Stargate Universe is the third TV series in the Stargate franchise. Departing from the format of the first two series, SG-1 and Atlantis, SGU is darker (visually and in the storyline), focusing on the conflicts among the "crew" - a hodgepodge of military and civilian personnel unexpectedly thrown together on an unmanned ancient ship millions of miles from Earth. Watch the first half of the season (first 10 episodes) just to get the understanding of how difficult and nearly impossible is the situation, and hang in there because the second half gets much better. I've always been fascinated by the Ancient technology that is so prevelant in the first two series, and SGU offers plenty of new technology that the "crew" must learn how to use in order to survive. Also holding true to the Stargate franchise is the introduction of new alien species to provide external conflicts which forces the unwilling crew members to work together in order to survive. If you are a fan of the previous two series, SG-1 and Atlantis, you will want to add this third series to your Stargate collection. Fans of the Battlestar Galactica series may also enjoy SGU because of the darker aspects of internal conflicts between the crew members.
