I gave Geek Squad my computer, purchased from Best Buy four years ago, to fix the boot sector of my hard drive. They wanted to do a full backup, so I gave them the WD 500GB disk drive I've been using for backup. They said they couldn't use it, even though it had more than enough capacity. So I purchased the new 5TB drive. After taking my money, they reported that my computer disk had crashed. I was stuck for the WD 5TB drive, which did me zero good as far as recovering my disk, and which I did not need. Nothing bad about WD or my disk. BUT I WILL NOT DEAL WITH GEEK SQUAD AGAIN. Yesterday we got a message from them that the anti-malware software they sold me was no longer renewable through them, and I would have to buy something else. NOT FROM BEST BUY, I WILL NOT.

I guess it's my fault, but this device doesn't do the automatic backup when documents change. It only backs up full directories. I think you can buy additional software to do the incremental backups by versions. I don't remember having to pay extra for that the last drive I got. So it did the job of making a copy, but now it's out of date. I had asked the BB sales associate and he said it would do it. There isn't anything special about this drive. I wouldn't specifically recommend it. It's just an external hard drive. Those are a dime a dozen. I kept it because it was cheaper (on sale) than the other options.

Good drive, disappointed by WD software

The drive works fine, lots of capacity and writes to the drive over USB 3.0 are nice and fast. Disappointed by the WD easystore software/bloatware. The installation took much longer than it should. When I kicked off a backup, it dribbled out the writes at such a slow rate, it would have taken days to finish a backup of about 0.5 TB of data. So, I canceled the backup, uninstalled the WD software, and am now in search of 3rd party backup software.

did not work as expected had to reformat the drive using windows format software and then partition the drive into 2 separate 2 tb hdd to get windows to recognize the drive. At this time it works as expected after performing additional steps to make it function as it should have from the beginning but would recommend the drive size to anyone just cannot give the unit a 10 star rating.

I purchased this to replace a 4TB external Seagate drive that died on me after 4 years of use. Both that drive and this new WD drive are USB 3, but I think the Seagate was a bit faster on the draw than this one. A hard drive is a hard drive, I suppose. So far it's fine. The real test will be how long it lasts (stay tuned).

It is most likely an excellent item, but the directions for attaching to my computer were not clear. All I want to do is use the device as a backup for my iMac; Instead, all that turned up on the screen were more ways to spend money. I am still hoping to find a way to use it.

Not what I expected from Dell

Slower overall speed than I expected considering its brand new with very little in storage. CD reader/writer doesn’t work and Dell support says they can’t help me. I bought it new. It’s only 3 months old. I’m hoping Best Buy will repair the issue. Otherwise I’m happy. Always liked Dell.

Hard to get the online download. I ordered two of these hard drives but one was shipped and the other came a couple days later. I kept the first but returned the second and then ordered a different brand

This is a good external hard drive until you bump it and if falls over. Then it stops working. I broke open my last one thinking I could salvage the drive inside, but no, the drive was not accessible at all and I lost all of my files.

The external hard drive came with extra software that doesn’t work with this model. Only after calling WD for help did I find that out. I was not impressed with that confusion. The hard drive has worked well once it was set up.

Does what it' supposed to, and less expensive than a portable. Make sure you have the space to stick it somewhere, and like all drives, make sure you have a backup as all drives will fail eventually.

I needed a bigger drive as my 2TB ran out of space. While this fits the space need, the drive is very slow, especially when first trying to wake it up. Still not a bad deal for the price I paid, but not what i was hoping for.

Not what I wanted. Can't use it. Stuck with it! What I needed to know about it, wasn't in the description. Consequently, it had the wrong kind of connector for what I wanted it for. Nothing wrong with the product, it's self.

The first one purchased would not show up on my computer. Had tech help still couldn't get it to show. Since it was within 30 days took back to store and they replaced it. This one works great. Have no problems with it.

Used too much space. Backed up my computer with700GB on it, only backed up a part of it. Suprisingly, it used more than 1TB on my new harddrive. I am not a tech person, but, the math does not add up.

The device itself is great and easy to use. The built in software though is horrible and there is no way to do a full back up of your information. Buyer beware. Google it first.

We have not been totally happy with this as a backup. Software runs all the time takes up a lot of memory. Took it awhile to start working.

Its reliable storage option, so far no issues. But i wish i could have chosen the compact option which doesn't required power cable. It makes life lit bit easy compare to this..

Ends up that this is too slow to use as a recording device for DVR application. But fine for general storage device, price was well worth it.
