    Tinnitus Hearing Loss

I bought this receiver as a replacement for a receiver that died after several years. I hated having to spend so much money on this thing until I set it up and saw I could configure my big giant Klipsch speakers to limit the sound frequencies at various levels. I can also use the manual equalizer but have always wound up with a tinny sound. I am a 56 year old man with tinnitus and moderate hearing loss. I have trouble hearing higher pitches; especially women's and children's voices. While this is nice at times in my daily life, it sucks big time when trying to watch a movie. I was able to set my 7.1 speakers to limit the frequency to 200hz and above except the left and right front speakers which I set at 80hz and above. This allows me to hear female voices clearly and not lose too much bass and better, not wind up with a muddy sound. The unit provides a great sound which I've come to expect from Yamaha and some wireless features that I haven't played with yet. I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to configure my system to accommodate my hearing problems and I had to share with other grumpy old folks with hearing loss. . .

So first off I'm going to say I was a big Yamaha receiver fan I own several including one that's 15 years old. Know on to the problem I hook up receiver in my bed room replacing an older model everything was great at first then came the problem out of the blue all the hdmi inputs stopped working I still have output but no input I could see set up menu for the reciver on my TV but no cable or firestick I went through the trouble to try different sources nothing works so I reach out to Yamaha after several attempts to reach them I go to bestbuy explained my situation (mind you the reciver is 3 months old )they say all they could do is try to repair it I'm not happy with that why should I have to wait several weeks for a repair when the unit should still under warranty they explained it was policy but honestly if you just bought something and three months into it it breaks not happy with Yamaha or bestbuy I would not recommend this or any Yamaha products anymore not what the used to be..

In general the Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A780 receiver does a good job. However, there are a few issues: 1) Getting the various media players to work with a 4K TV (like DirecTV, XBox One, Blu Ray Player) takes quite a bit of configuration work. Else, your screen will continuously flicker. To this day, I still cannot get my Roku 4K device to play nice and I've had to resort to connecting directly to the TV and adding an optical cable back to the A/V receiver. This should not have to be an option on such an expensive receiver. 2) For some reason, the various sound programs no longer work. 3) When first powering on all my devices, the A/V receiver will switch HDMI inputs after 10 seconds forcing me to manually change it back. I read the forums and others have been experiencing the same issues for a while so Yamaha has not fixed them. I probably would not purchase this model again until Yamaha actually fixes these problems.

I replaced a JVC RX-778VBK. The reason for the replacement was I up graded the TVs in my home and everything was HDMI, so up graded everything. I purchased an Onkyo system that was recommended by the sales associate. The Onkyo did not sound as good as my JVC system. I returned it a week later and purchased the Yamaha system. I am glad I did. The Yamaha system sounds so much better in every way when compared to the Onkyo. So much so I am going to expand the area I use for the surround sound. I really like the 2nd channel for playing sound on another setting for another room. I actually use it to expand the sound to the other side of the man cave while playing pool. I can’t say enough about this system. I liked my JVC. I really like my Yamaha. After setting up the system I decided to replace some older Pioneer box speakers with a set of Klipsch 1065834 R620F. Perfect.

I set this receiver up for a 5.1 bi-amp configuration with two tower speakers, a center speaker, and two large surround speakers at the rear. I used the supplied mic to have the receiver do an auto levels adjustment for my small listening area of 12 x 12 feet. I tried multiple times to make adjustments when the auto provided poor results but could not get good sound levels and definition from the two surround speakers. While I appreciate that this is a low end receiver I did expect something better from it. It was to replace an older Denon receiver but the sound quality was so much less that I decided to ship to the Denon to southern California and have it repaired. With the Denon the surround effect is so good that when I first bought it I thought that I was hearing people outside my house but it was the ambient noise added into the shows that I was hearing for the first time with the Denon. With this Yamaha it was back to listening in stereo mode.

I was a Sony guy since the early 90’s and was very reluctant to switch manufacturers. My last reciever was very glitchy and I was never able to get it set up and running the way I wanted to. I steared toward this reciever because of the quality, technology, and value. I have had it for two months and it has met all my expectations and has worked flawlessly. Best Buy staff was knowledgeable and did not push me to either the Sony ES or the Yamaha Aventage series but gave me advantages of each brand. I am extremely happy with the purchase.

