I never had the opportunity to play this game when it first came out, but I've always heard about the Yakuza series in passing.
Finally decided to give this game a try and wow; I was not disappointed. The story is incredible and the graphics are incredibly detailed and immersive. Hours packed with gameplay (finished the game in 38 hours and still there's more sub-stories to complete).
The box is sleek and has great artwork, but the game is what's focal about this product.

this is my first time playing this series. I was craving a really good action game that was NOT first person and didn't rely too heavily on online play. Not only are the graphics excellent, the story line is excellent as well. Not only that you cannot top this price. For 30 dollars you receive a steel case? That is excellent especially for those "old school" fans who prefer hard copies of their games rather than this digital craze that has taken hold. Well worth the money in my opinion folks. In addition, I also plan to go get the other games in the series which I believe there are 6 of them. Good times folks!

So first off, the steel case is beautiful! The game itself? This game is a remaster from a PS2 classic. All re-done voice acting too. It looks great, especially coming from the old school game haha. It also plays great!
If you're like me, you may have played Yakuza 0 first. Well, this game is like that! So if you finished Yakuza 0 and want more, then this is a great way to go! Plus you get to see more story after the prequel. If you haven't played Yakuza 0 but want this game, definitely play Yakuza 0 if you want the backstory!

Very happy to finally play the original Yakuza game with PS4 graphics. I never played the PS2 original, so this is all new content for me. It's especially cool since I finished Yakuza 0 earlier this year, and this picks up where that one left off. This is also probably the best steelbook I've ever purchased for a game. The slipcover and steelbook work together to create a cool graphic with Kiryu, Nishiki, and Haruka. They could have easily charged $60 for this game, and even more for the steelbook, so $20 is an absolute steal. Buy this game, now!

I remember playing the original on the PS2. It was amazing at its time to have all the weird side quests intertwined with the main story. The fighting back then wasn't as smooth as it is today, but they did the game right by updating the graphics and the fighting to mirror some of the newer Yakuza entries. You're not getting a lengthy game, but why do you need to? The game retails at a much lower price and even comes with a really nice steel book case to boot. Love it!

I honestly didn't think I'd enjoy this game one bit going into it. I played Yakuza 4 briefly on the PS3 and stopped for whatever reason, the only memory I had of it going into Kiwami was a Batman-esque combat system (which I loath), however, that wasn't the case at all. This game quickly ended climbing the ranks of one of the best out there, the story is great and the fighting never gets stale. One major note is that I didn't feel like it was worth using the the Dragon and Brawl(/) fighting styles because Beast and Rush were so good. I'm not very good at games where there are too many combos to remember, so that's likely why. I am waiting for Yakuza 0 to go down a little in price to snatch that up whilst waiting for Yakuza 6 next year. Hopefully Yakuza Kiwami 2 gets localized as well!

This is a very well-done remaster of a classic game. The game mechanics are actually improved and make the game more fun for current players. The PS 4 Pro graphics are a pretty good enhancement overt the regular PS4. The steel book is very well designed.

Yakuza Kiwami is the remake of the first yakuza game. These games are tremendous fun to play and sometimes to watch as well. The story is always well told and sometimes long cutscenes are part of it. While not following the main story progression there are a ton of mini games a player can choose to partake while exploring the world and leveling up the main character. There are now a total of 8 yakuza games and most of them are receiving the remake and remaster treatment and being brought out to the PS4. This series is one of the best when it comes to video games and I highly recommend it.

I discovered the Yakuza series in 2016 when Yakuza 5 went on sale on PSN for $5. I thought the game looked weird and I questioned whether I'd like it, but I figured for the price why not?
That impulse buy introduced me to my favorite game series of all-time - Ryo Ga Gotoku, or Yakuza as it's known in the West.
I adore this series. 5 was a bit wonky and hard to get into, but Yakuza 0 and Yakuza Kiwami have brought a tremendous amount of polish to the series.
Being a remake of the first game, you get to start the series from the very beginning - and it is completely worth it. The characters are very well-written, the story is extremely engaging, and the combat is extremely fun and satisfying. On top of that, there are dozens of minigames, many of which are very enjoyable on their own.
This is one of the best games released in 2017. And it's 15 bucks. And it comes with a really cool steelbook. Why haven't you bought it yet?
Get it - you won't regret it!

Great game and nice graphics and wild storyline. The extra added features make this game a longtime favorite. Lots of extra added gameplay to enhance the play off this great game. I hope they make more Yakuza story line games and maybe next time Yakuza versus the Mafia. Just another thought for the game designers for the next Yakuza PS4 version.

