    Synopsis

    Super
An average guy reacts to the frustration of losing his wife by adopting a crime-fighting persona known as the "Crimson Bolt," and targeting any criminal who crosses his path -- no matter how minor their infraction may be. Frank (Rainn Wilson) is husband to former alcoholic and drug addict Sarah (Liv Tyler), and he loves her with all his heart. Their wedding day was one of but two perfect moments in this Frank's life, but when Sarah runs away with charismatic drug dealer Jacques (Kevin Bacon), the loss was just too much for her mild-mannered husband to take. Subsequently transforming himself into the Crimson Bolt, Frank reasons that if he can take down Jacques along with the rest of the city's scum, his beloved wife will soon come running back. With his homemade suit and his handy pipe wrench, Frank goes to work cleaning up the streets and starts making headlines. But just as the Crimson Bolt becomes the talk of the town, sociopathic comic-store clerk Libby (Ellen Page) reinvents herself as "Boltie," and makes a play to become the controversial street hero's trusted sidekick. Perhaps by working together, the Crimson Bolt and Boltie can make an example of Jacques, and keep the streets safe for average citizens. But real life isn't like comic books, and sometimes when an average person tries to be a superhero, things can go very bad, very fast. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

      Brilliant Movie

I had no idea as to what to expect. I didn't remember this in the theatres; Rainn's offerings (outside of the Office) have been average at best, and the story of the "average shmo turns super hero" have been done to death. I cannot tell you how wrong my apprehensions turned out to be. Not only is this not the average hero movie, but the performance by Rainn is amazing. He really shows a depth that I hadn't seen before, and the supporting cast of Liv Tyler, Kevin Bacon and Ellen Page works perfectly. The story is a rare mix of extremely comical at times, with down right heartbreaking at others. There are shocking moments (both plot wise and visually) and the story you think is about to unfold takes a completely left turn when you least expect it. I have recommended this movie to all of my friends and family, and actually am submitting this while I order copies for Christmas. I hate to talk up moies, knowing that the review is always a let down... but you HAVE to see this movie.

Much more than a dark, twisted, comedy.

This could have just been an independent dark comedy, but James Gunn had a bigger plan. A better reason to acquire the great actors this film requires. This film shows just what it would take for a man to don a superhero mask and fight crime, he can't just be bored, he has to be psychotic, deluded, and most importantly distraught. Frank D'Arbo is all of these, and Rainn Wilson plays the part flawlessly. There's more to this movie than just a man in a costume though, Frank is on a journey of self discovery, and as an audience, we are too. We are made to feel bad about glorifying violence, which is done by flipping between stylized violence and brutal, realistic violence. There are some tonal shifts, and by the end, no one is laughing, only asking themselves questions and hopefully, feeling content. SUPER is not for children, and I wouldn't recommend watching it with family. If you watch this film with anyone, make sure it's only your most mature friends.

This movie was great, I loved it (22yr old), my lil' bro & sis liked it, never got bored of the movie, it's exciting from start to finish.. All the actors were great, you can tell this was not some cheap movie, I just knew I had to have it.. It's Action and Comedy at the same time, what more can you ask for, I really recommend this movie for anyone who likes laughing and not getting sleepy as you watch movies.. Enjoy.. (:

Going into this movie, I really did not like Rainn Wilson but, after this movie it has all changed. He was great. This is not a super hero movie at all and that's ok. This movie left me feeling weird. I was not happy for the main character even thought the movie felt it was supossed to do that.

Funny and entertaining, then gets serious, graphically violent and ends up heartwarming. I love the irony and quirkiness of this movie and think it's brilliant, while it may be too "weird" for others to "get".

A troubled man decides to become a superhero. Great film, a more adult version of Kick A**, but much better. Great performances , great script, real emotion, just a wonderful film. Highly recommended.

This is the best of the "every man" super hero movies. A hilarious dark comedy that merits multiple viewings.
