It was a bit more of a challenge to set this up than I anticipated. When adding several other users, it is even more challenging. A video or two to help decipher the written instructions would be great!

Got this to store and stream music and movies on my LAN. Works well. But I did not follow the WD instructions to set it up. Downloaded the PDF guide from WD website. Connected to router and determined IP address and name. Downloaded utility software. Configured shares manually. Has worked with no fuss. I do not need internet access so I'm not using cloud features. The cloud features provide an attack vector into your home network and I don't want that. Disabled cloud features. It's a simple medium duty NAS. It takes about 4 hours to transfer about 150 GB over the LAN via gigabit Ethernet wired connection. Considerably slower via wireless. However, once on the drive/NAS playback is fine with no interruption or stutter. I do have it on a power conditioner and that helps.with noise filtration. In summary, this is a respectable device for what it does. If you understand it's limits and can live with them it will serve you well. And the price is good. Those wanting higher performance and additional features look toward a more solid offering from vendors of higher end NAS devices.

Looks good so far. Accessing the My Cloud device was straight forward and setting up user accounts and share folders seemed uncomplicated. But then I tried to access folders via File Explorer and kept on getting an error message every time I tried. I tried customer support and they were very slow to respond. I ended up downloading and installing the WD My Cloud Desktop application. After accessing the drive through that app, I closed it, rebooted, and lo and behold I was able to access the drive via File Explorer. So I'm happy now, but why was this necessary? It was a time waster. I haven't played with the WD Sync or smartware programs because I use another program for syncing so I can't speak to those. I'm tempted to try tho. I have used the phone app for both an iPhone and Android and it works pretty well. And remote desktop connection seems to work fine too. So I take off a star for the issue I had installing. But right now, seems a lot better than my old Seagate Central which died just over about a month after the warranty expired (I asked them to honor it, but they would not).

Overall, this product meets the requirements for a good size backup drive. It is fairly simple to set up. It is slow backing up over the network comparing it to a drive directly connected to your machine. It is a little cumbersome to manage folders the way I like to manage them. It's a pretty good deal for the price and certainly provides ample space to backup all your files, you just have to make sure you have the time to get the first backup. Multiple device interface isn't the most user friendly system on the planet but not a deal breaker by any stretch. It seems to have a problem when you disconnect from it after using it outside your network and I have had to reboot the drive a couple of times after this type of use. All in all, knowing what I know now, I would definitely buy it again though.

If used correctly, this device can improve the security of your electronic ID and the security of your data. I have been increasingly concerned about the privacy of my data with a fair amount of it stored in various cloud services (Microsoft, Google, etc.), which led me to look at alternate options for keeping my data. This device provides a viable alternative to these services. While setup on my network was not quite as simple / straightforward as the marketing literature would have you believe, it is no rocket-science provided you read the instructions carefully and follow the steps which are very well documented in the user guidelines. The model I purchased (4 TB) is a massive amount of space which would have cost tens of thousands of dollars 10 - 15 years ago, but is now available to us - Joe Public. I have about 6,000 various PDF's and office documents, 4,000 music files (songs) stored in various computers / cloud services and about 16,000 digital photographs (something of an amateur photographer) on separate storage devices. All of these are now in a single place and available for all machines I have granted access to (laptop, desktop, tablets and phones) from any location. The logical concern is: what happens if this storage device fails? Got that covered too with a backup Passport storage device attached to it. WD has been smart enough to create additional software to provide automated backup which you can schedule as you choose, making your single point of failure more secure. Of course, this will not work if you have some disaster (like a fire) which destroys both devices. A final benefit is that my son (who is deployed overseas with the military) is now able to stream music from the storage device provided he has internet access. All in all, great value for the money. Your experience of this product will initially be impacted by how well you read the setup and use instructions so I suggest taking a few minutes going through them before hooking it up to your network.

Pros: This NAS drive works well overall. The setup was simple and connecting from other computers in the network worked well. The WDMyCloud works well with the Android tablets. Cons: Writing is much slower than I would expect over a Gigabit Ethernet connection. I connected several portable External USB hard drives to the USB Expansion Port with no results! I finally had success after connecting my 750GB USB3 WD My Passport. I tried to copy a 35GB backup file from the Passport onto the My Cloud and discovered the real meaning of slow! Conclusion: I like this item and would recommend it, as a cost effective network storage for moderate use. I wish the USB port were a direct connection for faster writing.

I bought this instead of spending extra for a larger hard drive on my new laptop. I have a lot of music and pictures, so this was a great option for me. Setting it up on my home network was fast and easy; I was done within fifteen minutes. Transferring files from my windows machine was a total pain, but when I switched to my Mac, it went quickly. There are times when it drops off my home wifi network for no reason I can find, but I can usually reconnect within minutes. It's a pain when I'm trying to transfer files or sync with iTunes, but not a deal breaker. Overall, I'm happy with the device.

Pros: -Easy Setup -Reliable Performance -Great Capacity -Great Price -Useful included software Cons: -Certain file types not supported -Automatic backup can consume a lot of system resources -ITunes Media Server and DLNA streaming are advertised as product features but really aren't that useful. Overall: Great security for at-home computer backup and storage, great to be able to access files from anywhere in the world, newer models are available but this meets all of my photo, document, video, and computer backup needs.