I wanted a good receiver to use with my 3 year old speaker system that was still in the box. This Yamaha RX-A780 unit was recommended and I am learning that it can do lots of stuff. My problem is primarily that I am unaware of how to use smart technology. My last (and only) receiver in the house was over 25 years ago. I am enjoying the sounds that my system can produce. I was disappointed when the manual was not provided (other than downloaded)--the Quick Start Guide is too limited for me. I look forward to learning to use this equipment. Geek squad installer has been outstanding!!!

I bought this receiver to replace an Aventage rx-a770 that got damaged by lightning. I have a 5.1 system connected to it and it sounds great. I'm sure it's even better with 7.2. YPAO feature is great for room optimization. I like that it has preset listening modes to match what you are watching/playing. More audio-inclined people can really take advantage of the available options, but the presets work great for me. I haven't taken advantage of the Alexa feature yet, but that will be very useful when I do.

This is my third Yamaha AVR that I have had over the last 15+ years, the other two still work fine, just needed the 4K support. I also have an LG OLED tv that I used to run directly from the DirecTV box, but I was amazed when I saw how much BETTER the signal was when I ran it through the RX780, using some AudioQuest "Chocolate" HDMI cables, the picture looks brighter and clearer with awesome colors! Highly recommended!

2 months old and HDMI 1 Out quit working

I bought this receiver 2 months ago and HDMI 1 out quit working completely. Yamaha customer service is absolutely horrible. I waited on hold for 30min to speak to someone and I got disconnected. Tried the online chat and no one ever responded. Emailed Yamaha customer service and never received a response. Very frustrating considering I spent $650 on this receiver.

Thus far, this has proven to be a good A/V receiver. It has plenty of HDMI inputs, The AM/FM tuner works well, and I like the fact that it will receive Internet radio. I was a little disappointed to learn that I cannot listen to the sound output via Bluetooth, though i can stream audio to it with a Bluetooth headset. Overall, though, it was a good value and seems to be a good receiver.

I am happy with my Yamaha. After continuous obsession with the Dennon, I went to the magnolia theater to purchase it. However, after listening to the competitor Yamaha, I fell in love. I gave it 4 stars only because now that I’m home It has a little muffling in the sound....just a little. I wish it was a tab bit more crisp. However, I am still happy.

Just plug into tv arc input. Never even have to turn it on or off. It goes on and off with whatever you use. I use with Sony tv, Apple tv and Sony Blu-Ray Been buying Yamaha products for years. My R8 receiver still works perfect from 1985. Can’t go wrong with Yamaha

Good base for a home theater system. Lags a little when switching between video inputs. Great options on the present programs with ample power, but will not set-up with an older Bose 5.2 system. Bypassed the Bose and it set up fine with a set of Polks, no problem.

What a beast. 4k Dolby atmos, vision, dtsx etc.. Features packed. Just the watt is kinda low but it's perfect for my 5. 1.2 set up. The video are crisp with the oppo 203 and sound is amazing. Hopefully I don't disturb my neighbors too much lol

Had an Onkyo receiver that HDMI went bad. After much research, decided on the Yamaha..and thus far I am quite satisfied except for step. Seemed the auto setup was off on distance and set speakers large and felt that was wrong also!

Upgraded to this Yamaha from a 5 year old Onkyo. The Onkyo was great but this Yamaha coupled with my Definitive technology speakers was fantastic. Really impressed with sound and clarity. Setup was reasonably simple for an avg user.

Very happy with the RX-A780. I was looking for something I could use my Klipsch front speakers and sub, and add wireless surrounds with (2) MusicCast 20's. Works and sounds excellent. Nice to have the phono input too.

I really am enjoying this unit. It works well and audio (and visual) works great and sounds great. Use the phone app to control it---much easier than the remote (and I don't even know where the controls are on the unit itself).

This is my second Yamaha theater receiver, upgrading to allow 4k pass through and HDMI connections. Had the first one for 15 years and still using it in another room. Easy to use, great sound, and fair price.
