Ignore the other review
Posted .The other person who reviewed this laptop either doesn't own it or doesn't know anything about it. The reason it only has a 16gb hard drive is because everything you do is stored on a cloud. The fact that it is a solid state drive is what causes it to be a bit more expensive. These drives are extremely fast and you'll see your chromebook boot in about 10 seconds. Also, Samsung is in fact ahead of the competition by putting out their chromebooks first. These little guys are designed for those who do nearly everything on the web. And anything you don't normally do, you can find an app for. So take it from someone who's done a bit more homework than the other guy, the price is pretty good for what you get.

Not ready
Posted .It pains me to write a critical review of this product. I wanted so badly to love my new Chromebook - partially because I had researched it and decided that I loved it, and partially because I am determined to like everything that Google comes out with. At first, it seemed to have lived up to my expectations. The boot speed is fantastic and the display and physical design are even better than I could have hoped for. I knew that I would not be able to run desktop applications or any of the programs I was used to, but that was okay, because I was prepared for that, and had another computer to do that on. It was the details that were left out that disappointed me. I wanted a Chromebook mainly for organization. I found myself hating everything about my Windows computer, except for the Chrome browser. My files were all disorganized - some were on the computer, some were on external hard drives, some were in the cloud. Nothing sounded better than a computer that saved everything directly to the cloud. Google boasted that the notebook was "built and optimized for the web" and that "Your apps, documents and settings are stored safely in the cloud." When I got the Chromebook, although I remained positive at first, I was really disappointed by the file browser. What I was truly most excited about had almost no features. It did not save automatically to the cloud. There was no single space for managing all files in the cloud. Things saved to the file browser, and then, if I wanted to upload to Google Docs, I would have to go to Google Docs, click upload, find the file in the file browser, and upload it, just as I would have to on any computer. It is the same process to download a file. Why did Google say that documents were saved safely in the cloud? It is no easier to save things to the cloud on a Chromebook than any computer. Believe it or not, the file browser does not even have copy/paste functionality. When you right click a file, it shows "rename" and "delete". You cannot copy and paste any file from one folder to another, or from an external device to the computer, or vice versa. That is crazy. The only convenience was a small "Upload to Picasa" button in the browser, in case I wanted to upload pictures to Picasa. Even then, it was not automatic, and local files were not kept in sync with the cloud as I had expected. Performance was nothing special either. I will admit I have not tried the stable channel of Chrome. Performance on it may be amazing, but based on my comparisons between the beta and dev channels (less stable and more experimental), I doubt it. Even on guest mode (where none of my extensions, apps or personal settings are loaded), I found loading slow when multiple pages were open, and would find very noticeable keystroke delay. When I had logged into my account, pages and extensions would crash often, saying "Awww snap! This page has crashed..." One of the main things that bothers me is the lack of preparation on Google's part. I realize that Google had promised a date for the Chromebooks and could not postpone any longer. But Google did not even work its own products into the Chromebook. As of now, Google Docs is not integrated into the Chromebook at all. It is impossible to upload music to Google Music Beta from a Chromebook. This must be done from a Windows or Mac. Netflix is not available. The webcam cannot be used by any web application besides Gmail as far as i can tell. There are many other functionality issues that Google is yet to fix or even address. Right after I started noticing all these problems, I start seeing ads for Google Plus. I feel like Google is biting off more than it can chew and losing focus. I feel like it has almost moved on to the next big thing without properly supporting the customers of this big thing. I hope that I am wrong about this, but either way, Chromebooks are not ready at this point, and anyone hoping to buy one should wait until they are more fully developed. All in all, as I said, the display, design, sound quality and all other hardware features are fantastic, and I give Samsung credit for it. The boot time is excellent and the security seems to be just as good. But as much as I hate to admit it, Chrome OS is the problem here. Anyone wanting to buy a Chromebook should be aware of the issues I have listed. They should also know that a Chromebook is literally nothing more that a laptop with a Chrome browser. That's it. All other features available on Chromebooks are available on every other computer.