I'd never played a Yakuza game before this one and I was tempted to buy Yakuza 0 first but I read reviews that said Kiwami was 'worse' than 0 because it was a remake of a ps2 game. I thought it would be best to start with the worst of the two games so that I could move on to better games. I still have yet to play 0, but I can safely say that this game is fantastic. It is full of content, the story is wacky and fun, the setting is fascinating, and the gameplay is rewarding. The game is full of very deep mini games and your bound to find one that is your favorite. I really think this game is great and has so much diverse content that you're bound to find something you love.

My first Yakuza game and I already know I am going to play all the other ones. Story, sidequests, setting, gameplay, etc.
If you are into crime stories and a world you can be part of and get lost in this one is for you. If you want the full experience expect 80+ hours. Can't wait for Yakuza 6.

I'm new to the Yakuza series and I've only played Zero-which I loved. The all Japanese cast took a bit to get use to but I eventually ended up loving the whole experience. This remake adds a bit more to the original and builds on Zero. It's a shorter experience but worth a play through.

This game is a remake of the original Yakuza game on PS2. Looks great on the PS4, and the steelbook inclusion and bargain price point make this a trmendous value.

I've always heard the Yakuza series was fantastic but I never gave it the time of day until now. I was itching for something different and the price point of Kiwami ultimately drove my decision. I had some expectations going in. I was under the idea that it would be a more story driven smaller scale GTA clone. Though that is in some ways true, Yakuza has a certain charm that separates it from GTA. In this remake of the first game, you are in the small fictional city Kamurocho. As Kazuma Kiryu you will run around doing small fetch quest, fighting goons, collecting secrets, and diving into the multiple mini games Yakuza Kiwami has to offer. The story is filled with mystery and intrigue around a little girl somehow tied to a large amount of money stolen from one of the families. The gameplay and controls are solid. Combat is simple at first but as you unlock abilities it becomes a complex but satisfying dance. Unlike GTA, you cannot steal vehicles but instead you are on foot at all times unless you use one of the taxis placed at specific locations. The map is small enough to get around and with plenty to encounter in the street so it doesn't feel arduous to get around the city. Tons of sidequest and random encounters are around every corner so it is hard to get bored. I also want to bring up that Yakuza introduced me to one of my favorite characters of all time, Majima. I will not go into depth but Majima brings so much levity to the game that was unexpected in all the right ways. This game is a blast and I cannot recommend Yakuza Kiwami enough.

Nice Steelbook! The game that started the Yakuza series. I have not played the original version but they obviously took a very hard effort on this port/remaster as the gameplay was modernized on par with Yakuza 0.

Yakuza has been around for quite sometime but has really found it's audience in the West over the past couple of years. This is a remake if the first Yakuza game that is done pretty well. It has a great story, great combat and great visuals and is a welcomed return for the franchise.

This was my first game in the Yakuza series and I now know what I've been missing. This game is a ton of fun and I'm glad I got it.
The combat is satisfying and I like that you can switch between four different combat styles to mix it up a bit. There's the brawler style, which is a mix of fast and powerful attacks. Then there's the slow and powerful beast style. Next up is my personal favorite, the rush style, that is great for quick punches and still packs a powerful punch. Lastly, there's the dragon style; dragon style is similar to brawler, but it's more powerful and a little slower, but not quite as slow as beast.
The mini games in Yakuza Kiwami are arguably its strongest (and, at times, quirkiest) feature. The mini games are a blast to play and there is a great variety, from bowling and billiards to more obscure things like pocket car racing with little kids and rock paper scissors in the form of bikini clad women dressed as bugs. No matter what you like, Yakuza Kiwami probably has a mini game that suits you.
Great features aside, Yakuza Kiwami isn't perfect. First, there's the Majima Everywhere system; at first it's kind of fun and it's quirky enough to give the game some extra life, but after a while it gets annoying having to fight Majima, your rival, so often. Another weak point of this game is the way that most missions and sub stories end up feeling like fetch quests, where you find yourself running all over the map from point A to point B and back to point A again. The in-game city of Kamurocho isn't all that big when you compare it to other games such as Grand Theft Auto V's Los Santos, but it can take a while to get from one end of the map to the other.
Overall, I highly recommend this game. While it isn't perfect, it brings some charm to the table and has an interesting story that's rifled with betrayal and plot twists. The mini games can keep you busy for hours if you get interested in them and they offer a fun, light hearted escape from the serious story.
