A: NV501 has the option to turn the vacuum into a canister. I think it also has lights on the front for vacuuming at night?...

Q: How easily and efficiently does this vaccumn clean under beds?

A: It depends on the height of the bed. Ours is lower to the floor so I cannot get the vacuum completely under the bed but I can lift away the canister and use on of the attachments to get the job done. I am very satisfied with it.

Q: Where is the filter in this vacuum?

A: There is a hepa filter in the center of the collection canister. You see it as soon as you go to dump out the dirt. There is another filter located under the canister which you see once you remove the canister.

A: No but it has a feature to help release suction of the head on the carpet

Q: Should I purchase the geek squad warranty?

A: Shark does not have authorized service centers. You send vacuums back to them for repair, at your cost, whether it's for warranty service or not. Best Buy associates told me that under their extended warranty, they will handle warranty issues, whether they send the unit back for repair, or they just give you a new, same or comparable model if yours is not available. It's hassle free on the customers end. In addition, the BB warranty extends two or four years past the mfgr warranty. The four year warranty is an extra $5 above the two year warranty: Definitely worth it.

Q: can itclean hadwood floors and pick up dog hairs.If not which shark vacuum would be best for those two chores

A: Using the "floor" mode uses suction only on non-carpeted areas. And it really sucks up dog hairs on both carpets and floors. It is really easy to remove hair from the carpet brush, because the hair wraps around individual sections of the brush making it easy to pull off sections of hair. It took Less than 10 minutes to clear all the hair from the brush. I did not need to open the floor brush or use any special tools. On my old vacuum, the dog hair and even my hair would wrap around the brush and stop the roller from turning and cause the vacuum to stop working. The only negative is the 30 foot cord can be a little awkward at times to manage. But that is an issue with most vacuums with long cords. With several hundred reviews this machine got an average of 4.8 stars (almost 5). The room after I vacuumed smelled fresh and the carpet was very clean. I was shocked at the amount of dog hair that was sucked up!
