One of the best truly wireless earbud sets

After trying out multiple wireless earbuds with connecting wires, I decided that a truly pair of wireless earbuds was the way for me to go. I normally walk about an hour a day and wanted something I could wear while doing that and while sitting at my desk in my office. I started researching and decided on four different earbuds. First was the Samsung Icon Gear X earbuds. I had heard great things about those but I don't care about having built-in storage. I pay for Google Music All Access so I can't store my songs on the earbuds, I have to play them back from my phone. The Samsung's get about 3-4 hours when playing music stored in them but that gets cut down to 1-1.6 hours when streaming music. Yeah, I didn't feel like needing to recharge the earbuds every hour. So I ended up purchasing a pair of Bragi The Headphone earbuds. Their Dash earbuds has been receiving high reviews but I don't need all of that fitness functionality (I have a FitBit). They were great when it came to sound quality but they would never truly sit in my ears because they were too big. Their sound quality also left a lot to be desired even for a pair of truly wireless earbuds. I liked that they had physical controls for changing tracks and adjusting volume. The buttons are too hard to push and I would just end up jamming the earbud further into my canal. I also didn't like that their case had to be plugged in to charge the earbuds, it didn't have a built-in battery. I then purchased the Jabra Elite Sport earbuds and their fit was better, same with the audio quality. I just kept having connectivity issues with my Moto Z Force Droid and I wasn't using any of the exercise features. Lastly, I decided to get the Sol-Republic Amps Air earbuds. Reviews for these were so divisive so I had to try them out for myself. My first impressions were that they are extremely light, their bass is better than any of the other truly wireless earbuds I've used, they have strong Bluetooth tech as I haven't once experienced a dropout in either of the earbuds, and they are lighter than the other earbuds I've used (except the Samsung's). Their battery life is decent, about average for the category and the charging case is great as it can recharge the earbuds up to 15 times, it only takes about half an hour to fully charge them, and I can even charge my phone with their case. But I had one issue: these were not staying in no matter what I did. I tried rotating them, using the smaller and larger eartips that they come with, nothing. Then I read about ComplyFoam and purchased a pair of their "Truly Wireless" eartips (the only ones that will fit these). The difference is night and day. I can comfortably wear the Amps Air earbuds all day without taking them out and the ComplyFoam tips help secure them in place. I don't have to push the earbuds back on or adjust them during the 3 hours I wear them. So, after switching eartips, I was able to conduct a fully review. I think that these have the best sound quality compared to all the other wireless earbuds. The highs are a little harsh but not the worst I've ever heard. There isn't any detail in the mids but the bass is booming without being overbearing and muddy. It's a typical v-shaped sound signature used by audio companies such as Bose, Beats, Sony, V-Moda, Sennheiser (for some of their headphones), B&O, Skullcandy, JBL, and others. I mainly listen to metal and electronic music and am pleased with the sound quality that these earbuds pump out. They aren't better than the V-Moda Forza Metallo wired earbuds but that's OK. For a completely wireless pair, the Amps Air really aren't bad. People need to lower their expectations when going into truly wireless earbuds or else they will always be disappointed. I even prefer these over the Apple AirPods that my friends keep insisting on. Not only are they more comfortable and actually fit my ears (Apple's EarPods have never fit my ears) but they have more bass and make it so I don't look like I have electric toothbrush heads hanging out of my ears. There are still some cons with the Amps Air though. Like I said, the highs can be harsh at times. I also had to purchase a $20 pair of eartips in order for these to stay in my ears. The control button (on either earbud) is easy to press in but it has very basic functionality. You have to take your phone out of your pocket to adjust volume and skip to the next track/go back. There is also a large amount of lag that makes watching video content annoying (though it can be adjusted for in programs like VLC). All-in-all, this is money well spent and these are my favorite go-to earbuds for everyday listening. They don't sound as good as my V-Moda Crossfade over-the-ear headphones, V-Moda Metallo wired earbuds, or my B&O Beoplay H9 headphones but that's OK. The two over-the-ear headphones I have were far more expensive than these and the V-Moda Metallo earbuds have their own issues too. I highly recommend these for anyone who wants to truly cut the cord and experience wireless earbuds. Just make sure you pick up a pair of ComplyFoam Truly Wireless eartips, they make the experience much better.

