Best sub-woofer for $500, hands down.

I'm relatively new to HT purchases, but i've already owned a Martin Logan Dynamo 700w and a 1000w for a few weeks each until I've had to return them both because they just weren't a fit for me. I'm EXTREMELY hard to please when it comes to audio. They were decent subs but to me, not worth the hefty price tags on each one. In-home consult manager told me about this sub and praised it for being the best bang for the buck. I figured it would be great at low volumes and have a ton of trouble when cranked up near reference, for that price. Right out of the box, without even having the sub broken-in, sounds better than the ML's I had previously after having been broke in for a couple weeks each. There are differences and I think ML is slightly better for music but my primary usage is for movies and big action sequences. Room is roughly 12x18 and this single sub fills it with plenty of kick right out of the box. I can only imagine what it will be like after about 20 hours of break-in.

I picked the SVS PB-1000 based on alot of research and reading through AVS Forums and the Reddit Hometheater page. This sub comes highly recommended and it really delivers! I don't think you will find another under 20Hz subwoofer anywhere else for this price. The PB-1000 is also well built and was easy to set up. The ported version is definitely more suited to TV and movies, but it still does very well with music. If you want tighter bass, I would suggest the SB-1000. Unless you are jumping up to the $1000 subwoofer range, you can't go wrong with this sub.

Probably an overkill for our little living room but boy... what a floorshaker. I thought I don't really need a sub because my front speakers can go as low as 38Hz, but there is a whole new world of experience below that. And this thing can go down to 19Hz! I don't think I could do any better for the money. They say ported subwoofers aren't that good for music listening, but if set up right, this one is awesome. I was watching Deadpool (that I've already seen) to test it, but I finished the whole movie. It's better sound than in a movie theater.

This is my first subwoofer for home use ever, and I'm very happy with my purchase. SVS has fantastic support and was very quick to answer a couple of basic questions that I had. Sound is excellent in my home theater and I can't believe I waited so long to buy one! Value is excellent for this unit as it is -very- reasonably priced, especially for everything you get in terms of quality. If I could change something, it would be to either move the connections to the side or change their positioning on the back by 90 degrees so that I could turn the sub sideways and have the cables hidden.

I like the sound for Music a lot, however I can't listen to any songs with heavy bass without this thing chuffing. The noise produced is loud enough to hear through the sound or the music or movie. This has the potential to be an amazing sub, especially for the price and size, but can't figure out why it's chuffing so bad.

I did a lot of research before buying this sub. For a comparable price, there are a few brands i was looking at including Polk and Klipsch. What i liked about this sub , is the low frequency range which you can really feel when playing a movie with heavy bass. very pleased with my purchase

anyone in need of a powered subwoofer at an attractive price, this is the one you want. Tight bass is delivered effortlessly. If you have a large room, buy the ported sub and a smaller room, buy the enclosed sub. Velodyne, this is your competition in this price range.

This is definitely a HT sub. Drops nice and low, great for movies. A little slow for HiFi music but not terrible. If you are 80% movies and 20% music, this is a great happy medium at a entry level price. Unbelievable volume for a entry level sub.
