Purchased to add DVR and streaming functionality to a Tablo Dual unit used for both streaming and DVR functionality. WD has been on top the heap of the consumer level storage for some time as Seagate has fallen short for quite a few years now, so I know I can count on this drive for some time to come.

I've purchased several of these for both personal & business use. I purchase many different brands, but if I want to minimize the chance of having a DOA or dead drive in 1 year. I purchase WD. I've had extremely good luck with the longevity of these drives.

Disk so far has been great. A BIT concerned because the box did NOT have a seal AND the printed instructions were missing. (The box did NOT have a seal). It was not delivered from other vendors have been received. In every other aspect the disk has performed to expectation. (I was wondering if it was a return or a referb).

This is now my 3rd Western Digital External Hard drive. I have an older 2GB from 2011 and another 4GB from 2015 that still work great. I did have a 2gb from Seagate a few years ago that completely died losing a ton of files I wish I backed up, dumb move on my part, personally I've had nothing but issues with Seagate and refuse to go back. The great thing is the price for these very large external drive have really dropped in the past few years, the price for this model is on sale (as of Aug 28th, 2017) so I had to pick up. One 4GB drive for most is probably more than enough. You'll be able to store thousands of photos, MP3s, Videos and endless amounts of documents. I do extensive photography and HD / very large file sized 4K video editing so I wanted to have more space when needed. This does work for Mac computers, the file system comes pre formatted in an "EX-FAT" system, which means this can work with both Windows AND Mac. If you like the Mac OS file system, it can formatted using the Mac Disk Utility, it will only take 30 seconds. Very simple set up - no more than 60 seconds. Simply plug the drive into an electrical socket. Connect the data cable from your WD drive to the USB input of your computer and you're all set.

Bought a 4TB Western Digital and 4TB Seagate drive to compare performance. Couldn't find any speed comparisons. The Seagate won out. I'm using the drives for transferring (SD card) files from camcorders and cameras daily while on video / photo shoots. Needed the larger capacity drive while shooting on-site for a week. Also, the drive performed slightly better after reformatting to Mac. Really wanted the WD to win out over Seagate, but that didn't happen.

An excellent way to store and back up large files due to the 4TB size and the exFat format. USB 3.0 makes for rapid transfer of large files. I have used WD drives in the past and never had a complaint!!

I use this for my Xbox one. I have something like 100 games from Xbox live and the normal discs I bought downloaded onto this drive. I think there’s still a terabyte left to go. I can’t even play that many games in a year. If you fill this up with video games you are hardcore. Plenty of space for you needs.