Easy to set up physically, but that where it ends. This product has a learning curve that I would rate as 8 out of 10. And 10 isn't good. Once installed the owner is directed to WD website to download "Learning to Use" software. Also instructional videos are available. The drive needs to "think" which makes it slow to use. Large amounts of data at one time almost drives the device crazy. Learning curve, slow transfer, and allowing access to relatives is also hard to figure out. Maybe once I learn to use all the features, the pain of setting up will be worth it.

The My Cloud 4TB drive has a ton of space for all your music, movies, and photos. It also works with my Roku so I can stream all my music from the My Could to my living room through the Roku Media Player app. It was pretty easy to set up. The only complaint I have is that it's not as fast as I would hope it would be. It's connected via an ethernet cable and the speeds are a little slow when copying large files. Small files are OK, but when I backed up the files off my PC onto it, it took a few hours. Other than that, it's been great.

Can't beat the price for 4tb. I have been using it to stream movies through dlna, and it works well. Passwords can be reset easily so to store movies, music, and photos it works great. If you want to store anything that has more private data like tax returns, etc , you make want to get something with an encryption option.

I had been using Dropbox for my storage needs, but after doing a cost/storage analysis. You can't beat 4TB for this price. I can now store all my important files, pics, and videos in one place today and into the future. Only downside is the slow file transfer rate between the device and computer, but not a deal breaker for me.

When initially looking for a standalone/network drive I was looking at the 2TB which was priced pretty good. For the heck of it I clicked the 4TB and was shocked how little more the cost of it was. Well 4TB it is. I got it home, plugged it into the network. It showed up pretty quick Under my Network section. The instructions that came with it was not correct. I could not connect to it via the way listed. I had to bring up a command prompt and type in 'ping wdmycloud'. This gave me the IP address which I could then connect to. If I put wdmycloud in the browser it would auto add a .com which was not getting me to my device. Once I got this figured out I was able to create an account and start making media directories. I made a movie folder and allowed it as a share. I then went to My Computer, Networks, WDMyCloud and started copying movie files over to it. Pretty simple. The only reason I gave it a 4 and not 5 star is that the transfer speed is slower than I would have expected. I was aware of this due to previous reviews here on BestBuy.com as well as other sites. Other than that It's great. I can access it from my smart TV, tablet, and PC. The MyCloud account allows me to administer it when I am not home. It also provides the option of hitting the shared folders remotely, but I have not tried this yet.

The Western Digital MyCloud was easy to set-up - basically, just plug it into the router and it's ready to go. Time Machine integration was simple and the auto back-ups are working flawlessly. My only complaint is that the documentation is pretty skimpy and I found it difficult to access the dashboard after the initial setup. All in all, a very good product.

So far I have installed 3 of these drives and they are relatively easy to install and software is easy to configure if you are somewhat technical. There are some quirks with the software in that I was not able to set up separate file folders for my 2 Macs, they dump all files into one. But for Windows I like that I can easily set up password protected file folders for each computer on the network. But if you do that, each has to have separate user/passwords. What I don't like is how hot this thing gets as I have had very bad experience with WD drive failures over many years. It also is very slow, so when you set up multiple computers at once, it literally can take a couple days to backup all of them. Thankfully the software does it automatically at night. But for the money, this is probably your best consumer grade backup drive for networks.

I purchased the MyCloud when my 1TB hard drive filled up with all the footage I'd taken but hadn't sorted though yet. I'm very pleased with the MyCloud. It's accessible from anywhere (as long as it remains powered and plugged into your modem - it can't overcome power or service outages, so keep that in mind) which means I can upload my footage, pics, docs, etc. wherever I'm at and keep from clogging the storage on my various devices. The only downside - and perhaps I should have done a little more research on this before I purchased it - is that it can't be used like a typical hard drive, so you if that makes you nervous, you might either consider another option or backup your backup to something you're comfortable with, like an external hard drive. Otherwise, you simply upload via wireless connection and I have mine set to just do it automatically. I've decided I'll backup the super important stuff to a hard drive I can plug into and access directly from my computer in case something should happen to the MyCloud. That being said, I would absolutely buy it again. I'm extremely pleased with it.

Pros: Price, easy to use/manage, IOS app is easy to use. Great if you are looking for an easy and economic way of having your private media online. It works very well as a media server for smart TVs. Speed is very decent. My only Con: random failures when backing up this drive to another external drive.

I love my WD My Cloud. I can access files and photos from anywhere outside my house and on a smart phone. I wish there were 2 important enhancements: 1) Encryption - if someone steals my WD My Cloud they have access to all my files. I have to create TrueCrypt containers for my sensitive data. 2) Photo indexing - whenever I load a lot of photos on the drive I can't control when it goes about creating thumbnails, etc. for them. That's important to do, but when I'm loading 300g of JPEGs I want to turn that feature off and then back on after I've loaded my files. My initial loads took DAYS and I suspect it was because of this. Other file types when much faster. Remember, you can't just have this as a standalone drive...you'll need a back up. I had an old 3TB that I converted to my backup and use my 4TB as my main drive. Also, it's smart to use the USB port to back up data to another device and take off-site - you never know what might happen!

The unit setup was very easy, no issues were encountered during setup. When copying a large block of files the system slows down after a bit. If you pause the transfer, wait a bit then continue the transfer rate goes back up then diminishes over time. Overall, I'm happy with the device.