First, I would like to address some of the concerns that arose with myself from reading other reviews. Although most of the reviews were positive I naturally grew concerned with mentions of size, weight, sound quality, sound lag (for video) etc. I would address these first before getting to the meat and potatoes of the review. The size is not large at all, the buds fit nicely in the ear and do not seem overly large, they are not heavy even when taking into account all the electronic goodness that was squeezed into them. Sound, while not the audiophile that some of you are (truthfully I usually listen to audiobooks) but for the sake of review I spent time with my music playlists as well. I sound the sound to be excellent, definitely better than that of AirPods and better than my other bluetooth headphones and buds, great deep sound as well as good highs. Spoken word also very clear and crisp. Sound lag, if present is not an issue, I spent time with video looking for the lag, if present it was very minute. In fact, When I thought I could catch the faintest trace, I couldn't even be sure, as it was so slight, it may have been my imagination as I was staring so hard, but under normal viewing it was not an issue at all. Use: Very easy to pair. single button use is clear in instructions but I would read the couple of pages regarding buttons as I did make some errors in mistakenly turning off a bud when I though I was starting play, but that was my error. I did have an issue with having the buds turn on when removing them from the case. I contacted customer service after hours via email and I had a response first thing the following morning. I am mentioning just in case you experience this. You must make sure the bud is full seated when you place it in the case (the red light on the bud with light up when seated properly) when removed it will turn on, I have noticed that when I hurriedly put them away, I wasn't fully seating one of the buds. The other issue when taking them out, I would slip my fingers on the edges and drop the bud back into the cutout, but not fully seating it, and when i would remove it, it would not be on. Once aware of this situation, I ensure that the bud is fully seated before removing it again and have had no further issues with this. Battery side of case is excellent, 15 charges to the buds or a full charge of your phone. can't beat that. In Summary, great ear buds, quality, sound and comfort. I would buy these again.

I'm no stranger when it comes to Sol Republic product line and sound quality so when they announced the Amps Air I was hoping Best Buy got them first (in which they did..) Pricing... I was unsure about the price at first but when researching other brands with a similar design, but when I discovered this was the best priced; I bought these as soon as I could... Did I really need them? Not really since my Powerbeats2 Wireless was doing just fine for what I need them for... But being the gadget nerd I am, I purchased them anyway... Overall opinion... I was curious about the overall design since I always had a bad experience with any in ear product I have ever tried before dued to my different ear size, theses work VERY well after using a medium and large adapter. The tire trending design seems to keep the Amps in place after using the right earplugs of course. Sound quality is very impressive for such a small size, not sure if it's noise cancelling but it sure does a good job of it at 30-40% volume. Battery life is what it is to be expected but since I only use about 30% volume it lasts me a solid 3 hr 20 mins range. The battery pod is very helpful in charging the Amps Air and my iPhone when needed. The battery pod does connect with the Amps magnetically which is pretty cool. Overall theses are a great step forward to what the future could bring in the world of bluetooth wireless headphones! Great job Sol Republic!

    Awesome! But not perfect...

If you are not a totally in-ear earbud type of person these like any others will take a little getting used to. First off fully charge your Amps Air and case. Next, make sure you choose the appropriate silicone tips for best fit this is key for best sound. The tighter the seal the better sound quality you get. Sound quality is awesome; Crisp, clear and the bass is excellent not cheap sounding. To be honest way better than the Apple earpods and more than likely better sound then the Airpods. Not perfect as it may take some getting use to the earbuds being totally in your ear. For me day one was a bit painful but day two was better as i found the appropriate fit for my ears. The Apple airpods may have a slight advantage in regards to comfort as they sit on your ear and not completely in your ear canal. Bluetooth connection is quite good 0-25 ft for best results. Video playback is great no issues streaming video from my Apple TV 4. You will get 3 hours of battery life. The charging case is nice and will re charge your Amps Air up to 15 times on one single case charge. This equals 45 hours of earbud usage!! It can also charge your cell phone which is nice. The question everyone has how long does it take to fully charge the earbuds once they are ready for charging? 1 Hour... This may be a deal breaker for some. Overall very impressed. Hope this review helps.

I've been so ready to ditch the cord forever. I'm not a fan of having even the bluetooth cord behind the neck. FINALLY... I found my earbuds. The best part is they actually sound GREAT!. I'm a huge fan of clean Bass and crisp Treble. There's a lot of detail in songs that come to life with these little ear buds. To my surprise, these were super easy to use. They came with a bag of other earpiece sizes, but the ones that are on the device fit me perfect. No need to try the others. To say they are comfortable, is an understatement! Most other in earbuds are heavier and want to fall out, which requires a rubber ear assist to hold them to your ear. These are lightweight and don't cause any ear fatigue.. At ALL! That's a giant plus for me. Did I mention they sound amazing?! Pairing them to my phone was super easy. I like that they have a super snug fit, so I can't hear anything going on around me. Very sound cancelling. I have no problem with them only being good for 3 hours between recharges. Doubt I'll ever have them in for a full 3 hours at a time. The storage case always recharges them also wirelessly after each use. The case will recharge them 15 times before I even recharge the case. I was super lucky at Best Buy to find them 30. off today, on sale. I used the 30. and got a 2 yr. extended warranty. So now, they are covered for 3 yrs total. That's money well spent. Plus, if you ask me, they're the BEST Looking earbuds on the market. I'd like to hear the Apple Airpods when they come out, but I honestly am not a fan of their look. A bit too pretentious in design. These are more understated, and classy looking in my humble opinion. LOVE THESE!!! I've been searching for years and years. The wait was well worth it. Best of the best!

