Over complicate something simple

I really like most of my smart locks, being able to lock my house from somewhere else or lock with my voice or include my door locks in my home automations, but this smart cabinet lock really confuses me . It doesn’t seem like it solves any real world problem, rather it just over complicated something that should be simple, locking your cabinet.
The build of the lock is fairly unassuming. It’s small, plastic, and doesn’t feel particularly high quality but not overly cheap either. It comes with several latches to suit any cabinet style. I will say this much they did think through all the different types of cabinets.
Installing the lock is really easy, you can use screws or the included adhesive tape. Given that this whole thing is built of plastic, I went for the adhesive because it was easier and even if I screwed it in, someone could rip the cabinet open if they wanted.
Setting the lock in the app was not super straightforward and where I ran into my first big issue with this lock. It relies entirely on Bluetooth to connect. I had an incredibly hard time getting the lock to stay connects to my phone to set it up and download updates. My phone kept wanting to jump between other devices and it messsd the whole setup up. This was my first clue that Bluetooth was not the best wireless standard to use on a product like this. WiFi is what should be used.
Using the lock was just as hit or miss. Sometimes it would connect to my phone and sometimes it wouldn’t. The overall experience made opening the cabinet frustrating, cumbersome and way more difficult than just using cheap child locks.
One other odd quirk I found is that there is an unlock button on the device, but I don’t understand how you’d ever use the button given that the whole lock is inside of the cabinet while it’s locked.
Overall I can’t see a whole lot of good uses for this product. It’s not particularly easy to use and doesn’t solve any problems a lock and key wouldn’t solve better.

Setup for the Yale smart cabinet lock is quick and easy. I found the youtube video to be the most helpful.

The lock comes with heavy duty 3m stickers, with screw options. As well as some extra parts and install template. There is a convenient escape button just in case someone gets locked in.
Installing the Yale app was also easy using the QR codes on the lock. The Yale app is compatible with the apple home app. Settings can be customized with unlocking and locking by time, proximity, or manual lock and unlock.
I used this to lock the medicine in the house from the kids. I am sure there are several other reasons for this lock but a sleek way for the adults in the house to still access what we need quickly since we always have our phones available.

The contents can be intimidating at first because there are so many papers and small parts. Most of the included accessories are optional or extra. The provided guides make it very easy to get lined up and secured with the two-side tape. You have the option to use screws, but the tape will be fine for most installs. The app is easy to use. All you have to do is create an account and connect the device via Bluetooth. Once you open the app, just click open and you can set it to automatically lock once you close or it can be done manually. It will work well to protect medicine cabinets or your adult beverage collection from small children, but don't expect to protect anything too valuable. It can be pried open with enough force.

Does What It Was Designed To Do, And Does It Well

This cleverly designed smart lock is useful for securing personal items in a cabinet or drawer. When engaged It will stop the door from being opened, but it by no means will stop it from being forced open by a determined person. It will not turn your cabinet into a safe, but when engaged the door is firmly shut and can be used to lock things away from children or for privacy.
Everything needed for installation is included, and I found the installation and setup process to be simple and straightforward. The Yale App is excellent and offers numerous features that make this lock useful. The App and the control and history information is the main reason someone would choose this over just installing a regular lock.
This smart cabinet lock does what it was designed to do, and does it well.

I found the installation of this to be a tad tricky. Even with the template, I had a hard time getting everything to line up just right. I used this for a small cabinet where I kept my medicines, and once I finally got it installed, it worked well. I like that my medications are out of harns way and that I'm the only one that can get in. The app was easy to use and was reliable with no random disconnects.

This was very easy to setup and I feel like the locking mechanism is sufficient enough for using this as a smart cabinet lock to secure potentially dangerous items or chemicals. Its nice to rule out physical keys in favor of virtual ones. I love being able to send someone a virtual smart key while also having the ability to revoke access at anytime, instantly. I'm thinking another good use for this would possibly be babyproofing perhaps?

I originally got this with the intent of using it on a drawer. Unfortunately, the instructions don't provide any direction on how to install it in a drawer. Fortunately, I had a cabinet that needed a lock as well.
The initial setup was absolutely horrible.
The mounting guide didn't fit properly, it took almost a dozen tries to get it to connect to Wi-Fi, it went into some kind of install loop and had me register again and again and again . . ., and after I finally got it connected . . . it randomly disconnected and wouldn't reconnect until I rebooted my phone.
Now all of that being said, it is a very secure clock. When it latches, it latches very strongly and feels quite solid.
Given how horrible setup was, I wouldn't really recommend this device. However, to be fair, it seems to work perfectly fine once you get through the setup.

Good product but gives me anxiety

Range anxiety is replaced with phone anxiety for me now.
This lock does exactly what it advertises. Its a "smart" lock that can be controlled via your smart phone. You can control if there is auto lock, and how soon after closing does it auto lock. And you can ofcourse lock and unlock it at will from your phone as well.
But, in the house, I have found so many times that I do not have my phone always on me. And am now scrambling to find where I might have left that. In which case I long for a simple remote button that I could tuck in high enough for my kids to not get to it. Or a keypad.
But that is not something I can complain about because that is not what this lock is about.
As long as folks understnad what they are buying, they are getting a solid product.
The installation instructions are easy to follow and they have templates to ensure that you don't mess up the alignment of the 2 different pieces, the one that goes on the inside of the door and fits into the 2nd piece that goes inside of the cabinet. I used the 3M tapes to install this, I don't imagine my kid or even I am strong enough to rip that out by hand. They also provide screws if you would rather install using those.
Overall a good product, if that's what you want.

This lock was super easy to install and easy to set up.
If you follow the instructions step by step, no tools are required if using 3m strips provided, it took me less than 10 minutes to install in cabinet and set up on my phone. This was so easy and it's easy to use. Do you have a medicine cabinet or maybe a cabinet that contains your cleaning agents, then this lock is the lock for you.

Great to lock kids out

With small kids starting to get curious it was time to lock up the liquor. I have quite a few smart home features and usually adopt those compatible with Apple's HomeKit. This foot the bill rather nicely. Like many "dumb" cabinet locks, this will have some tricky installation and may only work in some cabinets. I recommend anyone purchasing to first read through and think out your physical installation plan. Once it was installed in the cabinet, the HomeKit setup went about as well as anything. It's stayed connected for a few weeks now, which is better than some products out there. Locks, in my opinion, can't take shortcuts in development and should have nearly 100% reliability once they're installed. So far so good.
As other users have mentioned, the locking mechanism is plastic so this really should only be used for locking out the nosey, not burglars. There are plenty of smart safes out there for those use cases, so I actually think this is a great addition to a modern smart home.

We have locks in the house often so that the kids can't open cabinets we try to protect them from but with the simpler, cheaper options. But for what this does, it's great! It works really well for us and isn't complicated to use.
