I had several of the WB "mybook" and they worked great. Purchased this one because of a Holiday Sale @ $175.00 and it included a free 32GB usb flash drive.. BONUS.!.
The Easystore has an LED on it where the MYbook does not. The Hard drive in this Easystore was a White Label WD drive with 256MB Cache.. NICE.!! I removed the daughter/USB board and it worked like a normal SATA drive in my Tower PC.

Great drive to add to a NAS device. Ripped the HDD out and its now in my NAS box. Make sure to test the drive for a few days before opening the encloser to avoid warranty issues if the HDD is DOA.

I Think it's good practice because I have more storage space at a reasonable price, so I can not worry about the disk space, and is a registered trademark of a good quality, indeed, excellent.

So like many who are looking at these WD EasyStore Externals, you are looking at these drives to shuck them and put them into a NAS or storage server. I've been eyeballing these drives for awhile at 8TB but wanted a little more capacity, and here they are.
So the results? Outstanding so far! They are no longer WD "RED" under the NAS drive brand, but they are identical white label drives which differ only with their warranty. They are 10TB Helium EMAZ drives which are identical to the 5400RPM Red drives with 256MB of cache.
Even if you don't shuck these drives and keep them in their USB 3.0 housing, they are an outstanding value and performance is solid with 204/207MB/s Seq. Read/Write.
Personally, I found a great video on youtube to non-destructively shuck these drives and put them in my 4-bay WD NAS, then took the 4x2TB drives in there and put those drives in the Easystore housing for very solid USB 3.0 Housings that I will give away to relatives this holiday season. Win-win for everyone.
This SKU is specific to BestBuy and also oomes with a 32GB USB drive that is PERFECT for stocking stuffer, or putting Windows Bootable images on. These drives are low stock but check back often as I am sure they will come back in and out of stock through the holiday season.

A lot of space for all your video/backup needs

This hard drive has a lot of space for the price which is exactly what we want when backing up all our data/videos/etc. I bought this to use it as a backup of all my other 2/3/4TB drives so I can have all the data in one place and keep this drive at my office so my data is backed up and also not in the same place as my other smaller drives (in the case of theft or fire at my house the data for this drive is at my work). The drive has not gotten very hot while testing the drive out moving over multiple TBs of data to it. The drive writes and good speeds but even so moving over a lot of data can take days bc the drive has so much available space on it. This drive is highly rated to be a Western Digital Red drive inside that just has a white label on it so you get the same drive as the highly rated red 10TB drive for a lower price since its in an external enclosure. There are lots of videos you can find out on how to "shuck" the drive and use it as an internal drive but then I believe you can lose your warranty (or you have to put it back into the external enclosure before doing a warranty return). I wish they would warranty these drives for a little longer (a few years ago many drives came with 3 years or I even had a 1.5TB that had a 5 year warranty, but at least this one has a 2 year warranty vs just the now usual 1 year warranty. but other than that so far this drive has been great and the bonus 32GB flash drive is a nice little extra.

Glad to see that WD is streamlining their 'book' drives to go bigger yet get sleeker as the new 10TB external hard drives are hitting shelves. As a very avid consumer of WD drives (I also use Seagate for gaming as well), I prefer WD for the majority of my file storage and libraries. So when I saw the exceptional price of the EasyStore (Best Buy exclusive model MyBook also available) I decided to take the plunge & get one for my latest video file vaulting. Now although there are no security features with EasyStore (you can remedy that pretty quick) the fact that it's current price compared to the 10TB MYBook (which is about $90 more) & if you're looking at the 8TB (which is only $10 more for less space) it was a no-brainer to go 10 Easy, if you can. Added feature is that it comes with a 32GB thumb drive as well so Best Buy throws you a lil thank you as well. With this being on sale right now it's you 'Best' bang for your buck.

Easy setup, just plug it in and it's ready to use. I have only had it for 2 weeks but so far, no problems. Does what its supposed to do, has a good transfer speed and very inexpensive for its size. I'm using it to archive photos and video that take up large amounts of space. Its cheaper and faster than using the cloud and no monthly/yearly fees.

I bought this drive to hold larger files I work with. It does a fantastic job and the speed is good too. It does put itself into a power saving mode after going unused for a while and takes 5-10 seconds to wake up but has worked flawlessly with my Windows 10 system for several months now.
The 32GB Easystore flash drive looks nice and has reasonable speed but feel cheap and runs hot. I definitely would use one except for the fact that it was free. This does not take anything away from the 10TB drive, I just wouldn't trust this USB flash drive for anything other than transfering files.

