Seagate - Backup Plus 4TB External USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive - Black

The reason why I only gave it a four stars instead of a five stars review because when I firstly got it and plugged it in, it basically only has 3.63 TB of space...not exactly 4TB. It already had some stuff inside the drive that wasted some storage space. If you see the attached photo, then you can see there were stuff in the drive that already wasted some storage space.

Absolutely a good purchase. It's reasonably priced, extremely easy to install, the software works the way it should and the drive works the way it should. I had 2 Western Digital drives before this that I just couldn't get to work properly. I gave up on the WDs and went with the Seagate. I wish I'd done it initially. I'd have saved lots of time and heartache. (I need to give Best Buy a golden star because they took both WD drives back with no hesitation - of course I had my paperwork with me. The ONLY way I could be happier is if the USB cable were a foot or two longer. That's it, otherwise I couldn't be happier.

4TB in a compact, lightweight, sturdy package. Excellent for backups or extra storage. Great price. It's a downrev device in that it achieves USB 3.0 on the drive side by using micro USB plus that funky extra connector. But since the needed cable is included, who cares? Sure, USB C would be better, and give me more cable flexibility, but would also cost more. This gets the job done, and that's all I need.

I had purchased another drive, not Seagate, which was DOA, but I had not opened the box until more than a year. Store manager Peter said he could not replace original drive, that I had to deal with manufacturer, but he offered to help out on what was in store. Inventory was depleted. This Backup Plus was only 4TB drive available. Got a small discount for all my trouble. Windows recognizes this drive instantly, but Linux does not. No Linux drivers, not even in USB 2 mode. Linux did recognize a 10 year old Hitachi USB 2 drive.

Seagate has always been my go to brand when it comes to storage media, portable or otherwise. This is the second 4TB Seagate drive I've bought in the past year and as with my experience, it doesn't disappoint. Fast transfer rates, is immediately recognized by any PC I plug it in to, and super reliable, unlike the more ubiquitous WD drives out there.

The Seagate - Backup Plus 4TB External USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive is excellent. This unit is small and compact and works well with my new Dell Computer, Windows 10 64 BIT OS. I like the fact you just plug the USB 3.0 into your computer and you are ready to backup everything. If you need a good backup, I would highly recommend a Seagate Portable Hard Drive.

I'm no techie, but I did manage to get a backup completed satisfactorily with minimal confusion or fuss. I got the light blue color because I need to be able to see it in the black laptop bag. And yes, the cord is very short, so don't go grabbing your laptop without the Seagate in hand.

I purchased this to replace another unit with the same capacity, made by another company supposedly specifically for Mac that had become unreliable. The one I replaced was the second one that had failed for me from the same manufacturer. This one from Seagate is faster and so far has given me no trouble.
