Like any external hard drive, there are moving parts that can be damaged if not careful when handling. Therefore, the life of the hard drive depends on how an owner handles it. However, out of the many hard drives I have owned, I prefer this hard drive over any other. It has a lot of space for raw files/images, easy for travel, and lasts a long time if cared for properly. I have 2 of the WD-My Passport for Mac hard drives and wouldn't use any other.

After dealing with FreeAgent hard drives and having one crash and customer support wasn’t so supportive I looked for a new brand. Well that was 10 years ago and I have been with WD ever since. I do a lot of photography, videos, and just production period. This is a lot on a hard drive but WD stands up to the test. Love this hard drive and the many others I have, very fast transfers, and very seamless.

I wanted an external hard drive for my husband's iMac that I recently placed a new internal hard drive in. Saw this one and made the purchase. Plugged it in, immediately was recognized by his machine as it's already formatted for your Mac, and away we went. Have had no problems whatsoever, working as it should every day. I highly recommend this particular external hard drive if you own a Mac.

I own a Passport that’s several years old and functions very well. When the time came for me to add storage to my new MacMini (which doesn’t come with a boatload of available storage) I used my old muscle memory and bought the same drive. It’s got a slightly updated look (the old drive was more prosaic) and works as reliably as my previous drive. Highly recommended!

As a family, we have been transitioning from PC to Mac. We needed to transition from an older backup storage device to something compact and already formatted for Mac. This was the perfect solution. I've been using WD products for many years. Convenient. Reliable and firmware upgradeable through WD Discovery app that keeps the units working at full steam. For the money a solid purchase. I currently use five different types of drives. I am a photographer who edits and backs up quite a bit of data and I have found these drives very reliable.

For the longest time I needed another drive. My old one was very old and very outdated. I needed one that was portable, fast, secure, and overall a great product. This drive was just that. I do a lot of video editing and instead of keeping everything on my MacBook, I keep it not he drive. It works fast and efficient and i would definitely recommend it to others.

Purchased a new MacBook Pro at the same time I purchased the hard drive. I have thousands (7K) of pictures of the grandchildren that I have to safeguard. Very pleased with the storage capacity and the price! So small it could fit in your shirt pocket. Cables were included for both of my laptops, old MacBook is 2011 version.