I was very pleased with the price of this unit, so tried to order it on line from Best Buy. After two calls to the Help Desk, I was asked to simple go to my local store and pick it up.
So, I did. When I got home, I connected it and turned it on and it worked flawlessly. It loaded the appropriate software and told me I was ready to go. Before attempting to do a back up, I decided to register the drive with Western Digital. This is where the fifth star was lost. The web page said that the serial number I provided was either an OEM device or the warranty was invalid. It was 3 hours old! Spent another bit of time with the WD Help Desk appealing for them to either get me a new unit or somehow warranty the one I had. After another contact with the Help Desk a day later, I found that their web site now recognized my serial number and it allowed me to register it.
I've used the drive for a couple months now and it works great.

This drive should give you enough storage to last a long time, at a price that's very affordable. The USB 3.0 interface means you won't be waiting very long for data to transfer from the drive to your system, and the overall size of the drive is small enough that you can fit it pretty much anywhere.

Actual size is 9.09 TB in case anyone is wondering. It's like this because all hard drive manufactures go by 1,000 bytes for a kb, but windows reads 1,024 bytes as a kb.
Took hours to scan & test with Western Digital Data LifeGuard Diagnostics, but it passed with flying colors. Always scan your hard drives to make sure they aren't damaged or have bad sectors.
After it all passed, was able to easily shuck (remove) the hard drive out of the casing & was able to put it in my computer as an internal hard drive. Remember to fully test it before shucking as this voids warranty. Depending on your PSU, you also might need to bypass a pin to get your computer to recognize it if you're using it as an internal hard drive.
These are White labeled Red drives. Great for long term storage or used in NAS systems for backups. Been using this hard drive as a Plex server for 7 months now with no problems.

This was a daily doorbuster that I saw advertised by Best Buy on its web site, and I grabbed it while it was still available at the bargain price, highly discounted, of $179.99. The 10TB of storage is fantastic - it's always easy to think you have storage and then you end up running out of space, so 10TB gives you plenty of head room . . . although if you have a lot of files you can still run out of room on it. I bought two of them, so I can make backups of my home computer, keeping one backup on site at my home, and keeping the 2nd backup at my office, so if there is a fire or a theft at one place, I have the other backup at the other place to rely upon.

So far, it has been reliable, reasonably fast, relatively affordable and quite capacious. We'll see if the reliability maintains. What kills me is that I'd like to buy a bare hard drive of this size to stick inside a computer and you can't find one for close to this price. How can an external hard drive with a case, a power supply, a USB 3.0 cable and SATA-to-USB circuitry cost so much less than a bare hard drive?

This is an excellent option for a anybody who needs a lot of storage. Drives run quiet and relatively cold. I have used two in my Synology NAS, and yes they are the white label WD red drives on the cheap, and did not require any power pin "hack". One suggestion - BEFORE you decided to break into the case, run a good test program to make sure that there are no problems with the drive. It takes about 24 hours, but it is worth the time. I had ONE drive which I had to return, but it was a physical assembly issue (both USB and power sockets were misaligned, and wouldn't accept cable plugs). The return process …. required A LOT of patience on my part, but it was a very busy Black Friday weekend, so the slow process hopefully did not represent the BestBuy standard experience.

I absolutely love this. I have saved my entire digital library to this thing already and haven't even made a dent in the storage capacity. I can plug this hard drive into any of my TV's and get full access to all of my files.
It's kind of like my own portable Netflix without needing to be connected to the internet (no streaming issues "buffering")
The overwhelming majority of people will be able to fit every movie, song and picture that they own on this thing and never need to seek additional storage ever again.
The size and weight of this thing is about that of your average hard back book. It is very portable. I could see this being very useful when travelling. Plug it into the TV in your hotel room and enjoy. I also envision myself taking this with me when going to visit family/friends and stay a day or a weekend. Obviously you don't need to be connected to the internet to access any of your media either, which has already come in handy during an internet outage in my neighborhood this week.
The only remotely negative thing I can say about this hard drive is that the actual storage space is only 9.1 TB.

This drive holds more data than it has any right to. It's quite fast on large sequential reads/writes especially for a nominally low-RPM drive. The enclosure is non-encrypting which means you can remove the drive from the enclosure (a.k.a. shucking) and use it as an internal storage drive without having to reformat and start from scratch. Shucking these cases is a horrible task and might void your warranty, but it's totally worth it. The included flash drive is a neat little bonus, but it's just a typical SanDisk drive with WD branding (WD owns SanDisk.) Highly recommend this drive if you need to store or back up a very large amount of data. If you format it as NTFS, remember to set the cluster size to 64K instead of 4096 bytes for best performance!

Easy drive to set up and use. SO much space to back up and store media files on too. Love how it works with everything and isn't slowed down even with saving and playing high-end media files for playback.
