Ahh, the memories, The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles hitting the big screen back in 1990. I was so excited to go see it. I thought it was a great movie at the time, and still enjoy watching from time to time. TMNT stars Judith Hoag as April O'Neal, Elias Koteas as Casey Jones, and Corey Feldmen as the voice of Donatello. The story takes place in New York, where a popular television reporter, April O'Neal, reports of recent rise in crime which she believes there is more to it then what the police department is saying. Of course, the people doing the crime want her to shut up. They are The Shredder and his group of ninjas called The Foot. During an attack by The Foot, April O'Neal is rescued by one of the turtles and taken to the turtles home. Soon Splinter, the turtles master, is kidnapped and they meet another ally, Casey Jones, who helps to rescue Splinter.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was released in 1990 and was a total sensation. The film makers took the material seriously and made a movie with deep thought. Four average turtles and one rat are turned humanoid after contacting a toxic ooze in the New York sewers. The rat was originally from Japan and is much older. He nurtures the turtles and begins to train them martial arts from his memory of watching his former owner practice the art of the ninja. They understand they would be considered "freaks" if exposed to the average human. They decide to remain underground and when there is crime or violence from above they use their defense skills to help those innocent in need. One of the victims they save is a female reporter who ends up giving her assistance to the turtles. Brilliant film and wonderful soundtrack and motion picture score! Highly recommended!

The new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles via Michael Bay is a franchise that has now officially died. It had some fun moments but in the end watching an all cgi group of ninja turtles, a wooden April O'Neill full of botox and a Shredder who started out decent in the first of the 2, was a complete joke in Out Of The Shadows. If you would like to see the definitive live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, this blu ray is the true champion. A combination of make up, and masterful puppetry orchestrated by the great Jim Henson coupled with a perfect supporting cast creates the perfect mix of humor and action. Now to have it on blu ray in hd at such a cheap price is a no brainer, it is a must own.

Usually when a movie is released in 4:3, it is just a cropped version of the 16:9 widescreen offical release, but the 4:3 version on the flip side of this double-sided DVD is actually an open-matte version that has more image on top and bottom, meaning that the widescreen version is actually a cropped version of the 4:3 copy. For that reason alone this is a significant release. There is no HD release available, so this DVD is the only available source released to the public. Get it before it goes out of print!

This was the first live-action ninja turtle film that hit theatres in 1990. It's a film about 4 turtles that are raised in a sewer by a rat as they are mutated and grow to be human sized. A big organized crime ring is hitting New York hard, a reporter investigates and gets caught up in a bad situation. The ninja turtles come out of the shadows and have to save her. This film was fantastic and really had a great atmosphere like the original comics. It was a bit dark for a kids film, but really stands up today with the dialogue, comedy, series tone, and stunt work. It's a shell of a good time.

My kids enjoyed this movie and when my daughter married, passed the movie on to her for her kids to enjoy, which they did on VHS. Now that have a great grandson, purchased it to have here for him to watch, as he spends time with us while granddaughter is at work. And like the 3 (includes myself) generations before him, he too, really enjoys this movie. So, at least in this household it has withstood the test of time, if it can please 4 generations of movie watchers.

When the complete TMNT series came out on blu-ray a few years ago I refused to buy it due to the abomination that is TMNT 3 (horrible movie). I'm very glad I held out. I must say, when I purchased this blu-ray for $4.99, I didn't expect the quality to be very good (and it didn't have to be for that price). However, I was pleasantly surprised...I think the transfer looks great. There really aren't any special features here, but again, for the price you can't complain.

The first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was definitely the best. Unfortunately, the protective parents of the world complained about how dark and violent the movie was, then we got all he garbage sequels that came after. Still, this movie was a strong beginning to the Turtles film franchise. Good action, good characters, and the dynamic of the relationships among the four was excellent. The character of Splinter was also very well done, as was Casey Jones.
