Create professional audio to accompany your DSLR videos with this Tascam four-track recorder. The stereo microphone lets you record crisp vocal or environmental sound without additional equipment, and the compact design makes it easy to hide from view while filming. This Tascam four-track recorder has a preamplifier to ensure clean tracks with minimal distortion.

Two built-in omnidirectional mics: Allow easy recording of natural stereo sound without using external mics. Used in combination with one or two other mics, the DR-70D becomes a compact setup for recording interviews and ambient sound at the same time.
Four XLR/TRS combo jacks allow a variety of setups: The four-channel design enables combinations of shotgun microphones, lavaliere mics, and a built-in stereo mic to be recorded individually.
Dual recording mode: Can be used to create a backup file that is simultaneously recorded at a different level to prevent clipping when levels exceed the maximum input.
Built-in four-in/two-out mixer enables four-channel and stereo recording: Each of the four inputs is sent to a stereo mixer. This allows each input to be recorded individually for post production, while the stereo mix is sent to headphones and the camera guide track.
HDDA (High Definition Discrete Architecture) mic preamps: An NE5532 op-amp was selected for its outstanding effect on audio quality. Through a mix of discrete architecture and hand-picked components, Tascam has achieved an equivalent input noise level of -120 dBu.
Compact, rugged design can be attached above or below the camera: The bottom of the unit has tripod screw threads for mounting under your camera or on a follow focus cage. A removable camera attachment screw and hot shoe for the top of the unit are also included.
Camera out jack: A stereo mix of your audio is sent to the camera output for later synchronization in your editing software. Simply drop your audio and video into the multi-camera feature of most editing software, and audio will be automatically synced.
3.5mm stereo mini jack input: Allows the connection of consumer video camera mics. This unit can supply plug-in power to the microphone and has a maximum input level of +10 dBV.
Camera in jack for monitoring and playback: Enables playback from your camera to evaluate a take. Either the camera signal or DR-70D can be monitored through the headphones.

Excellent entry field recorder
I have been making short recordings for youtube and working in different environments which meant I needed something to handle audio that gave me more control and better quality that the camera's ability. I was using a directional mic fed into the M50 mirrorless camera, but the audio was always garbage. The DR-70D field recorder provided me with all of the flexibility I need for my small scale projects and the quality is awesome! I can utilize 4 different mics while providing some with phantom power and others without. The interface is simple to use (expecting you know something about audio) and the gain control on the front provides you with easy controls for each mic. The additional line out for headphones is great for monitoring the recording and making adjustments so I don't miss anything. I also really like being able to record the audio as either stereo by combining channels 1 / 2 and 3 / 4 or I can record each one as a mono channel and gain more control in post production. Powering the DR-70D: Although it can run off of 4x AA batteries, I run it entirely off of my usb travel charger. With a 25,000mA capacity, the battery requires charging if I use 4 mics on phantom power after about 40+ hours of recording. Without using phantom power, 40 hours of recording dropped the battery percentage by only 2%! I'm not a huge fan of running devices off regular batteries if I don't have to and the option to use an external battery was a requirement. Who is this recommended for? If you are just getting into recording, understand things like gain, peak, bitrates, XLR vs 3.5mm, phantom power, and such, this is a great entry level field recorder that provides great audio. If you don't know what any of those things are, this is NOT for you. If you have a small studio and want to have better audio than the camera's mic, or you use an external mic and would like to improve the overall audio quality, this is a great option. Finally, the built in stereo, omni-directional mics provide a great option for capturing ambient noises, or you can use them to capture the room noise and use that profile to help filter unwanted noises from the recording. Keep in mind, this recorder does NOT do the editing for you, it simply records the audio. You need to do the editing yourself in a program like Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, Blender, etc. While this will improve the overall recording quality, if your mic is not good, you can still get bad audio. Each piece of recording equipment should be designed to do what you need it to do! In other words, if you plug in a cheap mic, expect cheap sound. The DR-70D can only record what is sent to it.

Perfect to travel pocket version
I travel a lot with equipment without documentation and this works for me perfectly, not heavy and small