Honestly, these sound good. Really good for the minimalist design and are also very comfortable and don't seem to fall out. As far as the connection goes however, I have inquired with Sol Republic about whether or not these work with Apple Watch. According to them "they do". Well if anyone has tried to pair these with the watch they will immediately know there is little to no connection when the watch is also connected to an iPhone. I think there is an interference between the buds when the watch is sending and receiving BT signals to the iphone. This is eliminated by un-pairing but this is unacceptable. I shouldn't have to lose features of my watch because they don't know how to make them work together. When paired with my iPhone the sound is good. I set the EQ to "small speakers" and it seems good on this setting. The "small speaker" setting takes into consideration very small drivers and keeps the treble less tinny sounding. So far they are somewhere in the ok-good range overall. Sound - Awesome. lows are good and I have yet to put the volume 100% because its plenty loud. Design - Awesome. They're fairly streamlined and even with a hood on while running these don't get snagged like I thought they would. From time to time they do feel like they're working they're way out of my ears and have to be adjusted just a bit. I have a hard time believing this is not a characteristic of all buds. Comfort - Sometimes I can't even tell they're there. Charging Case - meh doesn't always seat the buds properly and they have to be adjusted to charge. Also, they can be annoying to take out of the case from time to time and the ear tips get stuck. Lid to case doesn't stay completely closed and is flimsy. Connectivity - not very consistent when taking them out of the case(they're supposed to auto connect) I think they are priced a bit high but not by much. I probably would be ok with the price as is if the connection was "as described" and didn't require me to disconnect my iPhone to get a good connection via my Apple Watch. In case you're wondering why I want this it is because I do HIIT while listening to music with my iPhone close by(within BT connected distance of my Apple Watch) but I sometimes get too distant from it and it will lose connection. I like the ability to use my watch as the source with my phone still able to update me in regard to texts or calls when I get back within BT range. For business purposes I need to be available all the time. Losing this aspect is a big inconvenience. For that I think they should be priced closer to where the AirPods.

Ok I was very skeptical cause I read reviews, and it helps me determine if I should buy them or not. And these true wireless headphones had got like a 3.7 rating or so. But honestly I was very impressed! Absolutely shocked! I was gonna wait for the new Sony true wireless headphones to come out In October before I bought a pair of these style headphones, but I decided I’ll give these a try until then. See the only thing I REALLY don’t like about these headphones is the battery life only 3 hrs, the new Sony ones will have a 9 hrs battery life but honestly I’m not gonna have these things in my ear 24 hrs a day so when I take them out back in the case for a little charge until I put them back in so really you don’t notice the 3 hr battery life cause you always have the power to charge it so you never run out of battery. And the other kind of negative things I heard about these headphones was the sound on the lows, I get what their saying but it’s really not that bad at all! The bass is so deep and heavy it takes care of that! And I like a lot of bass when I listen to my music, the kind where you can just feel it vibrate you little ear drums in their!!! And these definitely have that taken care of! It’s amazing I don’t know how they do it I just didn’t believe it until I heard it for my self. And that’s probably where the battery goes so fast! Lol to power those powerful little thingys!!!but definitely the best by far! Or at least SO FAR!

I have been on a quest to find the best truly wireless earbuds since apple delayed the Airpods. The Sol Republic Amps Air were my first stop. The build quality of these was very good. They felt comfortable in my ear and held in very well while working out. Unfortunately that is all I can say that is positive for them. I purchased and returned two pairs of these due to the same problem, the horrible sound quality. The best that I can describe it is it sounds as though you are listening to an old 45 record player while streaming music from your bluetooth device. The bass sounds solid, but anything in the upper octaves especially high in treble was just awful. It helped when you lowered the volume down past half way but you could still hear the "tin like whine" in the speakers. It almost sounds as though Sol amplified the sound so much that it is producing really bad distortion in the upper registers. I really wanted to like these because they did fit very comfortably in my ears. But comfort was not enough to listen to how poorly they sounded. And it wasn't just an unlucky bad pair. Both pairs were equally as bad. I ended up purchasing Skybuds which sound 1000 times better. See my review for the charcoal color ones. For these, stay away.
