a lot more detail. The refresh rate of this TV 120 Hz, double of a similarly priced Samsung. So if you love fast-action videos or are into gaming (Team Xbox here), then this TV will be prefect. I have both a 4K Apple TV and Xbox One X, so these two devices are generally my go-to for consuming content. With that said, it is pretty cool that the M-Series Quantum is a "smart TV" with additional tricks up its sleeve. It has several apps pre-installed from the big players like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video. Navigating these native apps aren't my favorite because of the included remote (which is probably because the TV is still relatively new to me and I'm used to using the Xbox controller or Apple TV remote). Nonetheless, there are many video apps to consume content. So if you don't have a third-party device, you have nothing to worry about. I previously mentioned that the TV has tricks up its sleeve. Those tricks are that it has Apple AirPlay 2 and Chromecast built-in. That means if you have an Apple device (iPhone or iPad) you can mirror your screen or play content directly onto the M-Series without any additional hardware. Super cool! I assume Chromecast works the same for Android devices (which I don't have). The other cool feature of the TV is that it works with Alexa, Hey Google, and Apple HomeKit. I've connected the TV to my Amazon Echo devices, and I can just tell Alexa to turn on my Living Room TV, and Boom! It turns on. You can also give other basic commands like muting and stuff. Pretty fun. It did take a hot minute to work after I went through the Alexa setup process on the TV, but once it did its thing and Alexa thought about it, it finally started working flawlessly. Okay, so what are my gripes? Like all TVs these days, you will absolutely need a soundbar of some sort. Yes, there are internal speakers, but they are crap (again, like literally ALL flat-panel TVs these days). So I guess it's not really a gripe rather than reality, but whatever. I don't really like the user interface of the TV either. It feels kind of cumbersome to me. Oh, and I made the mistake of connecting the Vizio remote to my Apple TV and while it worked with the Apple TV, it also simultaneously made UI inputs for the main screen of the TV (if that makes sense). It's like it was doing two things at once. I may have missed something, but I had to delete that remote setting from the Apple TV. Instead, I just made sure the Apple TV was able to work with the Vizio to turn up the volume, etc. All things considered, the Vizio 55" M-Series is a great television. For the price, you're getting a large screen, great image quality (especially with the local dimming feature), and awesome "smart" functionality.

The tv speakers sound horrible and I can’t ever get airplay to actually work. It’s be nice if I could hook Bluetooth headphones directly to tv as well. I have my Xbox series x hooked to it though, and use a gaming headset, so sound hasn’t been an issue for me. Over all the tv is fine and I don’t regret buying it, I just wish I would’ve spent a little more and gotten a Samsung. It’ll work just fine for now though.
