Great product at a great price
Posted .I bought the bdp-s370 for use in the family room and was so impressed that I purchased a second one for the master bedroom. If you have a newer Sony television you can take advantage of the sync feature: When you turn on the blu-ray player, it turns on the tv and tunes it to the correct input for the blu-ray. There is a lot of discussion about connecting it to the internet to take advantage of the download and streaming features. You can check out a product that uses your household electrical wiring to connect. Netgear sells a device that plugs into a wall outlet near the blu-ray. You install an ethernet cable from the player into the Netgear unit. Plug the second Netgear unit near your computer (in another room) and run the second ethernet cable from that unit into your router. Presto, you have an internet connection. I bought a second Netgear unit and plugged it in (with the same ethernet connections as the family room) at the second location. Works like a charm. You'll need model XETB1001 (two units) which is available from Amazon or e-bay for $60-$70. To connect an additional blue-ray player, get model XET1001, available on e-bay for about $26. You could connect more players in other rooms, using additional Netgear units (model XET1001). Netgear makes another model (XAVB101) which is faster, but more expensive. No, I don't work for Netgear. Just passing on some information for connecting to the internet and what worked for me.

Great Value
Posted .The BDP-S370 is a solid Blu-Ray player. The picture quality could be better if the player was connected to a newer TV. Still, despite the set being a 720P 60HZ model that was manufactured 3 years ago, the quality of video the BDP-S370 provides is an enormous upgrade from our previous 8 year old DVD player. Unfortunately, I cannot rate the wireless feature since I used an ethernet cable to connect to the internet and use Netflix. Wi-Fi is convenient, but if you want to stream video, using an ethernet cable is the best way to do it. I bought the player so that my sister can watch Blu-Ray movies and use Netflix. Its strange that she needs to use her computer to log into Netflix to add movies to the queue. Other players that cost the same or a little less allow you to use your remote to choose movies. Not everyone in her household uses the computer regularly, so it is a small inconvenience. Set-up was a snap though. Just follow the on-screen instructions and you are in business. For people who don't care about the difference between 1080i and 720P, just choose automatic to connect to your HDTV and you will be watching movies in a minute. I was surprised at how many video streaming services the BDP-S370 provides. It really adds value to the player. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.

Great first player!
Posted .I bought this player along with a new Sony LCD HDTV. This was our first Blu-Ray player and I was a little nervous based upon the growing pains that some have experienced with the Blu-Ray format. When I researched players last fall, it seemed like each model and brand had downfalls. When Sony released this new model, they answered the customers because many of those issues have evaporated. The first thing that happened when I plugged the unit in and configured the screen was that it automatically detected and installed a firmware update through the network connection. The sales rep had warned me that a new update needed to be installed before watching Avatar, so I was not surprised. Since this player does it automatically, it means that it will always be up to date with new features in the ever-evolving BD market. The menu system is familiar, you might have seen it on a Sony PS3. It's very easy to use and very efficient. After registering with my Netflix and Sony Style account, I was ready to watch HD Internet video. The first Blu-Ray movie that we bought was Avatar. The picture quality of this disc is out of this world!!! We watched another movie, which was a traditional DVD. We wanted to test the upscaling feature. While not as good as a real HD movie, there is a very noticeable improvement in the DVDs. That's good, because we own too many to replace!! The improvements that were made in this new player were terrific! The remote has an eject button and the startup times are very very quick. The disc tray is independent, so you no longer have to open the entire front panel. There are other fixes, but what matters is that if this is your first player, it will feel feature-laden and well polished. The price, while not cheap, is very reasonable and the movies are finally at a low enough cost to justify owning, right around $20. I could have spent another $20 to have the BDP-S470, which will be 3D ready soon, but I figured that is a waste of money since we won't have a 3D tv for a long time. The only thing about the player that I don't like is related to its physical form. The player itself is actually tiny. Too tiny. It's only about 10" deep and 2" tall, which means if it's on top of another unit, you can't hide the cables. It's not long enough to stack under another unit, either. There is almost no clearance under the player, so it's hard to find a place to stack it, (not on top of a hot, vented audio receiver, for example). It just looks out of place everywhere, if you know what I mean. I might find some larger rubber "feet" to place on the bottom of the player, but this issue is very minor, in my opinion. As our first player, it boasts impressive picture quality, and feels very polished as a BRD player goes. It looks like we waited just long enough to get a well refined product and Best Buy was a great place to buy it!

Sleek & Slim but Not a Win
Posted .I bought the BDP-S370 to replace an older, but very thin, Sony 1080P DVD player. The following features were critical priorities: maximum ease of use/interoperability with existing Sony audio/HDTV system, FAST BD movie startup (I'm tired of waiting 1-2 minutes before movies start (as is the case with my older LG Blu-Ray / HD DVD combo player), and unit must be less than 1.5" tall to fit in small space currently occupied by DVD player. THE GOOD: The Sony BDP-S370 delivered on movie speed: disk drawer opens within two seconds of pressing (with machine off) the Open/Close button - amazing! After inserting disk and pressing Play the Blu-Ray movie title screen was displayed in less than 45 seconds total from power on. Player is also very thin and light and does not get too hot in operation. THE BAD: Here's the problems that led me to return the unit for refund within 1 week: 1) Bravia Theatre Link using all high-quality HDMI cables started up my Sony brand Audio system, changed to correct audio input, and powered on my Sony Bravia 40" HDTV. But 50% of the time I get a "mode not supported" message on my TV after starting a BD movie, and tje movie refused to play until I open disk drawer and restart the movie. 2) The player would not play original Starship Troopers Blu-ray movie that plays without issue on two other Blu-ray machines in the house. I finally solved this problem by searching issue on Internet and discovered that newer Sony players require a USB memory stick to be inserted into rear USB port before this movie will play. More disappointing was the failure of the main title menu screen for the recently-released disaster movie 2012 to display at all - the screen is totally corrupted with wavy interference patern on screen; yet my two-year old LG Bluu-Ray / HD DVD player displays the title menu screen for this movie perfectly and I haven't updated plyer software in over a year. A brand new Sony BD player built in 2010 SHOULD play this movie without problems in my opinion - but that was not the case. 3) The operating buttons on the player itself cannot be seen if the player is at eye-level height (or higher) and the buttons are entirely too tiny; so you must use the remote for all operations. 4) If you rewind a Blu-ray movie in progress (movie 2012), a timeline bar shows up at the bottom of the screen and refuses to go away. I can find nothing in the manual that inidcates how to turn off this now continuously-displayed progress bar at the bottom 20% of the screen. Pressing "DISPLAY" on the remote toggles other information displays on and off, but it does not clear this timeline progress bar. Thus, I returned unit without hesitation and will seek another unit that "just works".