Exactly what I expected
Posted .I read a lot of reviews before buying my chromebook and it seems to me like most people don't understand what it is. It does NOT run programs like a regular desktop computer or laptop. I use my chromebook mostly to take notes in my classes in Google Docs, but I also use it a lot for Netflix, social networking, and research. It is perfect for what I need. I would not recommend this for gamers because the only games you can play are either internet or app games that can be played offline. The speed of the power-up is not exaggerated at all. I had my doubts when I read that boot time was 8 seconds, but mine is usually up and running in about 5 or 6 from being completely off. The 16GB SSD really speeds it up. Battery life!!! It is amazing. Using my chromebook on and off, I can go 2 or 3 days before needing a charge. This along with the size is wonderful. The screen is decently sized. Definitely not the biggest I've seen, but not small enough to bug me. For how light the product is though, the screen size is fine. I have read a few negative comments on speaker quality, but my speakers work just fine. They are plenty loud and produce high quality sound. I enjoy the keys that are made to enhance the internet experience. It is nice to be able to go backwards or forwards through pages I have been on without having to take the pointer all the way to the top of the screen with the touch pad. The refresh button is also nice, along with the full screen button and the button that shows open windows. I miss having a delete key, but I got used to it quickly. The lack of caps lock also doesn't really bother me. It doesn't take much effort to hold shift. I also don't like not being able to use iTunes, but I think there is a way around that. Using an iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad with new software, you can connect to iCloud, which is all your music, videos, pictures, books, apps, and whatever else you have in iTunes, except it is in the cloud. I have an iPod classic so I can't use iCloud and don't have too many details, but it is an option for people worried about not having their music. You get FREE INTERNET for 2 YEARS!!! Except you only get 100MB. I use WiFi whenever I can and only use Verizon in a pinch. It is nice to be able to connect anywhere, but the free allowance will NOT get you far. Overall, this is a great product. It is fast, light, and it does what I need. If you decide to buy the chromebook, enjoy!

Incredible amount of misinformation.
Posted .The Chromebook is something special but many reviewers confuse it with just another netbook. What the chromebook does is breakthrough stuff and it will change Internet computing for many of us. For most of us, it will not be the only computer we have -- for e.g., i have 4 others: 2 laptops and 2 desktops-- so there is no need for this machine to do everything. But, it will do almost everything i want from a computer. What the chromebook does do best of all is to greatly enhance one's Internet experience. It is also more powerful and more usable than most netbooks: i.e. it has a full keyboard, more memory and a faster processor. One would think that much of misinformation posted elsewhere on this subject is competitor propaganda but a lot of it is just plain wrong headed nonsense. TRY IT; YOU'LL LIKE IT.

It is what it is and I'm happy with it
Posted .I use this when traveling. I bought the WiFi only model. It's very thin and lightweight. When I take it into a McDonald's, I open the cover and it's on instantly with a bright screen. Close the cover and it's asleep instantly. It can take around 10 seconds to boot up if it was turned fully off. Long battery life. I'm charging it once a week or so. It has an easy to see battery life indicator so I know when to charge it. It's exactly what I wanted for my travels and it's nice to have at home as a second computer for browsing the net. We use the cloud for letter writing (google docs) and the cloud for e-mail (gmail), so all letters and emails are visible on the home computer when we return.

Google wins, once again
Posted .Love the Chome OS, it is excellent. Plug in your sd card/usb drive, and it comes up in a tab on the "browser". Then you can save photos and whatnot to the cloud. Three things I wish were different: there is no iTunes app or other similar music player that you can save music on (grooveshark sucks); no Skype app (Google+ does have hangouts though, which is nice); and I can't get the webcam/mic to work (probably a personal problem, I'll look into it). Anyway, Google rocks and this OS is revolutionary.

loss of programs
Posted .If you are one of those people that just spend all of their time on facebook when you're on the computer then this would be the best computer in the world for you. But if you like to game or use random but helpful programs, then don't buy this computer ever. It can use the internet and that's just about it.
