||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought the Roku3 to stream MLS Soccer, (requires Account with MLS Soccer) and Netflix, (requires Account with Netflix). After initial setup of the device, which was pretty simple, it has performed flawlessly. So to summarize I would have to say it does everything I expected so I am Happy.

Q: QuestionWhat are the free channels that you can watch with Roku 3?
Asked by Sunshine.
- A:Answer There's a list at http://www.roku.com/channels/#!browse/movies-and-tv/by-popular But one thing to keep in mind is that some "free" channels are only available to you if you currently subscribe to a cable/satellite service that includes them. For example, I have basic cable, so I can't view the ESPN channel to watch my college team play. On the other hand, I can watch the "ESPN Skycam" channel for my team, for free. The skycam is just audio and video feed from the overhead camera. There's no "personality" commentary or instant replay but I actually like it better this way! HBO Go and Showtime Anywhere you can't watch without a subscription. But there's a ton of "Indie" channels that offer stuff for free. Then there's "free" channels like Flixter, that you can add and browse for free, but charge you to watch a movie. Similarly, the Amazon channel will let you watch Prime movie for free if you have a Prime account ($99/year, now) or you can pay $2.99 to $4.99 to watch a non-Prime movie or tv show. Still, there are so many free channels that it can take a LONG time to sort through them, preview them, add or delete them. The website is the best way to review and decide which ones to add to your device. Doing it through the device on tv is very slow.

Q: QuestionWill this work if you don't subscribe to cable TV?I purchased an LED (1080 by LG) for my mom but she doesn't subscribe to cable TV and I can't figure out how to get her local channels to come through on this new TV. Do I need to purchase an HDMI cable AND this box? Will having both of them fix the problem?!
Asked by gypped.
- A:Answer I just recently purchased the following antenna from Best Buy: Antennas Direct - ClearStream 2V Long Range HDTV Antenna for $99.99. If you see it advertised for less elsewhere show Best Buy and they will price match. I did my research beforehand at the following websites: www.antennaweb.org and www.tvfool.com. These sites are great tools to know which direction to point the antenna to receive free over the air channels. Luckily, previous owners of my house had a Dish satellite on the roof so everything was pre-wired for me. I took down the inactive Dish satellite (I currently have underground cable TV) but kept the mounting rod there and just clamped in this antenna I bought from Best Buy, pointed to approximately 50 degrees (compass on smartphone) per websites stated above, and made proper connections with coaxial cable. Let me tell you that now I get the following channels free: NBC, CBS, ABC, CW, PBS, Univision, Telemundo, UniMas, TV27 (Orlando channel), FOX, myTV, and a bunch of Independent and religious channels of course lol with no pixilation or distortion (haven't seen how it holds up against FL rain yet though). The websites above indicate how far the broadcasting towers are from your home for each of the free channels so you have to buy an antenna within the corresponding range ie my towers are about 40 miles away so this antenna I bought from Best Buy is 50+ miles so it was perfect. As most things it can get trickier if you live far away or the frequency is weak, there are preamplifiers available which help boost the signal. I ordered the Winegard-LNA-200 which should be arriving next week. I don't think I really need it but I want to connect it to see if maybe another channel comes in. :) So with having free local channels I too am interested in the Roku 3. It has high reviews just like the antenna I bought. My plan is to cancel cable subscription and stick with local channels and whatever Roku has to offer. I'm planning to definitely sign up for Hulu Plus which would be $7.99/month compared to my current bill of $100+. I have read over and over again about needing to have cable subscription but I am hoping using someone's active account would bypass this (fingers crossed).

Q: QuestionIs there a subscription fee to watch the "1,500 entertainment channels" advertised in the Product Features section?.....and what are some of those "entertainment channels?" CBS, NBC, etc; or something else?
Asked by Sunshine.
- A:Answer There are a ton of "extra" channels, some of which require a subscription, but most are free after registration. It's like hundreds of mini channels, specific to certain things, like scifi, sports, gay lifestyle, etc... I didn't go through the whole list but I did find several channels to add to my Roku, but I still spend 99% of my time on Netflix or Hulu or Crackle. Crackle's good!

Q: QuestionWired Network ConnectionMy TV is in a separate room from the computer and router. How can the Roku be set up since there is no cable from the TV to the router? Will I have to purchase a wireless bridge to complete the set up ?
Asked by Slag.
- A:Answer You will need a wireless router at your computer, then hook up the roku to the tv...roku will then hook up to your wireless router.

Q: QuestionHdmi cableWill I need an HDMI cable with the Roku 3?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Yes, you will need an HDMI cable. Also recommended, but not necessary, is a 2GB Micro SD card for channel information and game storage. Roku 3 does not download media to the card, it only streams. You can also use a USB stick with Roku 3 to view downloaded videos, photos, and music. I currently use 32GB and 64GB USB sticks and have had no problems accessing content.