Love this gadget!
Posted .The first one I bought was an insignia "advanced series" I had to return it because the letters on the menu were ridiculously small and the remote control only worked when directly aligned. Then I read reviews online and was sold by the ratings of this Sony bluray player, although not wireless it worked much better than the wireless insignia player. I think in general blu-ray players work much better when directly connected (by wire) to the internet. The menus on this product are clear, easy, and big enough to see. I feel so good about this Sony bluray player that I felt the need to rate it, which normally I don't do. I even bought a second one as a gift. It is an awesome product and a very reasonable price.

Posted .Reciently replaced a Sony Bravia that we lost during a lightning storm. Decided to get this model for the Bravia Sync and the Netflix streaming. Although the wireless adapter would be a nice upgrade, I only needed the cabled version since my router is near the home theater system. Added bonus of Pandora radio, YouTube, Windows Media Center, and other content Streaming. Bravia Sync eliminates the need for the BDP Remote. Considering getting a compatible Bravia Sync Audio system. Tried the Hulu Plus trial that came with the receiver but Hulu seemed to be broken every time we attempted to use it. Kept getting an error about the content was not available at this time; However the same show on Hulu would stream to my PC and/or phone. Canceled our subscription so as not to get billed and Hulu immediately blocked our access even though we still had a month left on the trial. one of the few disappointments I have is that the Media Center stream Quality is really poor. Love it so far!
Posted .This is my first blue ray player and have to say my experience was good. The set-up could have been a little more user friendly but I got through it finally and set up Netflix. After the player was set up we had a router issue and had to change the password so I lost the connection the next evening but Sony chat was very helpful and I was back in business in a very short time. I didn't have to go through the whole set up again. The picture and sound are excellent with my Samsung HD LED TV. The other thing I would suggest for Best Buy is to make sure customers know they have to buy the wireless adapter. Luckily I realized it before I put my final order in. If you are a newbie with this products like me, you might be disappointed if you didn't know you need the adapter to connect to your router.

SONY BLU RAY DISC BDP-S370/BX37
Posted .Sweet deal on this little blu ray player. After purchasing the Sony Bravia 40 inch HDTV, I asked the salesperson for a blu ray player. He asked what kind and I replied "cheap, anything out the box". So he had some returned blu ray players and I got this one for $99.99. Had all the parts and was in perfect condition. Some people just either don't know how to set it up or don't know about updating the firmware on them. Or they prefer the PS3 or something else. For me, this worked perfectly. I ordered the Wireless LAN Adapter on line to connect to the wireless network. Setup was really easy. Especially if you go to sony.com/bluray support link and know what your wireless modem is. The step by step instructions were wonderful and made entering all the IP addresses a breeze. Of course if you don't know your Access Key to your wireless network, forget it. But having the wireless LAN Adapter makes life so much easier to update the firmware on these blu ray players. And I also play Pandora Radio via the blu ray player on my TV. I don't care much for Netflix. The movies are old and I can't get subtitles. I had problems with the sound quality from Netflex previously. Not sure if that has improved. Then connecting a Sony Blu Ray player to the Sony TV was easy as pie. They work beautifully together. It's nice when you have a matched set. Only complaint - wish it was already internet ready and had the wireless LAN built into it.

Q: Questioncan the "Sony - Internet Connectable/Wi-Fi Ready Blu-ray Disc Player" play regular dvds as well?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Yes, in fact it upscales the dvd's to a higher quality, assuming your TV can handle at least 1080P.

Q: QuestionWifi AdapterI've seen both answers and really want to know what one is true. Do you have to use the SONY UWA-BR100 wifi adapter with this product or will any adapter work? If you say that any adapter will work, could you give me an example of one that will? Thanks,
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer You must use the Sony adapter. It contains special "proprietary" software. Alternatively, buy the next model up in the Sony range for an extra $40 or $50 with Wi-Fi built-in. That's a better deal than paying $80 or more for the Sony adapter !

Q: QuestionWhat do I need to run wireless internet through this device?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer You don't. Just connect the player to your TV and connect the power cord to an AC outlet and you're ready to play Blu-Ray discs, regular DVDs, and music CDs. To "stream" movies from Netflix over the internet you have 2 choices. Either connect a standard network cable (ethernet cable) from your router to the ethernet jack on the Sony player, or connect the special Sony Wi-Fi adapter to the player (costs an extra $80 or more). 3rd option: Buy the next player up in Sony's range which includes the Wi-Fi adapter (costs about $40 or $50 more than this S370 model).
