    Synopsis

    The Family Man
In this whimsical romantic comedy that recalls It's a Wonderful Life, Nicolas Cage plays Jack Campbell, a workaholic bachelor who gets to see what his life might have been like had he stayed with his old sweetheart, Kate (Tea Leoni). Thirteen years before, Jack accepted a brokerage internship that marred his relationship with Kate, under the promise that they would only be separated one year. But much later, Jack has become an urban Wall Street exec with no wife or family of his own, and a mysterious proxy (Don Cheadle) offers him the opportunity to step into the life he left behind. After falling asleep in his posh New York apartment, Jack awakens to find himself in bed with his now-wife Kate, daughter Annie (Makenzie Vega), and a new baby, none of which he has ever experienced in his fast-paced single life. After discovering his "real" life has been eliminated, he begrudgingly tries to fit in with his newly appointed life as a family man. The Family Man also stars Saul Rubinek and Jeremy Piven. ~ Jason Clark, Rovi

A new approach to the trading places theme

4 of 5 stars for the romance movie The Family Man. This is a variation on the trading places theme. Rich, high-power Wall Street business man (Nicolas Cage) runs into a street character (Don Cheadle) who causes Cage's character to have lived a different path in his life. Cage awakens to find a wife and kids where he was single before. The wife turns out to be an old girlfriend; so this is the life-path where he marries her. Hard to know if it was all a dream or not. No real explaination of how he got moved into this alternate life-path nor how he eventually returned to his original path. No explaination of Cheadle's "powers" or role in all of this. Nice relationship between Cage and his girlfriend/wife (Tea Leoni). Very believeable as a married couple with kids. A nicely made movie, good story, novel approach to the trading places theme. It is a fun and sweet movie worth watching.

This has been an annual Christmas tradition to view. Decided to buy the blu ray, but was surprised that it did not have the extended version that plays when televised on network broadcastings. It has the extra footage in the deleted scenes featurette, but as rough cut versions. 4 rating out of 5 for not having it as a final extended film.

Love both main characters in this sweet & funny movie. The beginning was pretty cool & the ending was even better. Both leading characters had great chemistry. I would watch this movie over & over again. Cozy up with a soft blanket & a bucket of buttered popcorn & really enjoy!

Heart warming story of redemption - learning that money can not buy true happiness although it sure beats eating every meal under a bridge. Tea Leone brings a passion to her role as a suburban house frau whose imaginary children and big dog capture the soul of Cage. Life has choices and consequences.

This is a really good movie. It's one of my childhood favorites. Don Cheadle is great as he is in many other movies...He's really under-appreciated. This movie is a real fantasy and in my mind it's somewhat like a Scrooge film without the typical narration. I watched it as a teenager on VHS, so I'm glad to have it as a part of my Blu-ray collection.

"The Family Man" is fun "modern" take on the Christmas what if scenario think "It's a Wonderful Life" or "A Christmas Carol." Nicolas Cage and Tea Leoni have great chemistry, the only part of this movie is the number of times Cage's character Jack Campbell learns his lesson only to screw up something which resets the narrative.

I added this movie to the usual fare (Elf, Christmas Vacation, etc.) for the holiday viewing. It's a good (not great) movie. I'm not a big fan of Nicholas Cage, but this is one of his better efforts. It's a little risque in a couple of scenes, but overall I would recommend it for kids 8 and up.

This is one of my all time favorite movies. It's about a corporate type who wakes up, married to the girl he was SUPPOSED to marry after college, but instead, chose the corporate life. SPOLIER: After watching this movie, tell me it would not have been MUCH better if Don Cheedle was driving the cab at the end!
