They come preformatted and ready to use. You can save a few bucks buying a general use portable hard drive, but you will have to spend more time than you expect getting it ready for use as a game system hard drive. This one looks really cool, and it is very portable. My son enjoys the drive a great deal.

- A:Answer On Amazon, this is listed as 140 MB/s, which is equal to the WD Black 2.5 HDD and those are listed as 5400 rpm. I'm trying to find info but this is the most I can find.

- A:Answer Actually, There should be a list of compatible drives. You can't go wrong with Seagate. However, while an external SSD is better for transfer rates, you can use an HDD, but strictly for storage to move games on and off the system. You won't be able to play and Series X/S games from it, but it may play backwards compatible titles. Recommendation is to stick to an SSD external if you can, but if cost and storage is your only requirements, feel free to connect a WD 4 TB HDD to it as long as it meets the correct USB 3.1 (Gen 2) standard or 3.0. - A:Answer I don't have a Xbox s, but I do have an Xbox one. It works on it, so I would assume it will work on the s as well. Yes, you can save games to it, and play directly from it. Hooe that helps you, and good gaming.
