Full disclosure, I don’t read instructions, however, I didn’t see any that would have made using this drive any easier. I’m still not sure how I finally got it to work, but eventually I did. Now I just hope if I ever need to use it to restore a drive that I can figure that out too. I’ve been using computers since 1983.

I use this for backing up my home pc. It became really slow to transfer the backup. I defragged and it didn't solve the issue. I followed the instructions on WD website to format the drive and it also erased all of the preinstalled software. WD customer support was useless. They would only respond by email and give generic responses to my problem. I can drag and drop files to copy but the automatic back up is so slow. Im going to use it for an extra storage for my ps4. If that fails I will be out $60. Disappointed.

I cannot rate this fairly, as it did not work for the intended purpose. This is probably user-error, but i got this storage device to transfer and store data (home videos, movies, etc) from an apple laptop to this. This stated it was adaptable and would permit this. It seemed to require an additional step for this to made possible, but it never worked. I suppose its a straight-forward transfer and storage on pc computers, but not so much for apple.

Took a very long time to download software. No instructions included with the item. VERY SLOW backing up. It finally did the job, so 2 stars for that.

Works well with older laptops. On newer laptops thw laptop can't find the device if it does show up can't open or accesa data.

Bought to replace an old Seagate portable drive that was getting noisy. Drive works OK; however, backup software supplied with drive is very poor. Slow, fails to back up all files, scheduling never seems to work as intended. Had a HD failure a few years ago and the old Seagate saved the day- don't have same degree of confidence in the WD backup tools so we have started using Windows Backup to handle this. Expected more from a company that has been around as long as WD.

I have 3 of the older ultra drives, bought this one because the others worked well and were easy to use. Not so with this one. Programming has been "updated" to something unlike the older one that worked well. It is not like the ultra model. I had to copy-paste and drag- drop to transfer files, it backed up the files fine, but would not recognize them for the new machine. Too bad, I will not but this model again.

I tried using it in my Mac and it took me 1 hour to figure out how to use it

I use a surface, and have had issues with it reading files from this external drive.

This seemed like it would be a great item to have. It was easy to hook up but if you need to replace your hard drive I wouldn't get this product. It doesn't seem to keep any of the recent back ups. The only one that's on here is the original back up from over a month ago, but I can see that it backs up every day. So something isn't right. I'm going to have to get with the mfg to find out what is going on.

Had problems updating the software. Didn't work the best.

Was at Costa Mesa BB, appointment with Geek Squad re: recovering data on desktop. Suggestion was made to add the portable hard drive. I've not been able to access the data on the hard drive. It would almost seem useless but it also may be I was misdirected or not understanding of accessibility. JoeB

VERY disappointed. NONE of the data is accessible. I was under the impress the brand was one of the best. The device quit working after just a few months. NOT enchanted. After the Coronavirus is over, will come into the store and see if they can repair, or replace.

I purchased this from Geek Squad when my computer went down. They downloaded my files; however, it is not working at this time. It does not automatically save my files on the external hard drive as it did in the beginning.

I find this drive very difficult to use as it is not clear in the software exactly how to get the backup to work... also it is quite cumbersome to try to find the files that are created by the backup, you have to click through folder after folder after folder after folder to get to the actual files.

unhappy with a back-up item that doesn't allow me to plug it in and then walk me thru the back-up process. I found it difficult to use and don't want to have to watch a tutorial to be able to perform a simple process. would have returned the item if there was an easier to use item available.

It was not as easy to use as the Best Buy professional promised and we can not tell if is really working the way it is supposed too. I can't find my files and it does not seem to be saving things on a regular schedule.

Love the color however I went in for a repair and tech told me I needed for files although I felt like I didnt. He upsold me needlessly as if the computer repair wasnt expensive enough. Gave to my son so he could use for school. He said it works well.

When first purchased it worked fantastic. But after a while it would not do auto uploads on date and time. I then had it set up to do all days still to no avail. I have to do manually. Which defeats the purpose.

I went online to see how this device works. Everything is written in a strange geek language. I have used data backup devices before without any difficulties. I'll be heading to BestBuy in the new year to see how this device works. Hope it is simple.
