Great Dryer But...

This really is a great dryer except I was expecting/hoping it would be quieter than my 10 yr old top-loading GE electric dryer. It certainly dries heavy loads quicker than my old dryer but it also balls up my sheets and towels like my old dryer. It has a lot of great features but I am limited with regards to what sub-settings I can change under a specific main setting. For example, the steam dry is nice but I cannot adjust the time so if I want to steam dry something for longer than 20 mins I have to start it all over. My only other complaint is the annoying musical tune it plays when done. It doesn't go quiet until the door is opened or it plays itself out. It can get annoying if you are caught up in something (like your fav tv show) and can't get to the dryer though that would not be a problem if your laundry room is separate from main areas of house. Overall not a bad dryer though next time I would spend a little more to hopefully get a higher quality performance.

Very little control over drying temperatures

Before I bought the Samsung DV431AGP gas dryer, I did a lot of research. I was impressed by the look of the machine, the 13 preset drying cycles including steam refresh and steam wrinkle away, the five temperature settings (high, medium, medium low, low and extra low) and the five dry levels (very dry, more dry, normal dry, less dry and damp dry). I have now been using this dryer for almost 2 months and I must say that I am extremely disappointed in it.
Here is the problem. The dryer dictates the temperature setting for all of the cycles other than manual dry. Here are the temperature settings by cycle:
Cycle Temperature(s)
Normal - Medium or High
Heavy - Duty High
Perm Press - Medium
Towels - Medium or High
Bedding Plus - High
Delicates - Extra Low
Wool - Low
Sanitize - High
Quick Dry - High
Air Fluff - None
Refresh - High
Wrinkle Away - High
Time Dry - All temperatures
The care instruction tag for most of the items that we dry including clothing and sheets, say that they should be dried using tumble dry low. I did not know when I bought this machine that even though one of the temperature selections is low, you can only select that for wools. The default for permanent press is medium heat and it cannot be changed. If I want to do bulky items using Bedding Plus, your only choice is High. I checked my sheets and comforters and they all want you to use tumble dry low.
The funny thing is that according to the special laundry tips on Page 31 of the Samsung manual, for Curtains and Draperies it says to use the Perm Press cycle and Low or Extra Low temperature to help minimize wrinkles. If you use the Perm Press cycle, you can only use the Medium Temp so this laundry tip is useless for this machine and implies that you cannot dry curtains and draperies in this machine without getting wrinkles. The same is true for the Tip concerning down-filled items. It says to use the Normal cycle and the Low or Extra Low temperature setting. The only temperature options for Normal are High or Medium. So this Tip is also useless for this machine and if you use this setting to dry down filled items you may end up destroying the down filling. I did some research on dryers from other manufacturers such as LG, Whirlpool and Maytag and they all use Low temperature as the default for Permanent Press.
Lastly, I dried some light weight blouses using the Delicate cycle and the Less Dry drying level. The blouses came out completely dry and wrinkled. I did not want to iron them so I decided to try out the Wrinkle away cycle. Because this cycle uses high heat, the blouses came out crinkled (over dried and loaded with wrinkles). I ended up running the blouses through the rinse cycle in the washing machine and line drying them.
So now I have this beautiful looking dryer with a ton of cycles that I cannot use because I cannot control the temperature that items are dried at. For blouses, shirts and pants, I end up setting a timer and partially drying them and hanging them up to dry. Underwear seems to be getting over dried and the waist bands seem to be shrinking. The dryer that I bought 13 years ago was much better than this one since it let me decide how to dry everything.
If you usually follow the care instructions for your clothing and bedding, then look for a different dryer that actually lets you use the low heat setting. You can always use the very low heat setting as Samsung suggested when I contacted them about it, but it will take a lot longer to dry your items and your electric bill will surely climb. I definitely would not recommend this dryer to anyone.

Dries clothes super fast.
The steam feature is great. Wrinkles are non-existent. If you have wrinkly clothes, just toss it in there for a few minutes and that's it.
Dryer runs quietly. Looks really nice, with the pedestal.
A:AnswerThanks for the question. It's very important that the DV431 and other dryers have adequate circulation. If air circulation is limited on multiple sides, this could effect performance and safety. Because of this, there are recommended guidelines for installing the dryer in an enclosed space like an alcove or closet (see attached). If the air circulation around the dryer is not limited, then it may be alright to install it under a counter, but I would suggest consulting the safety guidelines available in the user manual and the installation guide, or contact the Best Buy installation team for advice on your particular situation.

A:AnswerThank you for the question. The DV431AGP cannot be vented out the right hand side due to the location of the gas valve. While Samsung electric dryers can be vented 4 ways (back, bottom, left or right side), the gas dryers can be vented only 3 ways (back, bottom and left side).
